This is the only VAMC that I have dealt with, so can make no comparisons. The treat me well and with an amazing amount of respect and thanks for my service. I have no issues with the care afforded me, but it has been checkups and need refills.
The facility got infamous a few years back when a deviant staff member killed a few patients with insulin. What bothers me, is that a gentleman in our church who got admitted there a few years later was also given insulin inappropriately, with adverse results. I'm real disappointed that they didn't seem to improve their medication safety from the first case. So... Be careful if you are admitted there, ask about any medication they give you... Which actually should be done at all hospitals.
Hopefully you can just stay healthy.

This place has had some of the best fist fights I’ve ever seen! You can watch some entertaining things while waiting to dose. Then if you need a little extra kick you find it right out in the parking lot! Good times, good times! What a great community resource. Staff (administration and clinical) are attentive, compassionate and really embrace community service models. Case management for when you have children with complex medical histories has proven to be an great foundation for care. I recommend for any parent whose child needs general counseling. Today, I had the enjoyable experience of meeting Adam & his friend outside the Ravenswood WV Food Fair. I believe in this program & pray more locations will open. Addiction is at epidemic levels. Many need help or a voice that says, "I care about you". I do care about all of you & you can be reassured that God does too. The enemy comes to steal, kill & destroy. The youth are in his cross hairs. You're a target because you're a threat. You need to know how valuable you are. We all should do anything we can to help this organization. In response to the other comments, would you rather your loved one be either dead or homeless on the streets due to addiction? Can't comprehend anyone that is negative or has anything bad to say about a program that's saving lives. You should be grateful. I'm beyond thankful for this program. I’ve been visiting this place a few times now, and I must say, I genuinely enjoy my time here. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Robert for therapy, and he’s someone I can definitely connect with on a friendly level. He’s incredibly helpful in guiding me through my thoughts and situations, providing me with a clear mind without influencing my decisions. The phlebotomist at the Lynchburg CBOC is the best in her business. She is one of the most friendly medical professionals I have ever met. She turns something that could be stressful into a pleasant experience. When I go to have blood drawn, I am always relieved when she comes out and calls my name. I know right then the job will be done right. She is the best. The clinic gets a negative 1 star for ability to contact by telephone. The care I have received here is great. I also have used the community access program for Med Express which has worked well. I cancelled an appointment for my annual physical in March and they cancelled twice since then, So my appointment has been pushed to the end of June. They must have staffing issues.

These people saved me! From the doctors, nurses, and counselors. To even the office manager and receptionist. These people really care! They don’t treat you like less of a person because of your “situation” they are respectful and professional. Honestly, if more treatment centers would follow the lead of this one. I probably would have gotten help 10 years ago. If you are 110 percent serious about getting help. And you choose to go the maintenance route. This is the place! I never would have made it if the staff wasn’t as supportive as they are. So thank you to everyone there! They listened to me when absolutely no body else would! They didn’t judge me when absolutely everyone else did! they were kind to me, when no one else was! And they had faith in me, when even I had no faith in myself!

Please read the whole review, I know it’s long, but there’s important stuff that really might help you out if you’re thinking about becoming a patient. Always keep in mind however, that you get out of it what you put into it. The counselors there are wonderful, especially Amber. She has advocated for me, she helped me get Medicaid so my medicine is free now which is amazing. She always tells me how proud she is of me and reminds me how much progress I’ve made when I’m starting to feel like I’m screwing up, sometimes you just need to hear that. I know that I can always depend on her. My first counselor was Dan he was wonderful, but I just thought that I would benefit more from having a female counselor. I also know that Ray is wonderful, but any of the counselors would be more than happy to help you if you can’t find yours. The only problems I have with this place are how difficult it is to get them on the phone sometimes, also one of the nurses is kind of rude, I understand that it is a difficult job however. The rest of the nurses are very kind especially April! Also Treva The nursing coordinator is an absolute nightmare. She was rude to me from the second I walked into that building. She for some reason has a personal issue with me and makes it known. That is so unprofessional you’re supposed to keep your opinions outside the door. That kind of stuff will send people back out and then they die. Other than that it’s great! The front desk lady is wonderful, the Director is absolutely wonderful, I enjoy the group Therapy, and if you’re doing the right thing and passing your drug test, you will phase up very quickly there. I’m already to two weeks, whereas at another clinic it probably would’ve taken me A year or even longer to get to that point. There was a time that I never thought I would even get a single take home and I’m already to two weeks! So thank you new river comprehensive treatment center. If it weren’t for you I would probably be dead, not only that but my mental health has improved drastically since I started there. One more person I would like to mention is Diana who does the Medicaid and financial stuff (I think)she is also extremely helpful and kind if you ever need help with anything.
