It was left undiagnosed and mistreated for a long period of time. It took a lot of trials and tribulations for him and the loved ones involved, especially with me being I was the closest one to him and was susceptible to his symptoms. I also started picking up his symptoms, like I was suffering from it as well. Kinda like second-hand smoking. tHe went to a couple of recovery center which did not help him at all. But when he went to the IAFF COE, it was like a switch was turned on. It took a while for the treatment to really take effect or to see any results. But he made it through. I can't begin to express the gratefulness the family has. I wish I would have found a way for him to get there sooner and start his treatment. I was following the center since the beginning. But things happen a reason. When the day came that he was ready to feel alive again, you all helped him find his life again. What works for some will not work for others. This fact makes running an establishment such as RCA Capital Region quite the challenge. There are people who have the gift and ability to help everyone strive in recovery at this facility though. One who stands out the most is Brittany Rieman. She has an astonishing story, that has given her the ability to relate to any and all patients within RCA, past present and future. Brittany is strong willed and proud of the things she has overcome along her journey. This gives people hope both in and out of the rooms, all across the board. It shows the tenacious way to be when trying to over come something such as substance addiction. Or poor mental health. The fact that RCA provides a counselor/therapist to their patients is a hugely valuable and important aspect to recovery. Strong mental health is the beginning of a successful journey in any aspect of life. Pastor Kenneth White is one of the therapists on staff at the Capital Region and he leaves a lasting impression on his patients as well. He relates to them in so many ways both on a personal and clinical level. Ms.Rachel and Mr.Tim are two group instructors who apply the information to their own struggles and experiences which makes the education personal and meaningful. Finally Ms.Tammy, this is a woman who genuinely cares about the struggle and experiences each and every patient has which are all their own. No one knows what it’s like to live in someone else’s struggles. Within RCA though you are surrounded with people who double as both peers and mentors who’ve made some of the same mistakes you have but also offer a different perspective of the same or similar situations. Experience is one of the best educators there is, the curriculum shared here in the respective styles of group instructors leaves a lasting impression for those who are ready to let go of their old habits and way of life. It’s not a cookie cutter program and felt very comfortable and welcomed. Since I left I’m still involved with the stuff they do in after care and alumni activities which are great ways to stay connected to a lot of people who truly are still putting in the work to stay sober and a lot of us have become close friends and hang out a few times a week. It’s not uptight like a lot of places which is very helpful in early recovery, the music aspect is great even if you don’t play any instruments, and the housing setup is great as well. The rules are pretty simple. No vaping inside (at the center) and you can’t have your phone during group lol pretty reasonable. Otherwise there’s still a sense of normalcy. Highly recommend to anyone who’s ready to make that 1st big step! I was a bit apprehensive at first and couldn’t be more grateful that I did it. I haven’t felt this good in 20 years! When it comes to healthcare and seeing doctors, some are good, some are bad. Well, I experienced the good side of service. Yesterday, at Virginia Hospital Center, I had an in-and-out procedure, and from the time I walked in until the time I left, every individual that came across my path was pleasant, and I enjoyed my experience while I was there. My doctor was amazing. From the anesthesiologists to the nurses, everyone was pleasant. The front desk lady at check-in was also awesome. Sandstone’s whole of person concept of care was everything our family needed. The program provided a personal therapist for our teen; along with twice a day group therapy sessions; pet therapy; nature walks; and fun group outings. They also provided us a family therapist and offered voluntary group therapy sessions for all the parents who currently had teens in the program, which was a great resource and helped my husband and I feel less alone. From the intake to the out processing, my teen reported feeling safe and well cared for and my husband and I shared that sentiment. We were a little nervous going in because of the online reviews, but if your family is struggling with a teen with addiction, we highly recommend this place. Our teen did say that the food was terrible, but I’d rather the food be terrible and the program be excellent than the other way around. Other than that I can not speak for the program after Mrs. Carissa left. When I was there it was tough but it is what i needed. I have never been to a program that actually cared and literally internally got to me dug up some buried issues and I worked on them. Mrs. MELVINA was my counselor, she was amazing. Most of the staff had went through addiction. Mrs Denise was amazzziiinnggg i never felt uncomfortable, leaving my son with them during the day. The whole staff at that time was amazing. Yes, it was very strict, but they did it in a loving way because they did not want us to die. I know countless women That graduated the Chrysalis House and are still clean. I have ten fifteen, close lifelong friends that I had met at Chrysalis and that are still clean to this day. I have never went to a treatment that had this much success. Like I said, I cannot speak for the new staff, but it sounds like it is still a great program.While I was there and before I left, they were building on the new addition which was beautiful.It was finished before I left but was not open yet. A woman and children's program is needed and I hope that this one is ran as good as it was when I was there.I'm sure it is. I felt so safe with my children. I had been discharged prematurely and without proper treatment by the AAMC ED twice, BWMC ED twice, and Harbor Hospital ED once, even with a ongoing case file from police and Crisis Response, as well as a petition for treatment by an Officer. I was exhausted, sick, diagnosed with ketoacidosis from lack of nutrition and just wanted genuine clinical answers/help and not discrimination. The lovely receptionist immediately treated me with kindness and sympathy when I walked in with my bags, taking them and I back to a room immediately. Dr. Julie Seaman was able to evaluate and prescribe medication for my situation, and for the first time in years, I feel as though I have been prescribed the proper medication regimen for my Bipolar 1. With this care and reassurance, I was able to gather myself and regain control of the situation. Thank you for all you do here at Arundel Lodge. Kindness and compassion goes a long, long way!
