I am old enough now to understand that mental health does not need to be an embarrassing issue. Mental health issues affect many more people than you probably realize. For me, I inherited half of my mother‘s manic depression, and she was a severe manic depressive. She was often hospitalized shock treatments in the whole works. I inherited a milder form of the depressive side and It started when I was in my mid 40s. After a series of different medicines and approaches, I landed on one that kept me stable, but I didn’t realize that it was also keeping me much more low-key than my actual personality. Due to a number of different circumstances, I really pushed to change medicines and that’s when I met Dr. Nicole Montgomery. What I found so refreshing was that she actually listened to my thoughts about what was happening and was willing to try some of my ideas that I had developed over time about what might be good. She came up with a plan and I am very happy with the results. I’m no longer held at a flat level. I experience way more joy and have way more fun and see life through much more positive lens. One of the phrases Jackie would use when I was on the other medicine was I wish your outside would match your inside. I would be happy, but I would also be flat. I am a much happier person now. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are very discreet. And though I know that’s important to many people I am just not gonna be embarrassed about something. I have no control over. Mental health awareness is an important issue many people suffer without feeling able to address it. I hope if this helps one person to address whatever issue mentally they’re struggling with then I will be happy.

Hands down, this is an amazing program and it’s all because of the staff! Despite being terrified and ashamed, TinaMarie and Katie put me at ease without even trying when I initially went in to enroll - they’re able to take the situation seriously while giving you so much hope. I honestly can’t emphasize enough just how incredible the entire staff is (TinaMarie, Katie, Kristine, and Judith). During my second zoom group my counselor, Kristine, somehow recognized that I have PTSD and because she is so engaged and cares I was able to receive extra counseling with TinaMarie to help with my trauma without even having to ask or bring it up at all myself - that’s how much they care. I’ve had several experiences with all of the staff going above and beyond to help me get better! TinaMarie is the absolute best! There is no other person like her and Del Norte County and I are blessed to have her running HASP. She has literally changed my life.

I ended up here for the dui program and I can't rate it high enough. Glenda, who's been doing this for years and comes with insight, compassion and experience, and makes the classes interesting, is the best in her feild and brimming with knowledge!! The classes aren't dead boring and in fact, you learn a lot, build teamship through the other patients, and feel more knowledgeable after every class. I do reccomend opening up as much as possible, as doing this will help others to feel comfortable and give you the full benifits of these classes for your own growth. Every time I have come in I am greated by sweetheart Jamie, but every one of the staff members I've ever encountered have been sincerely kind and caring. I know this will be my last time, but I'd pick this place over and over again, for working around my inability to drive and difficult schedule as a result, and their overall care in every member that walks in and starts their journey with their guided help.
