Beyond to help me get to the place I choose for further treatment they also got me multiple things I needed like clothes and cosmetics literature for the 12 step program I do! The groups were good. The clinical staff was very good to me and made me feel at home! Also there's tvs in the room so that was cool when I had nothing going on and the smoke breaks were just enough. And spaced very good! Place is beautiful, the staff were all really cool, programming was extremely helpful without getting preachy about the God stuff. Most importantly, a lot of the time it was a legitimately fun experience, I laughed more there than I did the entire year prior to showing up. Only gripe I have is that the food was not great when it could have been. They were clearly squeezing the budget in that department and it showed. I was overwhelmed that first day right after detox with all that happened with initially getting clean, but the staff is obviously well practiced at putting their new clients at ease. Loved the groups and their curriculum, it's clear they continually evaluate what works well and they listen to feedback. I started my 'journey' at Sisters of Providence in Holyoke, and (apart from my clinician -- who was amazing!), it felt like conveyor-belt-style care. Now, that was a 2-hour round-trip commute every morning, but Information about Spectrum (20 minutes away) was hidden from me (despite my inquiries) for months because it was a separate organization and they likely didn't want to lose me as a paycheck -- I mean patient. Spectrum is the total opposite. It has changed my life. I wasted years fearing a program, and the stigma attached. But I realized-- since I was already dealing with the stigma of having fibromyalgia and chronic pain, it made no difference, and I needed to try -- for me. I was at the Betty Ford before this, and it was absolute garbage in comparison, both in quality of care and quality of the property. Every single staff member at fernside absolutely cares about patients and the staff outnumber and patients - which is extremely rare. Betty Ford was something like four patients per staff member. Here there’s typically 3MD’s, 3-4 nurses, multiple therapists, and an amazing private chef. At fernside you have industry leading experts with resources directly from Harvard meeting as a team to diagnose, underlying health conditions, and treat various addictions. You meet with them all individually multiple times per week and they speak with each other to discuss mental health, medications, etc. It’s like the show house. They have the time to do so because there are typically 4-6 patients and a maximum of 9. If you want a full breakdown and evaluation with individualized care, this is the place for you.
