Pierceton, IN | Families and individuals who are struggling with the negative impacts of substance addiction can get the help they need in Pierceton, Indiana, at the Bowen Center. Treatment plans are customized based on your needs, and you can enroll in different programs at different times based on your recovery journey. Both adults and adolescents are treated at | Treatments Programs Payment Options | As someone who recently was discharged from the hospital, this is by far the best facility I’ve been to. I like the fact that you have to wear scrubs. So you don’t have to worry about having someone drop off clothes. The nurses and tech are super helpful and friendly. Their food is better than most hospital foods. They offer helpful groups which was one thing I liked. Because other facilities the groups are not reliable. These groups are almost DBT related. The doctors listen and won’t discharge you unless the doctor thinks you’re ready.

🌟 An Ode to Transcendent Rebirth 🌟
From the abyss of despondency, a spirit did soar,
Where existential dread pounded upon the core.
A mind, once besieged by the shadow's dark plight,
Teetered on the precipice, obscured from the light.
In Bowen's sanctuary, a haven defined,
Compassion's soft balm for the troubled mind.
A cohort of souls, with altruistic intent,
Their sustenance offered, divinely sent.
I stand now, profoundly indebted, and justly obliged,
To the palliative kindness that was not disguised.
For the solace bestowed, the support unreserved,
A future sanguine, magnificently preserved.
Within that renowned CRSS domain,
A nexus of healing, where hope took its reign.
It fostered a shift, from the noxious to the bright,
A metanoia blooming, reclaiming the light.
My mindset now flourishes, robust and serene,
The suicidal chasm is an old, bygone scene.
I celebrate this apotheosis, this grand, fructuous turn,
A perseverance shown, a lesson to learn.

First time in any rehab, was very skeptical since I knew I was going to be going through severe withdrawals, they gave me medications to ease the symptoms and adjusted medications as the days went on. Better yet is that the staff is very well trained and understanding that you will be going through this process and may be short tempered and others are too. I am coming out completely stable and ready for this new life that was given to me in the last 28 days. For aftercare they set all that up so you just need to set up your appointment time with your provider. I hope I never need to come back to a rehabilitation facility, but I know Avenues is there if I need them

That said…the parking lot is currently giving “extreme sports obstacle course.” The potholes are not subtle. You don’t just park here, you navigate it. If you hear a loud thud on your way in, just know it’s not construction, it’s your suspension filing a complaint.
Fix the potholes and this place would be pretty close to perfect. Until then, consider it part of the full experience — just drive in like you value your tires.

My husband and I love it here! Our intake day was our first great experience. Both of us had to do intake and they stop taking intakes at 10:00, we walked in at 9:57-9:58 and they still took us! I tried getting in with Bowen the day before and they wouldn’t take me, they said I had to schedule an appointment and it would be another week, but BHG was my saving grace! They want to help. Everybody is always friendly and caring as well.
Tom at the office (and there’s another girl that does it, she has glasses and I think her name is Alexis? If not I apologize! 😅) but both of them are always In a good mood and willing to help and answer any questions you have. Tom also has memorized ( I think he said 70-80% of everybody’s number) which is beyond impressive! I got sick one day before they opened and Tom and the director (the first door by all the chairs) came and checked on me and asked if I need them to call anybody, they waited to open the clinic until I was ok (keep in mind there was a line).
The counselors are also great and very understanding! If you work with them and tell them your situations and schedules they will do what they can to work with you. I got a few of my counseling sessions switched to phone calls because my husband has work early in the mornings and we don’t have much time to do anything when we come. My counselors name is Mariah and she is very nice and caring. Very easy to talk to as well! Also, she’s veryyyy stylish ! 😎 always coming in with a different hair style and she can pull off any outfit (I am beyond jealous!) and she’s got the sassy walk to pull it all off! 😂😂
I also gotta give Kari a good word, she’s another counselor here. When my husband and I couldn’t come at the designated group times she went out of her way to do a private group with just me and him. She also did it quickly since, like I said, we don’t have much time in the mornings. Like I said, if you work with them and tell them what’s going on, they will work with you.
I gotta give it to the nurses as well, we have three of them and they’re all wonderful. When I got sick that one morning, Angel, came and checked on me and got me a bag, I was very appreciative of her. All three of them are very friendly, caring and compassionate. You can tell they really do care, and they take the time to great you and ask you how you’re doing. If they’re not busy they might strike up a conversation. I could tell any of these ladies anything and I wouldn’t feel any judgment.
Lastly I gotta say a good word about Robert! He’s our security guard/muscle of the building. He’s a very good person, he’ll strike up a conversation with anybody and about anything. He also remembers you! They see so many people and here, the staff does remember you. He’s a very nice, down to earth guy, but he will step in when and if he has to, he cares about his people and doesn’t like when somebody creates a problem. He also got me a paper from the front desk once that I was very thankful for!
This place has definitely cleaned up BIG TIME. I wasn’t here when it was on Wells street but I’ve heard the talk and it has done a full 360, plus some. The nurses keep a very close eye on the line and if you try cutting, or causing a problem when somebody gets back in their spot in line, they will say something. They don’t want to get confused so they like their line how it’s supposed to be! Also, they don’t want you to have to wait if that truly is your spot! The people that come here are awesome, everybody helps keep an eye on things and most people are good people here. I 100% would recommend BHG recovery over Bowen, or Marion, to anybody looking to get sober.

Amazing place as far as people go. Would have gave them five Stars but their hours are ridiculous especially on Saturdays when when they close at 9:30 and they only have one lady working or they have urinalysis on Saturdays when they're only open for 4 hours a lot of times on Saturday the line is out the door and sometimes almost to the back of the parking lot which is a line of about 200 ft and you're standing out there in the elements for an hour sometimes, below zero it's not very pleasant. Other than that the staff get five stars nurses front office and counselors and the doc is great too.

I came in to have my daughter evaluated for Inpatient or Intensive Outpatient due to dangerous drug usage. A white female employee with long dark hair and glasses met with us and told me they didn't take anyone under 18 for Inpatient and to take my daughter to Parkview ER just down the road and request they have her evaluated for drug rehabilitation. She described the setting that my daughter would be in for the Parkview Inpatient program. Also, she added that if I didn't take my daughter to the ER and have her evaluated, she would call DCS and report me. We went to the ER, they admitted my daughter, and we spent roughly an hour there only to be put on a Zoom call with the inpatient facility and asked two questions: 1.) Are you suicidal? My daughter answered no 2.) What are you looking for? I responded with drug rehabilitation. Then the woman stated they don't do drug rehabilitation. We returned to Northeastern, and the same female employee took us back into her mess of an office. I told her that they didn't offer drug rehabilitation, and I wasn't sure why we just went there. She responded with, “Because that was my recommendation.” She then informed us that my daughter didn't qualify for outpatient services as she was already seeing a therapist. I then asked her if we were done here, and she proceeded to escort us back to the front entry area rudely. I can't state how 100% unequivocally useless this place was.

I have been going to Oaklawn now for about 7 years, when I first decided to start I was at my lowest of lows, the only time in my life I felt I was going to act on my suicidal thoughts. I had never been as depressed as I was in those few months and I have delt with depression almost my entire life. I really didn’t believe I could be helped, but I tried for my children’s sake as my oldest son had already lost his father to reckless decisions.
Brandy saved my life, she has continuously encouraged me and never judged me even when most would have. She has not only been one of the best phycologists I have ever met, she has also been a good friend. She has helped to guide me in the right direction and been there through every up and every down I’ve had over this past 7 years, despite my many screw ups she has never made me feel as though I was just a mess, she really saved my life, I can not stress this enough.
If you do the work on yourself and actually use the program and take the advice given, this place can and will help. You also have to be patient and understand you are not the only client being worked with.

Good place to get help but beware of the groups they force you to talk about issues and then the groups are supposed to be confidential no they are not.my medication doctor sent a referral over about individual therapy which was for a female but instead set me up with a male.my medication doctor stopped communicating and listening to me and chose to listen and communicate with my behavior staff who I see once a week.i like Dr. Soleai but I am the patient not the behavior staff.

A very good place to receive low-cost mental healthcare.
If you need help, I can honestly urge you to give them a chance. You deserve the chance.
I'm pleased to say that there has been many good changes at Oaklawn. I've been going here off and on in the 40+ years since I was in high school (back when it was known as Madison Center), and 99% of the psychiatrists and counselors have always been very good. Though they are not immune from their own confirmation bias. Unfortunately, even though I like most of them, frontline staff has been in the past unsympathetic and cruel.
When you're mentally ill, specifically having Major Depressive Disorder, doing anything at all can seem like an impossible task. Just getting out of bed can be terrifying and seem to have no point. And after you had to fight yourself and the world to get there, being required to fight for yourself and the respect everyone deserves, in a place where they're supposed to be there to help people with mental illnesses, is really not just inappropriate but unforgivable. Fortunately, management is approachable, and will listen. At least they have to me, and have thanked me for bringing certain issues to their attention. Even writing me a letter a week or so after we spoke.
I don't work there, and I only know the things that I've seen and experienced firsthand, but it seems like a much friendlier place to work, less sterile. Which I'm sure positively affects the frontline staffs attitudes. And though frontline staff can seem clickish, and move to defend themselves as a group when one is criticized by a patient, say by gaslighting that patient, management is aware that that is inappropriate.
In the 5 years since my previous review, I only recall one single negative experience.
================
Older Review from 2020:
A decent place for low cost psychiatric care. But the front desk staff in the Physicians floor can be extraordinary rude and unsympathetic. Especially if you mention any displeasure with Oaklawn's rules, they seem to take it as a personal insult, and really need to get a job outside of psychiatric care, because they are not suited for it. They are also discouraging when you come to make an appointment, or pick up patient assistance medications, Etc. They often don't know what they're talking about, so don't let them discourage you from what you're trying to do and insist that they pass on messages to the people and doctors you are trying to contact.
