The Dunes made such a positive difference for me. Devon, the clinical director, provided me with incredible support and guidance every step of the way. She truly goes above and beyond, and her care made a huge impact on my journey. Her entire team is amazing as well, always kind, compassionate, and ready to help. Marisa in admissions was wonderful. She made the whole admission process smooth and comfortable and helped me feel completely at ease. The nursing team is also incredible, some of the most caring, compassionate people I’ve ever met. I can’t recommend this facility enough.

Whether you are a 1st time treatment/detox seeker or have relapsed and are searching for a new facility, this is your place. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond for the patients. This was my one and hopefully only experience, but I am incredibly grateful that I chose Retreat (New Haven). My therapist was PHENOMENAL! If you are willing to do the work, commit to yourself that YOU are worth the time & energy needed that it takes to truly recover, and remain sober then I highly recommend you give Retreat a try. It is a welcoming community and hopefully you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was about the services available, especially if you are a first responder or an active duty/veteran service member.

Had surgery here. The surgeon & surgical staff were AWESOME. When they put me back in the recovery room in the operation waiting area I found out later I had to stay overnight because I was unable to do the steps for physical therapy. I waited a while for them to give me a room. The only thing I had were 2 slices of cinnamon raisin bread, a couple small cups of coffee & sipped on apple juice all day. I got no lunch & no dinner. As it was approaching dinner time I asked them for something to eat since I haven't eaten all day. The nurses at the station said that I will be in a room soon & that the girls will take care of me there. My husband went to go buy himself dinner & told them he was buying me one because the cafeteria was closing soon. The nurses still told him the girls will take care of me upstairs. Its been almost an hour & a half or 2 hours & I haven't gotten to that room yet & no dinner. I asked again for dinner & they said oh, the cafeteria is closed. But the girls will take care of you upstairs. I finally got into a room up stairs & no one took care of me for dinner. I asked them for dinner they said the cafeteria is closed. I told them I was promised dinner & my husband offered to buy one for me & they blew me off & now these nurses blew me off. This time, I had to BEG them for food, 3 times !!!! I should not have to beg anyone there to eat. They are professionals? They should have ordered my lunch & dinner not me beg for it. They finally gave a prewrapped sandwich with pretzels. At least it was something. I had to ask them for a pillow & the nurse huffed & said she had to hunt one down, they have me no blanket just a flat sheet & they had th AC running, no heat. Later on, I rang the bell a few times for a few different things & the last time I rang a nurse came & he was COCKY & RUDE. I told him that the compressor around my right leg wasn't working. He gave attitude & said it says its working. I told him but its not compressing. He got annoyed turned the machine on & off lifted up the tubes & dropped it on the bed then asked me if there was anything else I needed before I rang the bell again in 5 minutes. I cried myself to sleep & afraid to ask for anything else. I didnt even know if I was going to get breakfast. When i got breakfast it 2 tiny pancakes & a tiny scrambled egg. The cafeteria woman sounded atutidish over the phone & was very rude. I NEVER had ANY hospital treat me this bad. Don't reply to me that you're sorry for my bad experience, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !!! You have enough people on here complaining about the hospitality from the nurses. Sounds to me like the complaints are being neglected. Correct the problem !!!!

The place has changed drastically (for the better) since APT took it over. Parole and Probation would not allow people to come here otherwise. Lots of Food, amenities, an outside smoking area, gym, cell phones allowed, Good staff etc etc. There's now full fencing with locked gates around the facility. It's amazing what there funding has done to the place now that new management is NOT stealing it. Which was the case yrs ago when it was called "Crossroads". If your new to the logistics of getting in here then ask ask ask questions. They don't freely tell you much of anything without asking. Possibly due to the high number of return clients. That's the only reason for 4 not 5 stars IMO.

I've been working with Michelle for many years now and I have no complaints. She was always available and my prescriptions were sent in quickly. She spends the time to talk to you about the prescriptions, if they are working or not, or if you want to switch any. She has a discussion with you in detail and had even offered me samples before to check out a new medication I was interested in. Since Covid, I don't even have to go to their office, it's all virtual.

I’ve been seeing Michele, my Psych APRN, for six years. I was honestly shocked to see low ratings online, as I believe they stem from past staffing issues and not a reflection of Michele herself. When I first started with Michele, I was a newly single mom, early in sobriety, and had just returned to my home state. I'd never been able to maintain sobriety or stick with a consistent, competent provider before. Michele changed that. As a mental health professional myself, I appreciate her understanding of the challenges I face. She respects that I know what works for me and never talks down or assumes a power dynamic. That mutual respect is rare and refreshing. She has consistently been there when I needed her—offering short-notice appointments, guiding me through medication changes, and sharing insight based on patient experiences. She provides helpful context on what to expect from medications and offers samples when insurance delays occur. Michele stays on top of refills—something that’s been a major issue with other providers I’ve had in the past. She knows how critical it is to not miss doses and ensures her patients don’t have to go without. Beyond medications, she offers thoughtful, holistic guidance—encouraging good sleep, nutrition, therapy, and attention to one's environment, all of which impact mental health. She sees the whole person, not just the diagnosis, and her approach reflects deep empathy and understanding. Michele recently moved into a new, calm, and bright office space, which she now shares with a small, stable team. The environment is private, peaceful, and easily accessible—but what matters most to me is that Michele herself is accessible. I don’t have to go through multiple layers of staff just to get help. That direct connection is invaluable. Over the years, she’s supported me through one of the hardest times of my life—emotionally, physically, and mentally. She never dismisses my concerns and always offers encouragement, especially on tough days when I’m doubting myself as a mom or struggling with chronic health issues. She reminds me that I’m doing my best and that things will get better. I’m especially grateful for her flexibility—offering telehealth when getting to the office is tough and allowing me to bring my child when needed. As a solo mom, that level of understanding makes a world of difference. Her support has helped me stay sober and emotionally stable—something I never thought was possible before working with her. Michele is the first provider I’ve had who is consistent, present, and reliable year after year. I genuinely hope she continues practicing for a long time because having someone like her in your corner—especially when managing recovery, chronic illness, and mental health—is rare and incredibly valuable. Thank you, Michele, for everything you’ve done and continue to do. I am truly grateful.
