I know, I was one accept everyone was done listening by the time i went. The complaints from Alumni,,, Everything changes and at 2:30 a.m., they are asleep, leave them alone. The building isn't supposed to be comfortable. It's not the Hampton. It's a starting point for Recovery. It's a place if personal discovery, acceptance and overcoming our self-induced crises with like minded people, staffed by those who did it already. It's not for everyone, but it could be, if you want it. There will never be a perfect rehab. It's addiction treatment. The help is there, again, if you want it and will get up everyday and get it. I graduated in 2011 these reviews are sad to read that all these people never got the benefits that I did. It's most definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done the mowing acres, the "telling past trauma to your peers", sitting on the floor all of that is true but given out of context. It's extremely difficult and it's not fun at all we weren't even allowed to smile. All that being said that experience changed my life it taught me accountability I was able to get my GED as well as graduate high school with honors and it was the best thing that's ever happened to me. They don't give you a choice you have to get with the program and if you don't I guess you end up being grown and complaining about the trauma and I'm sure they're still blaming everyone for their issues. I just wanted to leave a positive review that is honest. It's hard it sucks and if you get through it you'll be better for it. Everytime we've been here they never give guest trays it's like pulling teeth even with telling the nurses, food service, writing on tickets. I wrote on every single ticket the day prior so i had food the next day and they ERASED where I asked for a guedt tray. That is horrible. Her name started with an N I think, I wish I could remember. I did like April, although some people thought she was mean. I liked the toughness of her. A little discipline can go a long way for troubled youth lol. I actually did like the school part of the day. Instead of tablets, I liked to read. I still want to finish Narnia (thank you alex you’re cool) !! I doubt anyone who sees this will remember me, and i’m not writing this for that reason anyways. I’m writing it just to close that chapter in my life. Not to be overly graphic or to dump my trauma onto google for the whole world to see, but I did go in on attempted suicide. I don’t believe that being at River Park made me any happier. In a way, it brought me closer to my life outside of the hospital. It’s like being slapped in the face with reality. When I woke up at Cabell hospital and realized where I was off to next (RPH 3E lol) I sobbed!! No phone, no piercings, no cute clothes?? How can a teen survive?!? But I did. I’m glad I did. Some of my fellow patients would call me an angel, or “memaw.” (IFYKYK) Well, I’m not an angel! I’m a 17 year old girl who was struggling really badly. I thought that maybe if I treated the patients younger than me with respect and kindness, that they maybe weren’t used to, that I could change their lives even a little bit. Onto my actual stay there, lol, I know I talk a lot! But again, this is more for me than you!! Sorry not sorry. I once asked for a staff to talk to, I was crying and missed my family a whole lot, and no one came to talk to me. That’s a major issue!!! That was my biggest complaint! And once when my family came to visit, they started around 15 minutes late. Those are my only real issues, you know? I don't see River Park as the place to come to fix all your issues, but it definitely is a start! It was great for me to be away from the toxicity of social media. I wish the place was way more energetic, way happier. I wish the staff would do a little group stretch! I led those when I was there. That was fun. More art!! Maybe even theatre related stuff? Idk i’m a nerd. So anyways, don’t think you’re sending your kid to River Park and they’re gonna come back squeaky clean. They won’t. They’re gonna smell bad, they’re gonna be sad, hurt, angry, happy, ALL the things and emotions. Just understand that your kid was in a mental facility. It’s gonna take some time to get back what was once there, or to find something that maybe never was. Just be KIND. Be understanding. Same with the staff. Imagine how scared you’d be at 11-17 in that situation. When I attempted, I didn’t think i’d ever be sitting playing Jinga with random 14 year olds. None of us ever thought we’d be in that situation. Take it easy on your patients, on your kids. Okay, okay, i’ll stop yapping now !! (if a staff is reading this who ever met me, you know how I talk lol) I’d like to thank River Park for giving me a chance to get away from my phone, to get a reset. I’d also like to thank Cabell Hospital for saving my life. I hope the next time I see someone from RPH 3E, it’s at a Walmart or something!! Or at church. Jesus loves you, I love you!!! I was a good but troubled kid and they helped me soooo much. It was literally THE BEST time of my life ! I learned discipline but respect and they gave us respect back. I'm almost 40 years old and I've been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and have been reflecting back on my life. I just remember how much fun we got to have when we earned it. Opportunities I NEVER had before or since then to be honest. I wanted to stay and make a life in Huntington and the staff and state was willing to help but my mom didn't want me to be so far away from home. I still feel somewhat cheated. JV was the best supervisor EVER! I'd love to hear from her. C3 for life LOL ! The comments on here saying, "Free Whoever" this place IS NOT a prison. Yall are waaaay over the top dramatic! I assure you the person you want "free" is having a good time lol. Not only are they learning responsibility, respect, and social skills but they're getting one on one help. Being good doesn't get you in Cammack it's for troubled kids but not serial killers. I, along with a many others had self esteem issues, lack of respect for authority, seeking attention (but in a negative way), and had already became victims of our environment by doing drugs. If you love the person you want "free" give them a chance to have a chance. No, Cammack is not to coddle your kids and if you're lucky enough to have siblings in here at the same time don't get mad because one is upstairs and one is downstairs smh they're teaching them to not be dependent on one another. At some point in life they have to separate and be THANKFUL it's in a controlled environment where they can talk through their feelings... besides upstairs and downstairs dorms are always doing things together. Oh, I lived 3 and a half hours away and a few days ago I had to be in Huntington and I passed by there. It took me back and I got emotional. I can still hear those front doors opening and closing 🥹 You're BLESSED if your kid gets put here. To the parents on here bad mouthing the staff because your disrespectful child ran their mouth (probably threatened staff too) and they said something smart back to your kid... why are you mad ?
