I spent over seven months here receiving treatment in their RRTP program. I’ve been to numerous programs and facilities. This is by far the greatest facilities, program, and staff that I have encountered in the VA system. This is probably one of the best VA’s and programs in the nation.

As a spouse of veteran with his power of attorney, representative, and caretaker, I was thankful to receive information years ago regarding my spouse demanding me to come home, calling my phone sometimes 60 to 70 times every time I left home, with excuse he had multiple VA appointments and that I was preventing him from tending to by having car. One time I drove straight to VA with POA to learn he had no appointments - and many prior times were excuses as well. Somebody informed him of me being at the VA, leading to him thinking I was sleeping with someone there ( no ). I spoke with pharmacist regarding meds he was put on then quicky taken off Prozac and started acting bipolar, borderline schizophrenic when doing marijuana and drugs, wanting me to join in then thinking I'm a bore cause I wouldn't, put it in my food anyway then make fun of how I act. They said there is nothing in his chart that is wrong with him - nothing to make him abuse, grape, or be evil. Its just who he is. After raising a type 1 diabetic that would hit, kick, scream, and abuse me too during her sugar rages, I realized I never retaliated despite ups and downs in my life, and my veteran spouse and type 1 do not act that to others. I was thankful for the clarity as I have for years, and would have continued giving grace forever for bad behavior. I am not the military person, not veteran - I am a spouse caretaker thankful they helped me with information provided.

I went to rehab and outpatient counseling at Fellowship House. They were a safe haven for me for two years. The staff was welcoming, kind and encouraging. I was always greeted at the door with a smile from Ms. Sondra. The counselors celebrated my victories with me, supported me through my defeats and helped me to believe in myself. So I was an Xray tech in the SE ER in the 90s before I became disabled & I have a very good understanding of medical ethics. I lost a kidney in 2000 to renal cancer. In 2006, the nephrectomy scar on my right side herniated, involving my liver. I was hospitalized and surgeon Dr Joseph McCadams was called in. Laparoscopic hernia surgery was scheduled for July 2006 on a Friday, by Sunday post op, my right side was swelling and turning red. I was refused an appointment when I called his office the next day & ended up in the ER the next day. They called him and he instructed them to send me home, that I was fine. I called his office the next day, and again was refused an appointment, being told I would have to wait for the post op appointment already set for the following week. The pain was becoming unbearable & I started running a fever so I went back to the ER & was admitted, Dr McCadams later appeared in my room in the ER, angry that I’d been admitted and telling me not to expect any drugs from him. He came to my doorway in the hospital each morning, mocking me for crying in pain. He gave me no fluids & insufficient antibiotics, I felt so alone and scared. Post op patients are so vulnerable, and to be verbally abused and mocked by the very person who did this to me was life altering. I ended up leaving ama & had my elderly parents drive me to St. Louis, to SLU ER where I was quickly surrounded by people, admitted and scheduled for emergency surgery the next morning. I spent the night with 4 IV machines trying to rehydrate me and pumping me full of antibiotics. I was at SLU for nearly a month after that, my surgeon told he had not expected me to live & that the care I had experienced under Dr McCadams care was very poor. The infection damaged my pancreas, leaving me with chronic pancreatitis for 5 years and even now, I live with pancreatic insufficiency. I have severe right side muscle damage and use a walker if I have to walk very far. I did report him to the state medical board once I recovered enough from the resulting PTSD but it was likely too late, many years had passed by then. I can’t recommend this person at all, he can be quite abusive to vulnerable patients. I had left my review on Dr McCadams Google reviews many years ago but when he moved to Mercy from the clinic, he had his Google reviews turned off, effectly deleting all the bad reviews, including mine. That's why I'm putting it here on the hospital page, I don't want anyone to suffer the way I did from his abuse. Be safe out there.

The doctors in the Emergency Room were wonderful with helping my brother and he had a sitter named Jacob that was AMAZING and he deserves the biggest raise! He kept him from falling and also talked to him. I would recommend having Jacob look after a loved one any day or night. He is caring and does his job so well!

This is my first time posting a review however, I want to say state the following; I was having major medical problems ; Mercy you did an awesome job treating me from the ER and also the following two days after admitting me. Your entire staff not only resolved my immediate issues following through with necessary testing as well as making me comfortable, keeping me informed, meeting each and every need in an efficiency and doing so treating me with utmost respect with dignity seldom experienced in our healthcare today. I enjoy working with my Psychiatrist and Therapist. They are warm and welcoming. I did not feel judge or uncomfortable speaking to them. My only complaint was having to wait a year to start seeing the Therapist, however I was able to start seeing my Psychiatrist right away. Also I use the pharmacy at the CCC, Genoa. The keep track of my prescriptions and will refill them when needed and let me know they are ready to pick up. I never have to work about running out if I forget to get the refill.
