The beds are comfortable, clients receive three meals a day along with a snack, and the overall atmosphere promotes healing and recovery. Alexis left me on hold for 10 minutes. Then lied about an open December appointment. Utilizing words like we only have one doctor that can see people "like you". She then stated that they only have openings for late February. I have never asked for services as a female or Transgender. I'm a guy, period. There is no reason for gender stereotyping because I choose to dress or look a certain way. As such the TSP CPT Dr.Jefferies chose to act with violence during one of our sessions. This is very vindictive behavior. You suggested more fellowship and ditched me at my first AA dance. 2 ladies came to Windy City Church women's big book meeting on Mondays and felt so shamed the went home and killed themselves. Those ladies made me feel the same but I refuse to kill myself though your careless suggestions made me feel like I should. The ladies in AA arent doctors. Thanks for being professionals Hazeldon. The staff are mostly friendly and it's easy to get into the clinic within a day or two. Once you get to the correct methadone dose the dope sickness is mostly gone and then you can slowly get back to a normal life. I've had a few counselors since going here and all were nice and professional but my current one Gary is Awesome. He seems to really care and is always helpful. You can even go just in for an intake and trust that the intake therapist will be very knowledgable and be able to decide what would be right for. I was first admitted to the young adult program, but then moved to the OCD program after only one week as the therapists were very attentive and realised I did not get the right diagnosis. All other therapists I saw before going to compass were not able to give me that diagnosis. Progress is not linear, as I learned at Compass, so not every week was great, and there were times I questioned if I would even get better and the treatment was working. But I put in the effort with the help and guidance of the amazing treatment team (which covered learning skills, dedicated exposure time, individual therapy, psychiatry, family therapy, resource therapy and art therapy) and I saw significant improvement in my mental health within my two and a half months at compass. I am not healed, but that’s also not the point. Especially for people just starting their mental health journey, Compass gives you a stepping stone for further treatment, and means to start being able to handle your everyday life again. Don’t be scared to reach to to them! Even if you’re unsure what you need or if you even require to be in such a program, they will know how what to do. I wanted to be at TK. I didn't have someone make the decision for me, although my husband was very supportive. Out of all the staff, there were only 2 I didn't like. Not that they were bad, just a clash with our personalities. I have epilepsy, it's chronic and active. I had to go home to have surgery (a replacement battery for the device that helps control my seizures). I was gone for about 36 hours. The staff was great with my seizures and with my surgery. I thought I was going to need to go back when my husband passed away, but I made it through. A lot of that I can credit TK with for giving me the tools to work with. The only problem I really had was leaving. Leaving was terrifying because that safety net just vanished. That is one thing I think the staff needs to prepare you a bit better for. I've been healthy since leaving. Sure, I still get the feelings/urges on occasion but I created my own safety net. I can control the urges. I'm actually rather proud of myself. PS - If any of the former staff ever reads this "Meany Mo-Mo" you know who you are. Thank you, for all you did. Your patience, your help, and just being there when I needed it. I have been to many ERs and have endured hundreds of in-patient stays over the course of 50 years. St Joe’s in Chicago, Illinois, is the only hospital I’ve ever felt moved enough to leave a review. In general, I only take the time to leave feedback when what I’m reviewing is extremely positive or extremely negative. From the doctors and nurses in the ER to my 3-night stay on the eleventh floor it was a good experience. Everyone was very professional and compassionate. I guess I could say that St. Joe’s was my birthday gift. Every bit along the way I felt seen and heard. I was in pain and extremely dehydrated, but I felt very safe and truly cared about in every department I had to deal with. I was treated with respect and kindness. My room was kept clean, linen changed when needed and when I pressed the button for a nurse, I didn’t wait more than 5 to 10 minutes. If you know you know how quick that is. I never felt I was burdening anybody with my needs. My discharge went smoothly and quickly, which is also rare. As I’m writing this, I’m aware it sounds like I’m leaving a good review for a hotel, but it’s really important that I let others know where I received such empathetic and professional care. I have been in the program for over 7 years. The program honestly saved my life after trying several other things. My addiction became like most had back problems and my doctors were very free to prescribe the opioids and benzodiazepines. Xanax was actually the worst for me hospitalized for over 10 days due to all the seizures. Anyways the nurses Yolanda Jackie Val are sweethearts and have never judged me once. Yolanda is the one person who always tells me she is proud of me I don’t even hear that from family. Kim who runs front desk is also great. In my experience I have had around 6 counselors and sorry to say this is the downfall here. I don’t know if they are overworked micromanaged or just don’t care but I have had to go elsewhere for my counseling. I have promise for my new counselor April who is new to this location. Since starting she has been on top on my case not letting anything slide. She gets accomplished what the 5 others took months to do and I appreciate that. Non judgmental follow-up and just caring she accomplishes where most can’t and this is what keeps me clean and alive and I thank her for that more than I can say. Unfortunately it's all too common a trait for someone like myself - to make everything else the problem except me. It's sad to know that these people leaving bad reviews didn't give themselves a chance by accepting what is so simply laid out in front of you the moment you walk through the doors of ECS ~ A WAY OUT! A better life. Better relationships. A comfort with myself that I didn't know was possible being sober/drug free. A desire to participate in society as a functioning human being! These were all things that did not exist less than a year ago but do now. But if I didn't make the decision that I wanted things to change the moment I walked in the door, then I'm almost certain that I would not be here today. ECS never lied to me or sugarcoated my problems. They never mistreated me. They simply expected me to respect my peers and the staff just as they did to me the moment I walked through the door. And I thank God I did! Some of us just simply aren't ready. And when that's the case we find them unable to accept accountability and work hard to change. I did find it hilarious how one of the "negative" reviews unintentionally said something positive by saying "these reviews are by people who work here" By saying that he admitted just one more way that Dr. Sharma helps us out! (I have never worked at ECS but I read through them all. And out of the 100 plus reviews only a handful are from employees but their voice counts just as much, if not more). But it is very cool that some people go through ECS and then are trusted enough to be employed by the very people who know their darkest days. Kudos ECS! Well at the lowest point in my 42yrs of existence on this Earth. I found myself at Chicago Behavioral Hospital. And after being dazed and confused for the first four days in detox - I came to the realization that I was broken mentally, physically and spiritually. I was offered help and got connected with what I now know - is one of the best things that's happened to me. They connected me with Existential Counselors Society (ECS). I've never been to a treatment center in my life as a client. In the past as a member of A.A. I brought meetings to clients at other treatment centers. But this place is different it's truly special; it has opened up my mind to another approach on how to deal with my alcoholism. They speak my "language" what comes from the heart reaches the heart and I finally picked up that last missing piece of the puzzle to understand and deal with my alcoholism. From Doc, Justin, Brian, staff and all the counselors - especially the counselor that was assigned to me are all phenomenal. I believe God deliberately placed them in my path so I can truly come to grips with reality and gave me information so I can make good and informed decisions - direct them towards positive actions in my life. I have never met such caring, kind, wonderful and supportive staff at this program. Cassandra, Ebonique, Pam, Shenika, Michelle, Wykeeta, Dominic, Sonyee, Donna and the students Lauren,August and Dr Dana. I have learned so much from them. Who I am now is because of what I have learned from them. I am growing into a better person. I am stronger than I was before. I feel I can think more wiser than I did before. Overall, my experience at Gateway Chicago was exceptional and overwhelmingly positive. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with dignity, respect, and genuine compassion. The food was good, the staff was outstanding, and my counselor, Nate, was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. Supervisor Herb is highly professional and, as he often says, he "gets things done" for the clients—a statement I personally witnessed time and time again. His leadership has had a tremendous impact on the men's unit, and he deserves recognition for creating an environment where clients feel supported, respected, and encouraged to succeed. I would also like to recognize Mike, Muhammad, Kenny, Kevin, Richard, Eva, Prentice, Katelyn, China, Mr. B, and Dale. Dale's classes are engaging, informative, and inspiring, and his passion for recovery is evident in every interaction he has with clients. Every one of these staff members demonstrated professionalism, compassion, patience, and dedication. They treated not only me but every client with kindness and respect, making recovery feel possible and giving people hope during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Gateway Chicago, located at 3828 West Taylor Street, Chicago, Illinois 60624, did far more than provide substance abuse treatment—it helped bring sanity, clarity, and serenity back into my life. The staff consistently went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and the needs of others. I witnessed countless acts of generosity and compassion. For example, today the facility distributed an abundance of quality clothing to clients. Priority was given to those who arrived with nothing, and after everyone in need was taken care of, there were still enough clothes for others. It was just one of many examples of how Gateway genuinely cares about the people they serve. The facility itself is clean and well maintained. The beds are comfortable, clients receive three meals a day along with a snack, and the overall atmosphere promotes healing and recovery. While anyone can find something to criticize about any organization, I found very few, if any, faults with Gateway Chicago. My overall experience exceeded my expectations. I am sincerely grateful to the ownership, the corporate leadership, and every member of the staff for the hard work, compassion, passion, and dedication they show every day to individuals seeking recovery. Most importantly, I am grateful that Gateway helped me regain peace of mind, hope for the future, and the serenity I had been missing for so long. I wholeheartedly recommend Gateway Chicago to anyone seeking treatment. 7Jul2026 Follow up from the woman's health clinic after ER visit suggested by Dr. Burgard for my wrist injury. Nurse Patricia I was extremely friendly and gave me options to get my eyeglasses, teeth cleaned, and referral, for my spouse to get a primary physician. Extremely helpful couple working the mid-counter were able Guide me to the secondary eye clinic, Brenda was super friendly getting me checked into the acute Eye clinic. Additionally while I waited the workers at the coffee lounge we're exceedingly helpful and very cheerful. There was a new female who was very cheerful and was thanking the veterans for there service. In ( the main eye clinc) Dr.Dessler was very thorough ask and educating me on the 4 treatments. Both eye clinics were very transparent. And that is something to be stated. I highly recommend the eye clinics here. 11Nov2025 Downgraded to 1 star Review After " Alexis " (Women Clinic) left a voicemail attempting to get me into an appointment. Alexis left me on hold for 10 minutes. Then lied about an open December appointment. Utilizing words like we only have one doctor that can see people "like you". She then stated that they only have openings for late February. I have never asked for services as a female or Transgender. I'm a guy, period. There is no reason for gender stereotyping because I choose to dress or look a certain way. As such the TSP CPT Dr.Jefferies chose to act with violence during one of our sessions. This is very vindictive behavior. Most grateful for this treatment center on my 7th anniversary sober from alcohol. The seeds Hazeldon planted saved my life! Shame on whoever is letting Susan Nice run meetings out of your building. She let a stranger stroke my leg her entire meeting and never stopped it once. Had the audacity to ask if it was my boyfriend after. Knowing I live with PTSD from abuse being my longtime 'godsponsor'. She just spoke at the Canada opening. How are you letting someone so detached from reality speak to those in need of help? How many meetings has she been to? Her suggestions along with Laura Ws (whos Mom works with congress scary enough) and the ladies of AA in particular are reckless. Suggested I do my first lead of life and didnt show up. How many woman have you sponsored Laura? You suggested more fellowship and ditched me at my first AA dance. 2 ladies came to Windy City Church women's big book meeting on Mondays and felt so shamed the went home and killed themselves. Those ladies made me feel the same but I refuse to kill myself though your careless suggestions made me feel like I should. The ladies in AA arent doctors. Thanks for being professionals Hazeldon. Alano clubs are hot spots for gossip that's ruining lives. Grateful to be alive and sober. Thanks for starting my journey with me 14 years ago! PSI saved my life. The people here not only helped me want to live a healthier life, but they also helped me find my voice again. This was my second IOP program and honestly the service and care that I received was on a completely different level. Mike Geraci is one of the best therapists I've ever had the pleasure of working with. PSI and Mike went above and beyond for me and my peers to make sure that we finished the program ready to jump back into our lives. I also spent time and stayed at the sober living apartments through PSI and would highly recommend this choice. The apartment was comfortable and in a great location. PSI was an experience in honesty, structure, and human connection that’s helped me rebuild after years of destructive patterns and self medication. Been going to Family Guidance for awhile now and I absolutely recommend this methadone clinic to anyone struggling with opiate addiction. The staff are mostly friendly and it's easy to get into the clinic within a day or two. Once you get to the correct methadone dose the dope sickness is mostly gone and then you can slowly get back to a normal life. I've had a few counselors since going here and all were nice and professional but my current one Gary is Awesome. He seems to really care and is always helpful. I would most likely be dead if I didn't sign up at Family Guidance. If you're looking for a way to stop using dope give this clinic a try.

I’m writing this review as much for Suncloud as I am for the entire concept of behavioral health centers. I admitted to the adult PHP program reluctantly, but found myself not wanting to leave the community at the end of my treatment. Their philosophy is that any and all pain is worth healing, and that we are all “in recovery” from something—whether it’s substances, eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma or anything in between. The opportunity to process your life’s challenges safely and without judgement is a privilege I wish everyone had and one I wish I knew about sooner; if you can take the time to prioritize your peace, do it here. I won’t argue with other reviews calling out some very real operational/administrative shortfalls, but these shouldn’t deter you from considering Suncloud. Remember—as it’s a fully voluntary program—you can advocate for yourself and ask all the questions you need to in order to decide if their approach and recommendations are right for you.

Would 100% recommend coming to Compass if you are experiencing mental health struggles but don’t feel like going to an inpatient program or hospital would be helpful or necessary. You can even go just in for an intake and trust that the intake therapist will be very knowledgable and be able to decide what would be right for. I was first admitted to the young adult program, but then moved to the OCD program after only one week as the therapists were very attentive and realised I did not get the right diagnosis. All other therapists I saw before going to compass were not able to give me that diagnosis. Progress is not linear, as I learned at Compass, so not every week was great, and there were times I questioned if I would even get better and the treatment was working. But I put in the effort with the help and guidance of the amazing treatment team (which covered learning skills, dedicated exposure time, individual therapy, psychiatry, family therapy, resource therapy and art therapy) and I saw significant improvement in my mental health within my two and a half months at compass. I am not healed, but that’s also not the point. Especially for people just starting their mental health journey, Compass gives you a stepping stone for further treatment, and means to start being able to handle your everyday life again. Don’t be scared to reach to to them! Even if you’re unsure what you need or if you even require to be in such a program, they will know how what to do.

Compass changed my life. I have had anxiety for years but got to the point where I couldn’t function normally at work. Making the call to schedule intake was the scariest part. The work you do in the program will be some of the hardest work you’ve ever or will ever do and it is 1000% worth it. I can’t recommend this program enough. Just make the call.

My son was in the PHP and IOP programs at the Chicago location to help him with his anxiety, ADHD, and regulating his emotions. Everyone on his team was absolutely amazing and had my son’s best interests at heart. Being around other kids like him made him feel less alone. Im on day 5 of a jury trial. I've been a patient for 4 years. I went from 16mg down to 1mg. I haven't touched an opiate since Dec of 2021. Today, God forbid, I come in on a schefuled appointment, a day early, on a month prescription. Why? Because I happened to run out 24 hours early due to difficulties weening off subs. Something that a doctor would likely expect and appreciate. Alexis, Im sorry I didn't just hold out til Friday. I didn't want to be in full blown withdrawals during a pivotal moment in my career. Shame on me. Next month, instead of giving you full disclosure i'll tell you a fairytale. That must be so much more productive. Do you think I disclose the truth because I'm an idiot? No, it's because I actually trust professionals. You breached it. I don't want special treatment. However, if you're going to play a petty game, have the guts to say it to my face. I can't come tomorrow morning and show you my half strip. That doesn't mean I'm selling the sub strips or some other ridiculous concern. I have children who need to get to school and/or a babysitter and then I need to be in court for a trial. I can come Saturday. Hopefully that's ok with you doc. Pretty please. Lsstly, I left 5 stars because no one else had ever done this to me without saying it to my face first. I owe Symetria a lot, especially Rachel. I will remove this Saturday night. My point is Alexis, say it to the patient's face. 16mg down to 1mg and you make me feel like a criminal? Its comical. Its not like I just showed up. I rescheduled. Its called discretion. Use it.

I see a lot of negative reviews on here and my experience might have been different due to my age (late 30s). I wanted to be at TK. I didn't have someone make the decision for me, although my husband was very supportive. Out of all the staff, there were only 2 I didn't like. Not that they were bad, just a clash with our personalities. I have epilepsy, it's chronic and active. I had to go home to have surgery (a replacement battery for the device that helps control my seizures). I was gone for about 36 hours. The staff was great with my seizures and with my surgery. I thought I was going to need to go back when my husband passed away, but I made it through. A lot of that I can credit TK with for giving me the tools to work with. The only problem I really had was leaving. Leaving was terrifying because that safety net just vanished. That is one thing I think the staff needs to prepare you a bit better for. I've been healthy since leaving. Sure, I still get the feelings/urges on occasion but I created my own safety net. I can control the urges. I'm actually rather proud of myself. PS - If any of the former staff ever reads this "Meany Mo-Mo" you know who you are. Thank you, for all you did. Your patience, your help, and just being there when I needed it. You literally are the best. <3

I was on a long weekend birthday vacation with my adult daughter when unfortunately my life-long auto-immune disease decided to flare. I had to go by ambulance from our hotel room to the ER. We were told our best chance of being seen quickly was a drop off at St. Joe’s. Turns out, that was the only bit of fortune I had that weekend. I have been to many ERs and have endured hundreds of in-patient stays over the course of 50 years. St Joe’s in Chicago, Illinois, is the only hospital I’ve ever felt moved enough to leave a review. In general, I only take the time to leave feedback when what I’m reviewing is extremely positive or extremely negative. From the doctors and nurses in the ER to my 3-night stay on the eleventh floor it was a good experience. Everyone was very professional and compassionate. I guess I could say that St. Joe’s was my birthday gift. Every bit along the way I felt seen and heard. I was in pain and extremely dehydrated, but I felt very safe and truly cared about in every department I had to deal with. I was treated with respect and kindness. My room was kept clean, linen changed when needed and when I pressed the button for a nurse, I didn’t wait more than 5 to 10 minutes. If you know you know how quick that is. I never felt I was burdening anybody with my needs. My discharge went smoothly and quickly, which is also rare. As I’m writing this, I’m aware it sounds like I’m leaving a good review for a hotel, but it’s really important that I let others know where I received such empathetic and professional care.

The hospital and outpatient services have always taken good care of me. The hospital is old. The Surf building -outpatient is newer, up to date and an excellent facility.

If they took my insurance which covers everything, it would def be a better experience. However the choice between using and taking my medicine is clear to me and worth the money in the end. However it is a program that you have to work for yourself. No one can do it for you.

Let me just say I was a patient at Medmark for years and above everything no matter what because they open at 4:45 AM says it all. They generally want to meet everyday people’s needs to live a normal life.In and out the door before 5am to do what you need to do w your life. Try and find another clinic that does that for you. You won’t. Working men and women this your clinic. Just no weed. Sorry.

I do not typically do these reviews however I felt very strongly I needed to. I have been in the program for over 7 years. The program honestly saved my life after trying several other things. My addiction became like most had back problems and my doctors were very free to prescribe the opioids and benzodiazepines. Xanax was actually the worst for me hospitalized for over 10 days due to all the seizures. Anyways the nurses Yolanda Jackie Val are sweethearts and have never judged me once. Yolanda is the one person who always tells me she is proud of me I don’t even hear that from family. Kim who runs front desk is also great. In my experience I have had around 6 counselors and sorry to say this is the downfall here. I don’t know if they are overworked micromanaged or just don’t care but I have had to go elsewhere for my counseling. I have promise for my new counselor April who is new to this location. Since starting she has been on top on my case not letting anything slide. She gets accomplished what the 5 others took months to do and I appreciate that. Non judgmental follow-up and just caring she accomplishes where most can’t and this is what keeps me clean and alive and I thank her for that more than I can say. Doctor is a different story for a different day I will just say to the women ask that a third person be in the room. That’s all!

In my darkest moments, when I couldn't see a way forward, they held the belief in my recovery until I was strong enough to hold it for myself. Their personalized, compassionate approach made me feel safe, heard, and truly understood rather than just another case file. I am writing this with a profound sense of peace and a clear mind that I haven't experienced in years. Saying "thank you" feels far too small for what they have done for me—they truly saved my life, and I will be forever grateful for this second chance. If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that healing is possible, and this is the place to find it. With that being said, It's unsettling to read some of these negative reviews knowing that they are the farthest thing from the truth. Unfortunately it's all too common a trait for someone like myself - to make everything else the problem except me. It's sad to know that these people leaving bad reviews didn't give themselves a chance by accepting what is so simply laid out in front of you the moment you walk through the doors of ECS ~ A WAY OUT! A better life. Better relationships. A comfort with myself that I didn't know was possible being sober/drug free. A desire to participate in society as a functioning human being! These were all things that did not exist less than a year ago but do now. But if I didn't make the decision that I wanted things to change the moment I walked in the door, then I'm almost certain that I would not be here today. ECS never lied to me or sugarcoated my problems. They never mistreated me. They simply expected me to respect my peers and the staff just as they did to me the moment I walked through the door. And I thank God I did! Some of us just simply aren't ready. And when that's the case we find them unable to accept accountability and work hard to change. I did find it hilarious how one of the "negative" reviews unintentionally said something positive by saying "these reviews are by people who work here" By saying that he admitted just one more way that Dr. Sharma helps us out! (I have never worked at ECS but I read through them all. And out of the 100 plus reviews only a handful are from employees but their voice counts just as much, if not more). But it is very cool that some people go through ECS and then are trusted enough to be employed by the very people who know their darkest days. Kudos ECS!

Where to start with ECS. Well at the lowest point in my 42yrs of existence on this Earth. I found myself at Chicago Behavioral Hospital. And after being dazed and confused for the first four days in detox - I came to the realization that I was broken mentally, physically and spiritually. I was offered help and got connected with what I now know - is one of the best things that's happened to me. They connected me with Existential Counselors Society (ECS). I've never been to a treatment center in my life as a client. In the past as a member of A.A. I brought meetings to clients at other treatment centers. But this place is different it's truly special; it has opened up my mind to another approach on how to deal with my alcoholism. They speak my "language" what comes from the heart reaches the heart and I finally picked up that last missing piece of the puzzle to understand and deal with my alcoholism. From Doc, Justin, Brian, staff and all the counselors - especially the counselor that was assigned to me are all phenomenal. I believe God deliberately placed them in my path so I can truly come to grips with reality and gave me information so I can make good and informed decisions - direct them towards positive actions in my life. When you're ready to stop and stay stopped this is your place to go. (Be a Nike commercial and "Just Do It.")
