I had the great privilege of staying at The Guest House Ocala for 60 days in May and June of this year. It was the first time I ever did this type of intensive residential therapy and I'm very glad that that experience was in this world class facility. The range of different modalities - from very powerful small group/individual trauma therapy and informative group presentations, to somatic/drama/art therapy, breath work, sound baths and yin yoga - allows for many different paths to heal and find joy again. The tremendous and highly trained support staff is an invaluable asset - keeping us safe, protected, heard and rather too well fed!! I truly believe that my experience at TGH saved my life and helped me ignite an adventure into truly living this wild and wonderful life.

How can you express your gratitude for the people and place that saved your life? I cannot praise the Guest House and its staff enough. From the moment I arrived in Orlando, I was greeted by my driver, Don, who reassured me that the Guest House would change my life for the better. I was deeply touched by the kindness and caring nature of the staff, whether it was the gardener or my therapist. I consistently felt a sense of security and connection during my stay. The staff was always attentive and fair regarding anything I needed. OG Bob would drive us to meetings, playing the music we loved, which allowed us to sing along and feel joyful. I was grateful for all the activities, whether it was bowling or going to the movies. Chef KC surprised me daily with the creativity and quality of our meals. Every dish was delicious and healthy, and the standards only increased as time went on. The living conditions and grounds were nothing short of perfect. We were surrounded by natural beauty both day and night, and our rooms had everything we could need. The classes were engaging and unique—something I had never experienced before—but they were incredibly effective in addressing trauma. Even after being gone for a year and participating in an alumni weekend, I felt as if I had never left. The Guest House maintained its loving and welcoming atmosphere. And finally, my therapist, Mark, truly saved my life with his gentle yet honest approach. I have never encountered anyone who has spoken poorly of him or expressed disappointment in his care. His commitment to my well-being was phenomenal and unwavering. He even called me on a Sunday—his day off—when he learned I was struggling. I have never seen or heard of a therapist so devoted to guiding someone through recovery. I cannot thank the Guest House enough for what they did for me and for the ongoing support I continue to receive after leaving. The weekly Zoom meetings to reconnect with old and new guests are especially crucial to our recovery, even after our time at the Guest House has come to an end. What business would genuinely care about you after you've left, possibly forever? That’s why I will never refer to the Guest House as a business. It is, quite simply, a caring community dedicated to recovery, fostering growth and happiness. In closing, it’s absolutely true what we’ve heard about the Guest House: it is the best of its kind. It has changed my life and given me meaning once again. Thank you!

Our team works with toxic and corrosive family systems that more times than not have at least one member who have been exposed to profound big "T" individual and internalized trauma and long-term little "t" systemic trauma. These scars materialize in relationships, lifestyle, and health and financial consequences. As a long-time veteran of this work, with all the staff and ownership changes that impact our industry, Judy and John and Audra and the entire Guest House team continue to set the standard for comprehensive and cutting edge trauma work and more importantly, healing.

The Refuge, specifically the therapist Deborah, has been a major blessing for me. As an 18 year old addict, I’ve been a mess from a young age. The Refuge offers a place of healing and unconditional love for any and everybody willing to do the work. I completed this program thanks to the nursing staff, Counselor Amber, Counselor Eliana, BHT Greg, and all the other dedicated hard workers here. The cleaning staff stole my sweatpants and T- shirt, that I was not too happy about. I enjoyed this program and it had a lot to offer.

I have been going to the vascular clinic due to chronic venous inefficiency. Yesterday, October 29th 2025, I had surgery to remove a "very bad" vein in my lower right leg. Even though there was a long delay because a pipe had broken in the basement causing electrical issues, everything went exceptionally well. I was treated with kindness and respect the entire time. The nursing staff were all amazing. I can't say enough good things about the anesthesiologist and his assistant. I just wish I could recall their names. They were so good to me and they explained everything they were going to do in great detail. They treated me with great respect. And finally, my surgeon, Dr. Scott Berceli. I could not have possibly been in better hands. He explained the entire procedure and met with my wife while I was in recovery. He explained everything to her as well, including what to do and not do during my recovery period. He is absolutely fantastic. I can not give the entire staff enough praise. From start to finish, it was awesome!

As soon as I calm down & get hydrated, and comfy and clean in my bed, my experiences at Uf Health Shands Vista have become quite pleasant; as long as I can find people who can understand, trust, and believe me. Multiple trips outside and keeping a healthy diet ; looking forward to the meal, shower, and sleep times ; listening to music, staying busy with writing & drawing, attending every group, and sharing my experiences with people who understand is very beneficial for my mental health. I am a longtime Uf Health & Shands patient, as I am a native Gainesville, Floridian. First, I would just like to mention in the mental health department… some employees, can or will not show empathy , which can make the experience quite disheartening & difficult to find happiness or make healthy progress.Miss ‘Lauren Hertell’ was rude to my mother and I when she visited me . She said loudly and I quote “You’re on your own mama” . And laughed. I was also verbally & physically threatened by a very tall, large fellow who almost reached the ceiling in stance. they didn’t remove him until the next night. I could hardly sleep. There was also a tech who wore a bun that would smirk & laugh at me before she went home for the night. I was put on phone restriction for days for accidentally dialing 911. We had to dial 9-1 before calls and unfortunately, I never received any notifications about any calls, which would have made my day. Now, all the honorable mentions: Huge shoutout to Miss Laura who hunted down an important phone number for me. Hi, Barbie! (Barbara), Britney, Mr ‘Joe’ , Miss Karen, Gabriel, Ben, Laura, Danny, Dorian (Grey) , Tre, Miss Vilma, Miss Mia, Jacqueline, etc.. everybody. Also my sweet nurse who went and found me contact solution when I needed it.Thank you guys; from the techs, housekeepers, doctors, RN’s, and of course Dr Moore and Dr Solomon… By the end of my stay, I can healthily & properfly communicate with the staff and they show me kindness & respect back. It’s just a lonely place if you are alone or don’t have familial support. Thank you all and with all due respect, I hope to never HAVE to see you again. - Brittany Ferguson Former Patient

First the positives: Most of the nurses are incredibly nice, caring and accommodating to requests. My therapist Laura, and the weekday Psychiatrists were great! Unlike other reviews, I had multiple people review my concerns about medication and I had many people discuss the options with me and the concerns that I had. Particularly related to the potential long-term brain effects that I had heard research about increasing your risk of Alzheimer's. Ultimately, the decision was to start with a very low dose, which I was welcome to try and discontinued if I had any unpleasant side effects. It was very much a collaborative, non pressured approach to medication. We had two wireless phones available for 7 am to 10 pm and could provide a list of approved callers. In fact, (I witnessed) if you did not have someone on your list, they would not confirm or deny that you were there, but they would make note of that person's call, share that they had called, and would ask the patient if they were interested in adding that person to their list. They, had some games, puzzles. The negatives, and how they were managed: The intake process was very long, I get the impression it's very difficult for them to determine when the "busy time" for intake will be. Your introduction to your "pod" for a lack of a better term, (definitely has prison vibes) was horrible. Getting a "skin check" which was just short of a strip search was logical, but not comfortable. The fact that it was co-ed was immediately off-putting to me, I didn't know the schedule, and I didn't Initially feel safe. A nurse should have come to explain the schedule or provided a welcome pamphlet explaining things. The would have been very helpful. I did have a psychology fellow come speak with me which helped put me at ease. I did not get one second of sleep the first night. The prison type bed was extremely uncomfortable. I was near the nurses station and for whatever reason between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. that room was entered or exited at least a hundred times. The loud door was awful. In their defense the kind nurse did offer melatonin but I didn't feel safe so I didn't want it. This caused me to be incredibly anxious, very frustrated, and resistant to opening myself to the process. My door was opened at least 3 times per hour to check on me for safety. I felt a camera would make more sense. However, when I shared my issues, I received a pad for my bed, ear plugs, and melatonin. Then I slept great! I got a lot out of group time, which helped everyone feel more comfortable with each other. The food in one word was "mediocre." I am interested in nutrition so I can definitely say you get plenty of food, and there are some relatively nutritious options but overall it's pretty much hospital food. With a little bit of junk food mixed in. They allow very little outside time which is a bad idea, everyone wanted outside time. The weekend had less scheduled time which left people bored. My therapist managed to scrounge up a note book but many people said the would benefit from journaling. A case manager said she would resolve that issue and agreed saying "we usually have journals." Overall, I think people can choose to get something out of this setting if you understand that most of the things are designed for safety.

I was there for possible blood infection and septicemia. All though I waited for 9 hours in the waiting room and then 11 hours in the ER room itself, every nurse and Dr was polite and courteous. Apologized for the long wait to get to my room in the Med/Surgery unit. The nurses and Drs on the floor were professional and great to help me for the whole 9 days I was there. From the volunteers to case managers to the patient advocate, all combined to give me a great experience. The only thing that I did not like was the phlebotomists blew almost every vein I had. They had to call the vascular team to come in a get an I.V. started. Other than that, it was cool. Tyvm for a great experience in healthcare. Appreciate it and GBY.

I am forever grateful to this place. The staff is incredible, they truly care and put their heart and soul in everything they do. Donald was my therapist, Brandy was my case manager; they were both wonderful. The other therapists and case managers that weren’t even mine were a vital part in my recovery. I suggest utilizing all the staff you can, including the BHT’s. They want to help, and they definitely did. The reviews talking about “only an hour a day in the pool,” or the “gym isn’t good enough,” if that’s what you’re taking away with you in your recovery, then good luck. We had groups every day of the week, which is a necessary part in our recovery. They had activities for us every night, so we could build connections while having fun. The pool and the gym were extra gifts when we had the opportunity to use them. I would have loved it without. If you’re considering taking the steps to recovery, 100% recommend.

I was a patient at Lakeview from October 20, 2002, to November 19, 2002. I was there during Lakeview's infancy, when there was only one building, a couple of picnic tables, a basketball hoop and a beat up volleyball net. I can tell you, with great conviction, their program works. Lakeview gave me the tools I needed to learn how to live a sober life. I still use those tools today, and I have been sober for just over 23 years now. I wish I could come down there and speak to the people currently residing there and tell them it's possible to turn theirs lives around. I am living proof of that, Thank you, Lakeview.

I was forced to go to Lakeview but I'm happy that I did. I finally admitted that I was an addict and I needed help and I need to change my life. At first I did not want to participate or talk with anyone but after a couple days of hearing other people's stories I realize where I was at in my life and where I was going to end up if I continue. During my stay here I follow their program schedule and start going to the group therapy. For some you may think it's dumb, useless, waste of time but if you really just be more open-minded and use what they teach you it will make a big difference in your life. A big plus for me while I was here was the pool and the gym, never really use the pool but it is a very nice pool with a nice view of the pond I'm back to the gym the gym have everything that you need and yes they do have real trainers. You only get access to the pool and gym if you're in the store, php, and IOP if you're in stepping stone you're out of luck. Yes you can bring your car and leave it park at the Star Wednesday and Saturday are outings AA meeting Monday, Wednesday and Friday NA meeting Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Walmart runs and etc

I had the pleasure of touring last week; what an awesome experience. Thank you, Isabella and Natalia, for taking the time to tour me and discuss the program. Peace and Purpose Asheville are always looking to forge relationships with treatment centers and Lakeview's clinical staff are second to none, in my experience. They also have an awesome integration program which involves client exposure to the outside, where they go shopping and are involved with a lot of off-campus activities. No hesitation recommending it as a great program for family and loved ones. Keep up the good work Lakeview! Ronan O’Loughlin Peace and Purpose

Unforgettable experience. Almost all staff there when I was there to rehabilitate, was thoughtful and had their hearts in the right place. The program directors, support councilors, and all other staff members on campus made sure almost daily to check up on the youth, and building solid foundations of trust needed to have consistent progress in therapy both in session and internal. There were opportunities to further your education and if you could show responsibility and determination to better yourself, your given opportunity’s to learn more hands on life skills, like painting or how to properly write a resume and apply for a Job. While from the perspective of being rehabilitated, things can seem negative and hopeless at times. I've been a patient here for a long time and have had quite a few counselors but Ms. Regina and Ms. Sandora are by far AMAZING!!!! They go above and beyond at all times. It doesn't matter the issue they always get a positive resolution. Anytime I need to talk their doors are always open. They truly listen and remember the things I tell them even though they deal with hundreds of people everyday. They show true compassion for each and every patient.

Group sessions are very helpful and I have learned several new techniques. The one-on-one sessions have not been as useful as I don't have things I really need to work on outside of group. Overall, I have had a very positive experience and really like the flexibility.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jakirah did my substance abuse evaluation, and she was incredibly understanding and supportive. She provided me with all the resources I needed to help with my CPS case, and I’ve never felt this comfortable and at ease in an appointment before when it came to getting things done in my case plan. Thank you so much for everything, Jakirah!

Hands-down, the best experience I’ve had ever with a dermatology office. The front desk staff was amazing over the phone and in person. Lia and Mia were professional, patient, friendly, and helpful. Whoever answers your phone and is the first person you see in an office makes a difference. Unfortunately, the majority of doctors offices today don’t have the kind of staff that this place has. Marissa in the back was very patient and thorough. I barely waited 2 minutes which was fantastic. Stella was a great nurse practitioner, patient with all my questions and did my body check with dignity with proper eyewear and lighting (that has never happened at my prior derms office). She provided a lot of helpful suggestions and a prescription for future use for a concern I have. She also cared about my medical history and ensuring my safety and skin health. If I needed to suggest what green flags to look for in a medical practice it would be everything this place is. The facility is also clean and kept up with. I can’t say anything negative at all! I’ve been so happy with my initial appointment and shared their information with other people. Thank you for a great first appointment and for being so much better than what’s out there. I was dreading this due to other practices I’ve been to but you exceeded my expectations thank you to your amazing team!

I didn’t go through residential, but I want to say this clearly: if someone needs that level of care, or PHP, or IOP it is worth it. What I found at La Amistad is powerful enough that I would recommend the entire continuum without hesitation. When I first walked into IOP, I was carrying more than anyone could see. I had just lost my dad a wound that cut into every part of my identity. Grief wasn’t just sadness; it was confusion, loneliness, and feeling like the ground had disappeared under me. I didn’t know where to put those emotions. I didn’t know how to make sense of the memories, the guilt, or the silence that grief brings. Then I met Violeta, my therapist in IOP. She didn’t just help me understand my pain she helped me understand myself. She gave me the space and the tools to face what I had been avoiding for years. She helped me see where my survival patterns came from and how to replace them with healthier ones. That alone cracked something open in me. When I transitioned into the alumni group, everything changed again. I met Alyssa and Corey, and for the first time in a long time, I felt something I didn’t even realize I was missing: community. Real people who understood struggle. Real people who didn’t judge. Real people who showed up. The alumni group became the place where I learned to speak without filtering myself. Where I stopped pretending I was “fine.” Where I realized I wasn’t alone, and I didn’t have to carry everything by myself anymore. It helped me grieve with support instead of isolation. It helped me rebuild self-worth instead of self-blame. It helped me create a new identity rooted in healing, not in trauma. This community became my anchor. It gave me structure, purpose, accountability, and people who genuinely care. It helped me regain confidence, discipline, and the belief that I’m allowed to grow past what I’ve survived. Losing my dad broke me open, but being here helped me rebuild. And not as the old version of myself trying to “be strong,” but as someone who is finally grounded, supported, and choosing healing every day. I’m grateful for the therapists who guided me, the peers who walked alongside me, and the space that allowed me to feel safe enough to change. This experience didn’t just help me survive it gave me back the life I thought I had lost. Forever grateful.
