It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a case number. I’m thinking of continuing sessions even after my required ones are done just so I can have that freedom of no judgment or anything when it comes to talking about personal life and feelings. For the people that walk into this place and already have their minds made up about what it’s going to be, of course it’s not going to be good. For those that come into the process with an open mind and positive attitude, I don’t see how this can’t be helpful. After years of intense trauma therapy with little progress, I had reached such a low point that our fire department’s mental health team recommended I come to Utah. When I agreed, I had no idea how I was going to get through six weeks of residential treatment—and by week three, I wasn’t sure there would be enough time. Clinicians and admissions worked together to ensure I could continue the work we started with their PHP and IOP programs, which I feel were crucial. After years of struggling with pain and confusion of trauma, on and off the job, they were able to listen, hold space and help me begin to understand, heal and grow. Deer Hollow takes a truly holistic approach to wellness, incorporating nutrition support, physical exercise, yoga, and community service alongside group and individual therapy. The structured, intensive schedule helped me build a routine that I still follow today. While it was long and difficult it will prove to be very much worth it in the long run. The entire staff is incredible. The CEO, house manager, Dr., therapists and the entire support staff genuinely care about your wellbeing and treat you with understanding, love and respect. It may not be the fanciest facility but it's clean, peaceful and full of positivity. I've been to "luxury" rehab facilities in the past and I'll take Pathways staff and care over the "luxury" any day. If you truly want to get well and are willing to do the work I highly recommend Pathways to start your journey towards recovery. I had no hope or motivation to live anymore, but after my family convinced me, I decided to give it one last try. It is difficult to express how special this program is. Especially for those who really want life to get better. Their approach is unique, focusing on the specific issues underlying maladaptive behaviors and aiming to heal what makes people want to turn to substances or self-destructive behavior. I am alive today and actively pursuing a future because of the amazing, supportive staff at Pathways. I have experienced more positive, effective progress in the 2+ years I’ve been working with Tina than I experienced in the previous decade of therapy. Her patience, acceptance, and real/relatable nature has given me the space to make healthier decisions and the support to face difficult truths. Michael Ryan is an incredible recovery specialist who cares enough to be direct and honest and knows how denial can derail recovery. Yoga Chelsey has a wealth of knowledge and genuine desire to see clients heal. Doc Sellers was fantastic and encouraged me to keep trying when facing medication-related concerns and issues. Honestly, there are too many amazing people, both Clinical and Support staff, to specifically name them all. No program is perfect. There is a lack of attention given to teaching a variety of healthy coping skills, especially for a program that treats disorders which typically involve emotional dysregulation and trauma. Client dynamics can be a mixed bag and even professionals sometimes make mistakes. However, everyone is passionate about helping clients turn their lives around. Pathways is a special community and offers so many options to fit individuals’ lives. If you are willing to do the work, they are willing to walk with you through it. Its hard to get sober as it is and the hospitality they showed me was impeccable. The nurses were very kind and took care of me better than the nurses in the hospitals ever did. Very nurturing. I cant say the same for the after care though...it wasn't horrible, but my experience just wasn't great. I could care less about the staff there as well. I don't recommend Chatham or w.e their sober living is called. Otherwise their rehab, 10/10 all around amazing! Highly recommend. Just follow the rules. I know its easier said than done. Recovery Ways at Brunswick was equipped with staff that has experience and multiple tools to assist in the recovery process. The step down progression and support is second to none. Was a very good break from the stresses of my life. A clean break from the substance abuse. Food was good. Staff was excellent. Fun activities in a beautiful setting. I walked in there a total shaking wreck, heavily dependent on alcohol and in the process of dying, with undiagnosed and untreated mental health issues that led to my drinking. I spent 4 days in detox, getting my physical health back and decided to spend 28 days in residential treatment there. The staff were all experienced, and many of them have been in successful recovery themselves. The treatment I received there was compassionate and effective. I learned things about myself that I had been hiding from my whole life. I was able to heal old traumas and evolve into the person I want to be, rather than the person I accidentally became. I also had FUN and connected with people that will probably be lifelong friends, After residential treatment I went into their Partial Hospitalization Program and continued to receive education and help in building healthy thoughts and habits. I learned to respond to life, rather than reacting to it. My anxiety and depression melted away, layer by layer as I turned into a more effective and happy version of myself. Today I am 4 months sober, but I've learned that sobriety is just a side-effect of living the life that I choose. I do not believe that I could have done this without the wonderful humans at Recovery Ways, and all the care and love (and FUN) they shared with me. Highly recommended. And don't listen to the talk about the food. My nutritional skills also improved as a result of living there for 60 days. It may not be Club-Med, but that's not the purpose of being there. (They serve a salsa there that is better than I have ever had anywhere else.) David Lang 8 months ago I voluntarily admitted myself to Recovery Ways in September 2023. When I was calling about admissions I was staying in the behavioral unit of St. Marks Hospital, and Recovery Ways made accommodations for one of their team members to pick me up straight from the hospital. In-take was very fast. The staff at Recovery Ways Residential Care (Copper Hills) were very nice and friendly. They were able to make professional connections to each client, including myself. Although they weren't qualified to make treatment plans, diagnosis etc. they offered to have 1:1 discussions with clients if they weren't able to speak to a therapist on-site or on-call. For me, the situation wasn't as dire, or needed medical intervention, but they still talked to me about a struggle I was going through with my family. The occupational therapists are very sweet and insightful. Yes, they do help clients shop for nicotine, or do smoking supply runs every week. But, when I was at Recovery Ways (copper hills) it was clear to me that they weren't going to associate themselves with forcing clients/patients to adhere to strict guidelines but rather held us accountable for our actions. For instance, I was told by therapists and staff members that it is my choice if I want to pick up smoking, but they advised strongly to clients/patients to do their best to not pick up smoking habits as it will stunt our overall recovery from other substances or make it harder to receive successful treatment. The other residents/clients who smoked would also tell me to not start smoking or vaping. My therapist did have me go over my past trauma with her, but it was so she could have a better understanding of my case. The Med Technician who administered my prescriptions to me helped advocate for me to my psychiatrist appointed by Recovery Ways about having ongoing PTSD related night terrors. Because of him, I was able to be put on a sleeping pill and another medication that helps with PTSD night terrors. I went into Recovery Ways experiencing suicidal ideation (and having recently attempted), urges to self-harm, mania and lots of other symptoms/diagnoses. But, at the end of my treatment (after moving to Brunswick) I was able to recover successfully. Two years later and my GAD is in remission, my psychotic symptoms that was diagnosed alongside my Bipolar 1 Disorder is no longer affecting me. I have also stayed with their recommended psychiatrist when I was being discharged from Recovery Ways. And their excursions for physical activity/occupational therapy activities were kind of like surprises but they still gave us a few minutes to get dressed for the activities. Overall, my experience was amazing and every staff in each Recover Ways building were very helpful. I don't know if the chef at Brunswick is still working there, but in 2023 he was an amazing cook and made sure each meal he made satisfied the residents/clients. She was originally assigned to Ty who we liked but then she was moved to her life changing therapist, Jonathan. He was able to connect with her at her level. When she came in she had a rough exterior and her every thing she did she looked for the easiest thing that she could self harm with. Jonathan was able to get on her level and worked with her like nobody ever has. He didn't judge her, he led her with compassion. The family sessions were amazing as well. When it felt like we were getting no where, bam another break through. I also felt that the parent days were eye opening and allowed us as parents to connect and see that we were not alone. There were teachable moments, fun moments, and oh there were moments where I bawled. My daughter, Liz, still talks about so much of the staff that truly made an impact. It was the first place that our daughter made progress after a combination of other placements -residential and hospitals and thus it gets a good rating. I will highlight the strengths and also some concerns , which prevent a 5 star. Our child's therapist, Melissa was incredible - she is experienced, compassionate, and an excellent communicator who always had our daughter's best interests in mind and was always willing to advocate for her. It is clear how deeply she cares and she is REALLY skilled. The financial office did well while navigating the insurance company side of things. There was a thoughtful discharge plan put in place that allowed our daughter to transition safely, first to day treatment, and then all the way home. The continuity of therapist was maintained, which is really crucial. The staff seemed largely to be very compassionate and our daughter spoke positively of most of them. A few of them really went above and beyond to support our daughter when she was really struggling and they never gave up on her. The parent support group was helpful for me and better than others I've been to. Now. a few troubling things: Brighton, the most "secure"of the 4 houses, was extraordinarily chaotic and not a therapeutic environment. It was way too much chaos for kids like my daughter who get stressed when overstimulated. When there, it was hard for our daughter to get to make her (required by law) confidential calls and often had to wait unreasonably long to use the bathroom especially when menstruating due to insufficient staff. Despite it being the most secure, our daughter AWOL'd (while other students,unrelatedly,caused chaos), and nobody knew where she was for HOURS. It was terrifying and should not have happened. Finally During "Parent Days", an adult relative of another student, clearly was looking to start physical conflict with another adult relative of the same child during a group session. Fortunately, no children got hurt but some were seemingly pretty traumatized. It is fortunate that neither adult brandished a gun, given that they do not check visitors for weapons. I suggested that they start to do so, and it doesn't sound like they plan to. Regardless, this could have turned out badly and this person should not have been present in the first place. All in all, we are so glad that our EC recommended Youth Care. They took great care of our daughter and we are so thrilled she's doing better and owe a ton of gratitude to Melissa and the staff. The most important part of this review is how effective her treatment was. They DO need to fix some things though to prevent what could result in tragic outcomes. Despite the issues, which seem to exist everywhere, I would still highly recommend Youth Care (but good to know what to watch out for and ask about). Brian 3 months ago Our daughter (now 17) Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, BPD, spent the last 10 months @ YC and had a very positive experience. She made a ton of progress over her time there. The staff were professional and responsive. Our daughter had aggression issues and was non-compliant with treatment and school at the start of her stay. They paired her with an excellent therapist, and she was able to make tremendous progress. We spent our first 5 months constantly wondering when the "other shoe would drop", and it always did, trust me. But over time, she progressed, and soon the environment became a bit too restrictive for her, but her behavior needed to improve in order for her to move to a step-down program. YC recently revamped their treatment program moving to more of a tiered system, whereas before, all kids (no matter their behavior) were grouped into the same houses. Now, they have 3 tiers of houses. One house is reserved for kids that need the most restrictive environment, and basic behavior expectations are required to move to the next level of house(s). Two houses are the middle tier, where there are higher behavioral expectations and thus less restrictive. Finally, there is the top tier house, which has the highest level of expectation, and therefore the least restrictive. Our daughter spent her last month or so in the top tier house, and she reported it as boring and uneventful, as kids behaved well. Their parent support group is weekly, and they have one specific for SUD, and the other for non-SUD (they run back-to-back). The support groups are for both parents with kids in treatment @ YC, and for those with kids that have discharged from YC. Parent days @ YC are well run and informative. They are very emotionally exhausting (in a good way) and both my wife and I found them to be very beneficial. We were very worried about sending our daughter to any residential treatment facility, and honestly, we waited too long to send her, however; here we are moving to La Europa Academy on 4/1/26. I self admitted to focus on working through a history of trauma, shame, and problematic sexual behavior. James Raburn was my therapist, and although I was unsure of our compatibility at first, he exceeded expectations and really helped me get the care I needed. We practiced EMDR, individual talk sessions, Couples betrayal therapy, as well as moving through the program each day which included multiple group sessions with the fellow residents, various 12-step meetings, and personal assignments. If you are thinking of giving this program a try, I would highly encourage it. It will require you to surrender what you think your recovery “needs” to look like, and really show up and challenge yourself and behavior in ways you haven’t. Some moments are frustrating - on weekends there are no therapists or professionals in house and you are under the care of a “tech” who is often younger than you. It requires humility, patience, and self determination to change and accept the flow of the program. But because of this place, I’ve seen incredible results in my wellbeing, self image, and emotional coping skills, as well as in the recovery of my relationship since graduating and I am grateful to the resident therapists - James, Jeremy, all the staff who helped make my recovery possible. I loved spending time with the horses it always helped put me in a good mood. Jeremy was my therapist he was amazing. James was another therapist he always made groups interesting with his humor. Also an excellent therapist. I wish that we could have rode the horses, they were helpful to have either way. One thing I would like to recommend is a Chef. Our diets were left up to the residents to cook and they were not always the healthiest. They were none the less amazing and I would go there again if ever needed and I would highly recommend them as well. I've also found that my therapist and my psychiatrist say that I am not on the higher spectrum of depression anymore and I no longer have to be on an antidepressant. I did find out that my anxiety still is an issue but it's not as relevantly in my life as it once was. So anybody out there just wanting some relief and willing to do the work that is required for TMS and the commitment that it requires as well, I highly recommend this for you. I couldn't be happier with my results and as a result of it my quality of life has gone up and my relationships are way better than they used to be. I only wish I had found the sooner but sometimes things come into our lives when they're supposed to and I couldn't be happier. If you want to keep getting high, go to the one that rhymes with fart. These guys know their stuff, understand addiction, and will work with you to get you sober. If you want a clinic that doesn't care and will let you do what you want, this isn't the place. I had an experience where they showed me this first hand. The level on one of my tests was out of whack, so they started doing my dose do make sure all was well. Once things were sstraightened or, the stabilized me for the first time ever. Now I'm good without dope. 5 years at fart and nothing, I come here and within a month, I'm stable. This is unlike any other clinic I've been to. I love this place and & the people. Unfortunately, Jerry, who was the owner, had to sell. I met the new owner & he seemed very nice but omg the new systems they're implementing are just so awful & annoying & frustrating. Before we would come in & Susan, the receptionist, who is so sweet, kind, smart, & efficient, would get us checked in & we could literally be in & out in like 3 minutes for real. Now they make u check in on a tablet & there's a TV where they put your # when you're allowed to go back & see Jeff, (the one who gives u your dose). I hate it for a couple reasons, #1- it slows things down A LOT!!! There is always a wait now & it is no longer in & out. #2- it makes u feel like your at the DMV! Waiting for your # to be called, you're not a person, you're a # & it feels so clinical & impersonal. Now one of the things I do like & really appreciate that they've done is if u miss your counseling apt they give u a week to do a group & if u do u don't have to pay a fine. Which I really appreciate. Last Monday the while morning was going awful & all these things came up & I totally spaced & felt so bad about missing my apt but am so grateful I am able to make it up! I'm also grateful Jerry is still there & I still have him as my counselor, he is a wonderful person who u can tell really cares about everyone & never judges. & I'm also so glad Susan is there & Jeff. Jeff is the nurse who gives u your dose, who is also one of my favorite people there. He is so kind, efficient & I love coming every day & getting to see Susan & Jeff cuz they're such wonderful people & I hope they never leave!!! Diane is another staff member who has been there for years & is such an amazing person. As a matter of fact, all the staff there is amazing & I'm grateful to have such wonderful people to be there & support me in my recovery journey. So even though I really don't like the new system (& talking to others, everyone else hates it too & were kind of hoping they'll do away with it after a while when they see how much it slows things down) I will still continue with, I guess it's called True North now because of the people there. Since he manages medications rather than providing therapy, I expected a quick visit focused primarily on prescriptions. Instead, David took the time to get to know me, listen to my history, and understand everything that has been going on in my life before discussing any treatment options. For the first time, I truly felt heard. Rather than simply prescribing medications based on my symptoms, he wanted to understand me as a whole person. His compassion, patience, and willingness to listen made me feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for. I left my appointment feeling hopeful and confident that my care will be based on what is actually best for me, not just on prescribing medication. At the beginning of my treatment I was suicidal, apathetic, and rating my depression severity as a 9/10. I went through IOP and PHP and by the end (5 months later) I was happier than I'd ever been, reporting no suicidal ideation and rating my depression severity as a 1/10. Of course - it required self-discipline and hard work on my part, but I couldn't have done it without the amazing staff at the Phoenix.
