Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment IAM helped me find my strength again. I came in lost, not knowing where to start, and left feeling clear and steady. The care was real, the people were kind, and the change felt deep. I’ll always be grateful for what they did for me.

I came in feeling totally lost, like nothing could pull me out of the mess I was in. But from day one, these folks really made me feel seen. They weren’t just checking boxes—they were listening, guiding, and helping me take real steps forward. What stood out most was how they didn’t try to rush the process. I never felt pressured, just supported. They gave me the space and tools to start figuring things out, one day at a time.

I was seen at St Luke’s Hospital by attending physician Dr David Dierks for nausea related to my right knee replacement. I found Dr Dierks to be very professional and compassionate and I felt very well taken care of by all the staff there, including Brenda who was the admissions nurse and Lance who also saved me yet another visit the following day. It’s so comforting to know that when it is needed to go to the ED, that St Luke’s is there to help and make you feel comfortable and confident that you will be well taken care of. Thanks St Luke’s!!!

Admittedly, this review is from a family member, rather than the patient. Also admittedly, while our loved one did voluntarily seek help, their resolve to quit drinking was questionable. Please consider that as you read this review. Alcoholism is a horrible disease. Especially when it hits someone young and is likely co-mingled with other mental health issues. Medical professionals spend a few hours during their education learning about alcoholism and in practice they become more experienced. They do care. But over time they become understandably jaded. Furthermore, family members can be all over the board as this disease rips through the family. Sometimes family members are as irrational as the patient and family dynamics can contribute to the chaos. I have tried to stay rational and in fact MUST remain rational, because any truly caring family member goes to great lengths to understand, support and go on to make some of the most difficult decisions they will ever make. Alanon teaches us that the gift of desperation is the best motivator for sobriety. And during the rare moments of lucid thoughts toward sobriety by an alcoholic, we need support and quick action by a dedicated physical and mental health system. I can't say what was happening behind the scenes, but our personal experience at Covenant was very frustrating. We waited in the ER for 7 hours and while ambulances did arrive with priority cases, the ER waiting room was essentially empty. Very often as alcoholics wait it out in the waiting room, they begin to feel they are "overcorrecting" and that detox isn't necessary and they want to leave. In the height of alcohol withdrawal, sitting hours in a waiting room is the perfect environment for second guessing the decision to go through the hell of detox. Our loved one was finally admitted but less than 36 hours later, we were shocked to learn he was being released. We begged them to reconsider, as we were fully aware of our loved ones history of hitting peak withdrawal at 48-72 hours. Thankfully, they reconsidered and held our loved one for another day. The DT's did hit just after that 48 hour mark and got progressively worse. We've been told by medical professionals in the past, that the risk of seizure is most certainly still present with severe alcoholics into the 72 hour period, but should begin to subside after that. As we neared that 72 hour mark, our loved one's behavior became so unmanageable, they escalated his level of care and his level of sedation. A few hours later, we were shocked again when they released him. Going by our past experience, he wasn't even fully detoxed. I truly believe these are caring, loving people, but they let our loved one (and us) down. If you, or a loved one is considered a "mild" alcoholic, who will experience mild withdrawal and you are committed to overcoming dependency, this place may offer the necessary help to detox. But if you are a moderate or especially a severe alcoholic, please consider another facility. I don't know where that is, but this is not it. We've been to other detox facilities and none were a pleasant experience. But I can say the others were a more comprehensive detox facility than Covenant. Candidly, I am not in the trenches of a detox facility day after day, but to me, the Doctor's seem at fault here as they evaluate and make recommendations. I'm CERTAIN there are kind, caring individuals working this department. But whatever the process is, or whoever is making treatment decision....that part of the program needs a serious overhaul. I'm trying to be reasonable as I know these are difficult waters to navigate with the healthcare system and insurance. But if experience equates to knowledge, in our experienced opinion, this hospital needs to seriously reconsider it's treatment program. Thank you. I hope this is helpful and we pray for ALL those going through this horrible disease.

I really like this clinic. I haven't had any of the issues I've seen posted. The staff are all very kind and very professional. I'm not sure if this is a factor in the very different experiences people are having, but they were purchased by a different company at some point before I started in December 2023. So maybe they have different people and policies now? I just know that I've had a great experience, and after coming from CADS in Rock Island, I needed that. Our dose is up to us because no matter the length of time it's been, some people aren't ready to be done with Methadone. For some people, it's a decision between Methadone or heroin. And that's a clear choice for me. But, ya, great experience.
