As a first-gen immigrant and caregiver, I was nervous seeking help, but Gateway Foundation Carbondale felt safe. Their outpatient program really worked for my busy life. I liked how respectful and discreet the staff were, though I wish there were more language options for people like my parents. Some parts felt a little short-staffed, but I still felt cared for. They also included my family in education which meant so much. I'm grateful, finally feel like myself again.

Wonderful place to find your sobriety!! The counselors and nurses are absolutely amazing! The faculty are the kindest! Amazing food and a beautiful campus!

My new psychiatrist is very good. Have only seen her once but I can tell. I've had good luck here in the past but during the pandemic had to see other ones that weren't so good. I'm seeing a lady named Amanda now and she seems wonderful. Compass bought Comtrea which was my old Health Network. Compass doesn't believe in prescribing benzos. I haven't been back since I found that out.

I've been going there for 7 years for various things always had a good visit it's right off the interstate they have a food bank on site but you can receive Food once a month the volunteers at the front desk are great everybody willing to help I really enjoy this VA

Returning home from the hospital, I was initially expected to stay until next week, awaiting the culture results. However, an agreement was reached to continue antibiotic treatment at home, with adjustments as needed upon receiving the culture results. Notably, the civilian hospital in southern Illinois provides exceptional care to veterans, complementing the outstanding services offered by the VA hospital in Marion, IL. I extend my gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff for their excellent care.

Best VA facility around, especially the ER. Constant attention paid to patient.

I'm satisfied with the services and the support they gave me. I also like how they always did their best to help everyone to get better. You guys are top notch.

Parking out front is crowded. Front desk is helpful. Layout can be challenging as will all hospitals that have grown and done multiple expansions. Care seems to be pretty good. I haven't heard many complaints or praises. Patients seem to be "content."

I was an Xray tech in the SE ER in the 90s before I became disabled, I then lost a kidney in 2000 to renal cancer. In 2006, the nephrectomy scar on my right side herniated, involving my liver. I was hospitalized and surgeon Dr Joseph McCadams was called in. Laparoscopic hernia surgery was scheduled for July 2006 on a Friday, by Sunday post op, my right side was swelling and turning red. I was refused an appointment when I called his office the next day & ended up in the ER the next day. They called him and he instructed them to send me home, that I was fine. I called his office the next day, and again was refused an appointment, being told I would have to wait for the post op appointment already set for the following week. The pain was becoming unbearable & I started running a fever so I went back to the ER & was admitted, Dr McCadams later appeared in my room in the ER, angry that I’d been admitted and telling me not to expect any drugs from him. He came to my doorway in the hospital each morning, mocking me for crying in pain. He gave me no fluids & insufficient antibiotics, I felt so alone and scared. Post op patients are so vulnerable, and to be verbally abused and mocked by the very person who did this to me was life altering. I ended up leaving ama & had my elderly parents drive me to St. Louis, to SLU ER where I was quickly surrounded by people, admitted and scheduled for emergency surgery the next morning. I spent the night with 4 IV machines trying to rehydrate me and pumping me full of antibiotics. I was at SLU for nearly a month after that, my surgeon told he had not expected me to live & that the care I had experienced under Dr McCadams care was very poor. The infection damaged my pancreas, leaving me with chronic pancreatitis for 5 years and even now, I live with pancreatic insufficiency. I have severe right side muscle damage and use a walker if I have to walk very far. I did report him to the state medical board once I recovered enough from the resulting PTSD but it was likely too late, many years had passed by then. I can’t recommend this person at all, he can be quite abusive to vulnerable patients. I had left my review on Dr McCadams Google reviews many years ago but when he moved to Mercy from the clinic, he had his Google reviews turned off, effectly deleting all the bad reviews, including mine. That's why I'm putting it here on the hospital page, I don't want anyone to suffer the way I did from his abuse. Be safe out there

I honestly couldn't be more grateful, so much care is given and very helpful resources are offered, so much support and guidance, it's been the best support system I have, I'm just really grateful because of them, I'm managing my life better because of them, they're becoming more of a reason for me to keep going and not give up, they're giving me purpose in life again

Initially you have a long wait but once your a patient there its not so bad and they help you alot with all kinds of resources
