She made sure that I had the right resources and she was always available when I needed. Her group was great but the individual therapy that I had with her was even more meaningful and really helped me open my eyes to the problems that I have and that I’ve continued to get over. I have no bad reports. They are usually really overwhelmed with patients and so you have to stay on top of your appointments or you will fall behind as it will take them a while to get you back in the scheduled, that is the only problem I have ever ran into with them. I would say they probably need more employees to cover the demand. The thing is they are a state funded organization so good luck with that. You will be respected, heard, and treated with dignity. You won't be dismissed, all your questions will be answered. Be completely honest so that you can receive the exact care that you need. You could not ask for better accomodations or understanding. The environment is immediately welcoming. Its quiet, peaceful. They have everything you need, you really just need clothing. (Its a bit chilly, bring hoodies and fuzzy socks) There are even laundry facilities. You will be provided with a vape or nicotine patches if you use nicotine products. You may rest as much as you need, the staff will let you sleep through the night, vitals are during the day. You can call your family, except for during group meetings. No visitors, but the stay is short. The counselors and peer support specialists are very honest, open, and eager to help you with your personal journey, without being pushy or making you feel rushed. Whether faith based or evidence based care is right for you, that is your choice. There are options for both approaches! The idea of group meetings was terrifying for me, an introvert, an addict full of shame and guilt. You are not obligated to contribute, that was reassuring. But I was surprised at myself for wanting to contribute and engage. It was a bit sad leaving. While here, I was not just a junkie, just an alcoholic, a lost cause, all of the negative adjectives I used to describe myself. I wasn't the things my family called me. I wasn't an echo of the childhood I lost. I wasn't an empty, lonely vessel on autopilot. I was a person. A human. Im more than my story, but sharing our perspectives and caring for each other felt like being part of a family. A family where you aren't the black sheep. It was almost overwhelming to feel that kind of support and HOPE. Ill be honest; When I came in, i wasn't ready to get help. The timing was just right. But very quickly that changed. They made me want to be better. Not for recognition or pats on the back. Not for attention or brownie points. They made me want it because they made me see I deserve it, I deserve to live a good life and be happy. If you are thinking about making some changes, please come here. What do you have to lose? The Therapist’s that you meet one on one with were terrible until my next to the last day, where I finally met my assigned therapist, and she was great. The physicians, PAs, and the nursing staff were outstanding, which is why they got a four out of five rating overall instead of a three. I injured my foot during activities therapy when I fell, That night I notified to 2 of the tech’s And the Charge nurse. The day after that, I notified the nursing staff( 3 total) Again and nothing was done or said. I even told them that I just wanted it documented at the least. Finally, on the third day there was a different Charge nurse, and I told her and she immediately assessed my foot, took pictures, alerted the doctor and ordered an x-ray. It took almost 36 hours for me to get the x-ray despite the nurse ordering it. STAT. After eight days, I was finally discharged and the swelling in my foot never once improved. The food is disgusting, I lived off of sandwiches and the salad bar for the 12 days that I was there. the cleanliness is terrible, it took over a week for them to clean my bathroom, My room was never vacuumed, and I rarely saw any of the housekeeping staff sweep. This of course it’s not the housekeeping fault, but the fact that they only had two housekeepers for the entire facility while I was there. The difference in Mcleod and otherr clincs is Mcleod is really set up to help you succeed. If you come to people as people and treat the staff with respect and understanding, they will do the same for you. I have dosed at the other clinic in Gastonia before I came to Mcleod and I prefer Mcleod 100 percent. Staff really does care here about your life and your recovery. Abby is wonderful and will do whatever she can to help you if you have a problem, the nurses are all nice and polite, the front desk ladies are always friendly and smiling (even at 5 am), my counselor is great, and the peer support staff (Karen) is wonderful as well. So like the other review said, " you get what you put in,." If you want to have a better quality of life and become and maintain your soberity, go to Mcleod, they have everything there to help you get where you need. But what I can say, is this, There is a counselor named Keith if you were a seasoned addict and you need genuine counselor, I want you to request Keith. This man has been in my life for 10 years, and as I came back-and-forth between clinics, he always became my counselor again. Never judgmental, Always always rational and you can’t help but to put a smile on your face when you’re around him his aura, It is purple. And I’m telling you right now he is a blessing to this place. The program director is also a counselor that has been there for a while and moved her way up. She is also fair and a sweetheart tells me to have a good morning every day. The financial person that does insurance she will work with you as long as you are doing for yourself and trying to make a better way for yourself they will help you.
