I have never been arrested and I figured it would be really hard to be a dad while in active addiction. That was in 2001. I've moved around to different places, Gadsden, Trussville, Tuscaloosa and others. I really loved the people in Tuscaloosa and hated leaving. I had to return to the Oxford area, to help with my mom who was terminal with cancer. When I transferred back to Oxford they were great. I loved the staff. At one point they were down to a skeleton crew, they did the best they could at the time with what they had. They have gotten more staff now and they are wonderful. I don't feel like my number so much. Yes, they are strict on the rules but look at what they deal with. I can manipulate just about anyone as an active addict. We all have that power. I am NOT one of them! This facility is well laid out, and the staff is efficient and helpful. I had one glitch with their optometry department, but otherwise, no issues in 2+ years of going here. What they cannot do, they refer out for Community Care, or suggest the Birmingham VA. Despite Birmingham being nearly 2 hours each way, it’s been worth the trip each of the 2 times I went there. Unless I move, I will continue to go to this clinic, and I’ll recommend it. I appreciate the staff there each time I visit. Wingate were the best people & care I have received military or civilian that I can even remember. My anxiety was in full blown mode and April made me feel so understood and she was such a comfort. And B. Wingate made me feel heard and understood and set up all test, meds and referrals that were needed. I feel extremely bless to have had these two taking care of me and can not stress enough how quick , efficient and KIND they both were. The ladies at the front desk were beyond helpful as well getting my future appointments schedule before I left. I have nothing but good things to say for Oxford VA Clinic! The podiatrist at Trinka David Clinic listened to my concerns and set me up for further testing. It turns out that I had a fractured bone and a torn tendon (that I ended up losing due to the 5 year wait) and received surgery as soon as it was possible (I had to wait another year due to COVID-19). Full disclosure: I am a RMC employee. That said, I was triaged promptly and was taken to the back in a reasonable time. The ER got very busy after I arrived and there were folks in the ER much sicker than I was so I had to wait a little while. No problem. The lab tests and x-ray studies were done promptly and the ER doctor and nurses kept me informed along the way. About 6 hours from triage to discharge. I’m not sure how I could improve on the service I received. Well done RMC. Also: the new “app” to help keep patients and family informed is great!
