I can only hope they 1 day accept medicaid again not only for me but all the other addicts and alcoholics who cant afford insurance to 1 day be able to receive treatment in the same manor I did. The nurse Sydney is absolutely the sweetest person you'll ever meet. I went there over a year ago and and she remembered me and made sure my stay there was comfortable. Unfortunately I've stayed at quite a few other facilities and NEVER was treated with such respect and kindness that she treated me with. She deserves a raise lol! On the other hand..I made a very good friend in my time staying there..we kept in touch and we were both struggling. I was trying to be a good girlfriend and put my own health aside waiting waiting for him. I now know know that I need further assistance than just detox . He's not even. Being a decent human being/and/or being nice about it. I tried called the Sterling location 5 times where my friend is. She told me there is in IN FACT beds available but the person on the phone wasnt so friendly..almost demeaning. He said "just because there's beds available doesn't mean there's beds available". I was very confused...almost like he didn't want to help me save my life. And he was just annoyed to be answering the phone. He told me over and over in an annoyed and stern voice as I was in tears to call back at 9am. To be honest I am not even sure how we ended up with this provider, however it ended up being a true blessing. Not only was my husband taken good care of, I received several calls from his clinician to provide updates regarding his status, but also them checking on how I was doing and asking if I had any questions/concerns. I was also given their contact numbers in case I needed to reach them at any point. My family feels very fortunate that our Husband/father ended up at this facility. (because I went through that at another place…and I’m a feisty, rebellious performer, who fell all the way to hell through my addiction.) Moving Mountains is an adventure based program. And that's not just "fun." that’s a major part of the treatment…hiking, skiing, ropes course…Healthy risks…Movement. self Mastery. Making something…learning that I can DO things that make me feel better…They teach you how to deal with crap on the deepest levels, to get it out. So like…in my case…there is less to want to escape. Easier to stay sober. Joy…peace…fun. Stress: life. Tools Sobriety doesn't have to be gray and grim. It can light up your brain as much as getting high did. I mean that…kinda literally. Skydiving…for real…if you do the work…it’s part of the program. At completion. It's not a "creative arts program." BUT: creative work is an option. For me it was a key. A Big key. I had no idea how much my creative shutdown and grief were feeding my addiction…really, almost no idea. I am a singer. And I saw people transform through singing (like me…), guitar, piano, making beats, DJing, poetry, dance, voice work...even building comedy routines. You could literally see someone's eyes and posture shift over days. The staff are Actually client centered. At Moving mountains, that means you're treated like a human being. Not a diagnosis and not a compliance project. They help you remember want you want, connect you to your dreams again. They don't “punish you into right thinking.” That’s still a very common approach, I’ve heard from so many people in recovery meetings. But there are boundaries and clear expectations...because that's what actually leads to an easier, fun life. I was not the easiest client. I had to learn to be patient and respectful…not just to others. To myself. It's also not 12 step only preaching club. Super strong recovery culture...but you're allowed to explore what works for you, (there's even a Zen teacher who comes!) The housing is for real beautiful and in beautiful communities. Not "nice for rehab." Actually nice. It's weird to miss rehab. Like a paradox. But I do. My time at Moving Mountains has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I had a mid fossa craniotomy to patch a hole over my superior canal where bone did not develop. The results, even though this is day 2, are amazing. I no longer feel like dying is a better option. My vertigo is not as bad as it was. It was done by Dr. Bigelow and Dr. Moshel. The bad reviews seem to come from the ER and pedes. Just a reminder, the ER is meant to only triage bad symptoms. At odd times, sometimes there is understaffing. All the staff I've interacted with have been kind, professional, and personable, from the nurse that wiped my ass to the nurse that removed my catheter lol. There's a great selection of food.
