The podiatrist at Trinka David Clinic listened to my concerns and set me up for further testing. It turns out that I had a fractured bone and a torn tendon (that I ended up losing due to the 5 year wait) and received surgery as soon as it was possible (I had to wait another year due to COVID-19). I have never been arrested and I figured it would be really hard to be a dad while in active addiction. That was in 2001. I've moved around to different places, Gadsden, Trussville, Tuscaloosa and others. I really loved the people in Tuscaloosa and hated leaving. I had to return to the Oxford area, to help with my mom who was terminal with cancer. When I transferred back to Oxford they were great. I loved the staff. At one point they were down to a skeleton crew, they did the best they could at the time with what they had. They have gotten more staff now and they are wonderful. I don't feel like my number so much. Yes, they are strict on the rules but look at what they deal with. I can manipulate just about anyone as an active addict. We all have that power. I am NOT one of them! This facility is well laid out, and the staff is efficient and helpful. I had one glitch with their optometry department, but otherwise, no issues in 2+ years of going here. What they cannot do, they refer out for Community Care, or suggest the Birmingham VA. Despite Birmingham being nearly 2 hours each way, it’s been worth the trip each of the 2 times I went there. Unless I move, I will continue to go to this clinic, and I’ll recommend it. I appreciate the staff there each time I visit. Wingate were the best people & care I have received military or civilian that I can even remember. My anxiety was in full blown mode and April made me feel so understood and she was such a comfort. And B. Wingate made me feel heard and understood and set up all test, meds and referrals that were needed. I feel extremely bless to have had these two taking care of me and can not stress enough how quick , efficient and KIND they both were. The ladies at the front desk were beyond helpful as well getting my future appointments schedule before I left. I have nothing but good things to say for Oxford VA Clinic! Full disclosure: I am a RMC employee. That said, I was triaged promptly and was taken to the back in a reasonable time. The ER got very busy after I arrived and there were folks in the ER much sicker than I was so I had to wait a little while. No problem. The lab tests and x-ray studies were done promptly and the ER doctor and nurses kept me informed along the way. About 6 hours from triage to discharge. I’m not sure how I could improve on the service I received. Well done RMC. Also: the new “app” to help keep patients and family informed is great!
