I came here needing a real change and that's what I got. The program is definitely tough but sometimes that's what you need to break old habits. It’s pretty structured, with a lot of discipline and no shortcuts allowed. What really stood out to me was how much they lean on the Bible and its teachings. It’s a big part of the healing here. I do wish I’d had a little more access to my kids or family during the program, but I get that they want you to stay focused on the program. It’s definitely not fancy but it’s a genuine place and they really help you. I’m grateful for the help I got to get started in recovery.

One word—AMAZING. I have been in and out of various drug treatment centers since my first overdose when I was twenty. I don’t know To get clean this time because I really wanted it, or I knew if I didn’t succeed this time, death had his hand above my neck. But God bless Amanda. She was my savior and did everything she could to help me, and I actually looked forward to seeing her after a while. Every session, she said something that was so profound to me, something I had never thought of before, or in that way, and that pertained to me. Amanda is a MIRACLE WORKER!!! I gave myself one month from by first meeting with her, and if things haven’t changed, I was going to kill myself (after a few suicide attempts, I had figured out a fool-proof plan.) Obviously, I never had to do it, and am the best place (spiritual and emotionally) I have been in a while!
Also, for anyone serious, I recommend staying a little longer than the program states.

I struggled with addiction and alcoholism for more than half of my life and have been to the point of no return it seemed. They really helped me to learn to control my emotions and cope with my triggers. The staff is awesome and very helpful as well as the counselors! This place is like everywhere else in the sense that if you don't want help, you're going to fail! So don't come here if you can't commit to helping yourself. I recommend this place to anyone who is serious about getting help! 5 stars from me!

This is a really good place if you are serious about wanting to recover. There is a lot of freedom In this program seeings you can leave everyday to work so I would say that this is not the best choice of program if you are coming straight off of the drugs you should pry go to a higher level of care first then here. When your on campus it is pretty structured not a lot of free time they definitely don’t just want your money as others have said they Hardily take anything that compare to the services and food and shelter they provide speaking of witch there is an amazing cook there Mike he prepares all the food which is of 5 star quality a lot of variety and always good. Staff really cares for you here they want to see you succeed really it all depends on what attitude you bring to the table that determines how sussceful and good your stay here will be. Thank you to all the staff for everything y’all do.

The Avalon Center staff have been an immense help in navigating my road to better mental health. I was diagnosed with bipolar I disorder last year and these folks have done everything they can to give me the best care possible. I was without insurance for months and they were able to help me apply for patient assistance so that I could get my necessary monthly injection that was prohibitively expensive without insurance. My provider and case manager are both amazing. The staff up front as well. I couldn't be happier with my choice to go with the Avalon Center during this difficult time in my life.

Excellent service when applied via therapy. Workers come and go due to the current times and economy which is understandable. Very detailed and empathetic individuals who look after those in need. Primarily treat the root issues of trauma that others overlook. My only recommendation would that helped me in the military are therapy dogs.

I heard a lot of horror stories and when I found out my son was being transferred there a lot of folks had negative things to say that placed a lot of fear in me !! The staff there was really helpful and pleasant they showed cared and compassion that is so hard to find now days ! When I went for my first visit with him today I was not sure how things worked so I came to the main entrance of hospital like I was instructed by my son to do ! Once there the second shift ladies who worked the front desk were very friendly and helpful walking me through visitation step by step ! I was nervous and had not seen my son in over year so a lot of anxiety coming in to visit for first time in such a long time ! The officer whitehead and the front desk ladies that were there to assist me was very understanding ,as well as patient with me ! This brought me a lot of comfort and relief in my option they are the type of individuals anyone would want to be taking care of a loved one ! Friendly and helpful and they made my visit the best possible for me and my son ! So if u have a loved one going for care or treatment at this hospital don’t believe the bad reviews or be so quick to judge go see for urself I am sure u will be amazed at what u find ! I went to Bryce in 2002-2004 I hated the place when I was there I was sent there for extreme PTSD. However I had went to 30+ places similar this was the final place the staff was great and they helped me overcome a psychotic breakdown. In one of the reviews some one said they were the youngest there is a minor ward I was only 14 but I wasn't the youngest. Everyone hates places like this however I would have never came back to reality without them. I don't know if they read these reviews and the staff is probably all gone but thank you for everyone who works there y'all are heros.

I felt like I was safe at home here. Absolutely loved getting better there. The staff was the best part. Everywhere I turned was a kind smiling face and a warm understanding heart. They know what you are going through because they have been there and made it through. You are not a name and number. You are someone's friend, son, brother. I wanted to write a review to say how thankful I am to this facility and the incredible team (special shout out to my therapist Angela and Josh )who work here. Upon arrival I was going through it. From the very beginning the staff welcomed me with compassion, respect, and patience. Not only did they provide incredible treatment- they provided me with a family-like support. I felt understood, safe, and valued.
The therapists and facilitators earnestly listened and helped me navigate through the most difficult time of my life . Thanks to them I made progress and built confidence, learned healthier ways to cope, and began to learn how to love myself. I never felt alone, and felt encouraged and cared for each and every step of the way.

The Extra Mile is an extremely special place. The team is incredible and is supportive and works cohesively to provide care to every individual. They foster a sense of community and truly impact the lives of individuals on a personal level. I know some of the most amazing individuals both clients and staff alike who I have worked alongside through my journey at the mile and can say that each continue to impact my life on a daily basis in the most incredible ways.
There’s a balance between structure and reflection to help individuals learn to have fun while being sober (this can be a scary and foreign thing to many in early recovery) while assisting in self-reflection and growth helping individuals connect through a combination of different treatment modalities tailoring to different learning styles too while also connecting to community, demonstrating what it means to have a support group, and offering time for exploration of self.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It is a very welcoming environment, and the staff works diligently to make sure you are well taken care of. It is a great family vibe that thrives on rebuilding lives for the better. The Clinical Assistances, Therapist, Maintenance, Chef, Nurse, and everyone else at this company works hard everyday to ensure that clients are well taken care of, and are on the right path to recovery.

I’ve been on the program for 12 years, I ve had 3 awesome counselors. I stayed with one for 9 years, without her I wouldn’t have made it. She was in recovery herself, so She understood me. It is pretty bad right now, with the employee turnover rate, and organization with the Hurricane season. But with anything there is good and bad. I am sure they will get it back together soon.People need to understand that they are highly critiqued by federal laws. But as long as you do what your supposed to, you will not have any problems.

I started going to the methadone clinic after my daughter was born. I have never been arrested and I figured it would be really hard to be a dad while in active addiction. That was in 2001. I've moved around to different places, Gadsden, Trussville, Tuscaloosa and others. I really loved the people in Tuscaloosa and hated leaving. I had to return to the Oxford area, to help with my mom who was terminal with cancer. When I transferred back to Oxford they were great. I loved the staff. At one point they were down to a skeleton crew, they did the best they could at the time with what they had. They have gotten more staff now and they are wonderful. I don't feel like my number so much. Yes, they are strict on the rules but look at what they deal with. I can manipulate just about anyone as an active addict. We all have that power. It comes with the territory. Thank you everyone at the Oxford,Al clinic.
