I've been getting services from this place since I was 12 years old, case management, psychiatry, therapy, and worked with my mom until I became 18 before it became individual. My overall experience was a lot.
Positives: I really loved my meetings with the therapist, then-case manager, and psychiatrist. I feel like I've made improvements when it comes to having healthier coping mechanisms, challenging my irrational thinking, attending fun events, giving me short-term relief through events and exploring local areas, recognizing my own needs, and allowing me to function better in social situations and communicate more effectively. The case manager was also very understanding when I made the decision to change from family to be individualized when I became 18 due to my mom's negative reaction and how, despite what she says to them, she has shown no interest or drive in applying her advice.
I also appreciate the psychiatrist being able to contact my insurance company when they initially denied my prescription despite providing me with psychiatry in the past. She was very attentive, aware of my background, and a pleasure to speak with. She and the first case manager were the most understanding of my side, feelings, and culture.
They were very understanding when I communicated concerns that will be mentioned in the negatives section and are currently helping me find services to transfer to.
Negatives: A few months ago, I was unexpectedly switched from my then-case manager to someone completely different. Personally, I have not been able to feel any sort of connection with her. The sessions are substantially shorter than with the first (10–15 minutes VS an hour), and when I try to tell her something, she asks me if I told someone else, what they said, and whether she agrees with them or not. I feel like I can't tell her much, and that the few times we have, nothing gets done. She was also the biggest offender of the main reason I decided to make the decision to discontinue all services:
I'm now 20 going on 21, and I felt like, while I made improvements on other aspects of my life, I've never been able to fully process my deep-rooted trauma and my strained relationship with my mom. When my services revolved around both myself and my mom, my mom was highly unresponsive to the feedback given by the case manager and multiple arguments were sprouted as a result. There were several times when I felt my mom wasn't being fully honest to these people, yet I'd constantly feel like I was at fault. Even when it has been shifted to individual treatment, I felt extremely uncomfortable sharing it, as there were a few sessions when I felt that my feelings weren't fully listened to and that my mom's input and influence likely made them biased. Even after they all reassured me, they've kept asking me if they could get my mom's side, which I would refuse each time, and many of these discussions. I do recognize this is a circumstance outside the workers' control, and I'm deeply saddened about how much of an effect it had on my experience.
FSL, thank you for all the positive change you managed to give me for so many years. I'm just really sad to know that I now have to look elsewhere for my own well-being, but I hope you all do well!

An amazing group of individuals helping those of us who not only want or need help, but are there helping us work through not only our addictions but emotions. 10 out of 10 Would recommend if you’re in need… pretty much anything that will make you feel better about yourself by helping you… understand yourself. I have no insurance and they have done absolutely nothing more than help me and be there for me. Please if you feel you need some help, give them a call. It’s worth it.

Ms. Jacqueline Lovell,
How do I truly thank you? How do I show my appreciation for helping me regain focus during one of the hardest seasons of my life?
Ms. Jacqui is truly one of a kind. When I say she helped me, I mean it with my whole heart. Some of my struggles have been deeper than what most people could understand, yet she handled them with patience, compassion, and strength.
Ms. Jacqui helped me trust again. She helped me hope again. She helped me feel comfortable going out in public again. She helped me open up in ways that not even my own mother could get me to.
She is a phenomenal woman with a heart of rare gold. I love Ms. Jacqui so very much, and I am beyond grateful for her guidance, her kindness, and her belief in me.
At this point she is overqualified — send her to the moon and back! Thank you for being such an extraordinary person in my life.

So, I didn’t know they had specialty clinics (but they do), and I had an appointment on the 3rd floor which was the gynecology and childbirth/labor department. Now, as a dude, I was like, “am I even in the right place?” But there was a really kind lady, I wish I had gotten her name (and I think she was a nurse in the gynecology department) who directed me to my clinic after asking her peers and I appreciate that all the staff were very helpful and willing to take time out of what they were doing to help a lost fella like me.
Now, regarding parking, there is valet parking and there is paid* parking across the street. I think it’s paid for visitors but free for patients (I didn’t have to pay for parking). You drive in and you get a ticket, similar to some shopping centers. Pricing varies depending on how long you stay but and there are license plate scanners so they know your every movement. I think the lowest tier is 30 minutes - 1 hour for $6.
Walking in, the first thing I noticed is how much nicer the hospital has gotten. I was a patient back in 2011 (when I was 4) and while I do believe the doctors and nurses were a hundred times more caring back then, I do think they are still caring about their patients now.
The biggest thing I would change about this hospital are first impressions - let me clarify.
There were two young black girls at the counter when you walk in (one of them managed the line for patients, the other one managed a separate line for visitors). I was waking in as a patient. The young girl that was going to check me in seemed annoyed that I took a tad bit longer to pull out my drivers license, since all patients and visitors need to have their ID’s scanned (varies by age). Why have people that seem angry at people walking in for care?
Needless to say, my doctors were all chill and helpful.
That said, the day-to-day experience can be inconsistent. Wait times—especially in the ER—can be very long, sometimes hours, and communication isn’t always clear. Some patients report feeling overlooked or having difficulty getting updates during their stay.
One thing that stands out about this hospital is its accommodation for Jewish patients, which is important given the large Jewish community in the area. The hospital is generally Sabbath-friendly, with features such as:
- Shabbat elevators (automatic operation, no button pressing)
- Availability of kosher, halal, vegan, blah blah blah food options upon request
Sensitivity to religious observances, including modesty and scheduling when possible
However, like many big institutions, the hospital can feel overcrowded and impersonal at times.
But, despite the negatives, I think this hospital is better than LIJ a few blocks down.

Respectfully, anybody who leaves a bad review did not do what they were supposed to. If you genuinely need help, this is the best place to go for community and self accountability. The woman in charge may be a lot, but she has to be and genuinely cares. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. The staff is amazing and they will help you. Just don’t try to fool them. You either get better or you don’t. It’s up to you. These people will support you if you genuinely try and will continue to until you’re better. Never trust an active addicts review.
