My experience at Atlanta Center for Mental Health was honestly better than I expected. I came in feeling completely overwhelmed and unsure if anything would actually help, but the staff really took the time to meet me where I was at. My therapist was thoughtful, patient, and actually listened, which made it easier to open up as time went on. The environment felt supportive and structured without being overwhelming. It wasn’t always easy, but I left feeling more stable, with real coping tools I still use. I’m genuinely grateful for the care I received here.

In terms of my stay here I signed myself in based on a previous very positive stay there, while this stay was not exactly the same and I did struggle somewhat to get my needs met in the time that I needed them met in the end of the day I did get them met, I met some great people and some not so great people including techs and nurses, i unfortunately have found that a lot of staff need sensitivity training with them being quite rude and nasty acting like we not in the hospital to get help like we’re also being paid to be there, it is frustrating when it’s very very obvious that people just don’t want to work there and act like they’re also locked up THAT BEING SAID when it came down to the ACTUAL violations that took place between be and a staff I was able to access very quick care through the patient advocate and CEO and was able to get the issue handled pretty immediately which is a very very good experience fo have for a hospital like this, the food be good too! TO EVERYONE READING THESE REVIEWS! If you are scared for yourself or your child’s experience there either remember or remind them this: Riverwoods is a place that is full of pain and a lot of trauma but it also filled with a lot of joy, remember on your first day (including intake) it will be hard and scary and frustrating as hell but you’ll get through it, if you need to cry then cry if you need to sit in a cornor and be silent do that. The second day will be easier you will start to understand the way of the unit you will start to learn what staff are cool and which aren’t and you’ll learn which people are not necessarily cool to be around and you’ll find a certain person who just don’t seem to friendly but you will identify cool people, and if you can gather the strength on the third day to find your people and find the joy that is in the hospyou WILL be okay, DO NOT LET THE OTHER PEOPLES ENERGY RUIN YOUR STAY! You are not there because you are the same as the person sitting next to you but you are there to find a way to relate to each other and support each other, don’t be a mean girl mind your Ps & Qs focusing on getting out will only make it harder focus on getting better not out focus on finding the light that DOES shine in the darkness. Riverwoods was the greatest gift I’ve ever been given twice! (shoutout Miss ruby, Miss Jay and Miss Day, Miss Abina, Nurse Lisa and Miss Ale and Mr Xion, Emma g from intake and the scheduling lady and Cheryl? Is her name I think the case worker, and Monica at reception, and Dr dennis o Brien and his Nurse practitioner and Terrell and the other therapist lady and the rec therapist guy that looks like Michael b Jordan, both Malik’s and even sleepy ((he knows who he is))Mimi Nd chef and all the kitchen staff, Enrique, the kitchen, Dana the dietitian and all the cleaning staff and maintenance staff) all those people are people you should look out for they’re the ones that care and I’m sorry to all yall if I forgot you but you will find them all on your own

I had a relatively ok experience here… I was sent here from another city on a 1013 hold because they had space for me when the closer facilities were full… I didn’t like sitting in a room for several hours before being taken to the unit… I was on the legacy unit which seems to be praised as the best unit and calmer unit and it was for the most part… I loved some of the techs, social worker, and the group therapist… i benefited from groups the most… what I didn’t like was there was one violent patient that attacked several patients and staff which made my anxiety worse but the staff made sure to ensure me I was safe and eventually had the patient removed… after that I had no issues other than I felt I was released before I should have been but I managed and it felt kind of prison like but having a set structured schedule through out the day is good as opposed to being allowed to sit and color all day… I didn’t like that the rooms were locked all day and my first day there I just wanted to sleep because I hadn’t slept for two days prior and I had a headache but was forced to stay out the room due to having to have a Dr’s order for everything… overall I had a decent experience and if necessary I’d request return here if my local facility is full…

I was so afraid of coming here because of the reviews. & to be honest the intake process was HORRIBLE. I mean they cause me more anxiety than I came there with. BUT I have to shout out the outpatient program. Especially Ms. Janet. She has been a great leader and counselor and has helped me so much in this journey with my mental health. I’ve connected with a lot of people here and I am so thankful that I gave this place a chance. I do believe they need better systems in place. I know this isn’t an easy or rewarding job most of the time and they are short staffed. But a lot of people do have some good intentions here

Georgia Addiction Center played a huge role in helping me turn things around. From the beginning, I felt supported by staff who were both compassionate and straightforward, which I needed. The program is well-structured and keeps you accountable, but it never feels cold or impersonal. Group sessions could be challenging at times, but they ended up being some of the most impactful parts of my experience. I built a strong foundation for recovery here and left feeling more confident in my ability to stay on track. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone serious about making a real change.

I went here when I was a minor, and it helped me. I was an inpatient, then I transitioned to their day program. The inpatient program was a solid 9/10. The food was good, most of the staff were good. There were a few staff members who went above and beyond to be kind. When I was younger and different than how I am now, I went to several facilities overall. The staff at most of those other facilities were burnt out, negative, and clearly didnt like their job. The staff at Hillside were more positive. Hillside had some good food. I'm not sure why there are reviews saying the food was bad. It was warm, balanced, and they had chocolate milk. They have some sort of a vegetarian option too. There were activities that were done outside. That is a huge deal. In the 3 other non-acute inpatient facilities I've been to, 2 of them had a small outside area encircled within the building where we were allowed to stay during a decent period of time once per day. The 1 other facility had a large outside area also encircled within the building, and we were allowed to be there a decent amount of time as well. But while being inside Hillsides inpatient program, we got to be outside MANY times a day. And the outside area is outside of the 'cabin'. Meaning I could actually see a long distance outside and walk(under supervision) around area more than 40x40ft without meeting a wall. Hillside doesn't have that boxed in feeling. The sweet gardening lady made us icedtea, and I got to pick flowers and actually be outside in a space that wasnt boxed in . Also, Hillside has the least amount of fighting and dangerous bahavior amoung my past peers that I've seen. Fights started at all of the other inpatient non-acute facilities, and there was a lot more yelling and screaming in those places. Though most of those places had a lot more patients in one room. Overall, I'd consider Hillside to be a safer facility, with more supervision. Hillside, when I was a patient, alllowed in-person visits from family. Though I don't remember the details. No other place I have even been to had that privledge. Hillside also gave us access to VIDEO calls with family. NO other place I have ever been to has given me that privledge. It was corded phone calls only, and at least one of the places I previously went to didn't allow any sort of calls at all. Changing from inpatient to outpatient - The outpatient experience at Hillside was amazing. All the staff in the outpatient program were incredible kind, helpful, and understanding. It was a very calming environment. Overall, don't believe a lot of the reviews here. Serious Mental Health Treatment isn't going to feel happy or nice in the process. Hillside is a much better choice of inpatient treatment compared to anything else I have ever experienced. For me, I just needed something to guide me in the right direction, and Hillside did that for me.

And they also take health insurance and offer a new health insurance called ambetter that will cover all costs as well so reach out if you need to and make a change start it today. Dr. Ruby Wallace does an exceptional job teaching Family Violence Classes. She is incredibly knowledgeable, highly educated, and it truly shows in the way she teaches and interacts with her students. What sets her apart is her ability to make people feel comfortable, understood, and safe enough to be vulnerable without fear of judgment. She has a rare gift for balancing education, accountability, compassion, and relatability all at once. Her classes are not only informative, but genuinely impactful. You can tell she truly cares about helping people grow, heal, and better understand themselves and others. I would highly recommend Dr. Wallace to anyone required to take these classes or anyone seeking an instructor who is both professional and deeply compassionate.

I was at this program when it first hit ground in 2000 in Stone Mountain/Clarkston Ga. Right Side Up was the best thing that happened to me. I wasn’t able to bring all 5 of my kids my 2 oldest was with my dad and Aunt. I was able to bond with them every other weekend. Right Side Up taught me A lot about my addiction. I had been struggling with crack cocaine for 14 years, I’m so grateful for this program because I would not be who I am today and that’s Free From Drugs and Alcohol. I have not heard from anyone since I completed the program. I do hope all is well.

Anchor Hospital is a rehab in Atlanta, Georgia, that’s also a psychiatric treatment center. This can be perfect for people with both addiction and a mental illness because this rehab can treat both. I recently stayed on the Acute Women's Unit at Anchor, and I am incredibly grateful for the care I received during one of the hardest times in my life. I came to Anchor to have my medications adjusted, heal from past trauma, process the death of my NA sponsor, and continue my recovery from an eating disorder. As a person of faith, it meant a lot to me that gospel music was played on the unit. It brought comfort and peace during a difficult season. I especially want to recognize Laura and Silver, who were by far the best techs on the unit. Their kindness, compassion, patience, and genuine concern for patients made a huge difference in my recovery. I also appreciated the support from the other Lauras on the unit—there are three of them, and each contributed to making the environment feel more caring and supportive. The all-women's unit was exactly what I needed. Because I was experiencing significant mania at the time, being in a women's-only environment helped me feel safer and more focused on healing. Most importantly, the team at Anchor was able to figure out my medications and get me stabilized again. I had previously struggled to find the right medication balance elsewhere, and Anchor succeeded where other facilities had not. One thing I would recommend is that patients with food allergies or dietary restrictions be prepared to advocate for themselves to ensure their needs are met. Overall, Anchor helped me through a crisis and gave me the opportunity to begin healing. I am thankful for the staff, especially Laura and Silver, and for the care I received during my stay.

I just wanna start off by saying Ms. Laura, Ms. Sherry, Mr. Emmanuel, Ms. Vorona, and Ms. Kimberley- basically all the techs over the compass unit were so nice and compassionate. They deserve all the kudos for their job well done. This was my first time having to do inpatient as an adult and it made me feel relieved that I seeked help. All wonderful and loving people who want to see the best in you. The food was above expectations for a mental institution, actual hot and filling meals. The group therapy sessions by Ms. Racquel and Ms. K were awesome and very well oriented. I was treated as a normal person, not someone with a myriad of issues. My social worker, Ms. Jasmine, handled me and a whole lot with the same tenderness and firm care even when she was overbooked with patients. The nurses, Ms. Unique and Ms. Karla(or karly ?) were speedy and careful, two things you don’t get at once with many nurses. They were careful and detail oriented when explaining medicines. All the love and support in the world for the week I spent there, and if I have another crisis I won’t be afraid to go back. Thank you guys!!
