South Amboy, New Jersey | Recovery Centers of America is a prominent brand in addiction recovery. While they have a lot of locations throughout the East Coast and the Midwest, we’ll be focusing on the Recovery Centers of America at Raritan Bay in South Amboy, New Jersey. This rehab has two essential levels of care. There’s a residential program where you’ll live on ca | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I went to RCA three years ago, and I can honestly say they saved my life. When I arrived, I was completely consumed by my addictions and had no idea how to climb out. This place gave me the tools, structure, and support I needed to rebuild myself from the inside out.
The staff truly cares. They don’t just treat you, they teach you. I learned coping skills, accountability, and how to face life without numbing everything. They helped me understand my patterns, break them, and replace them with healthier habits. Even now, years later, I still use what I learned there.
I walked in broken and walked out with hope, clarity, and a future. If you’re struggling and you’re ready for real change, this is the place that can give you your life back. I’m forever grateful.

The great outweigh the frustrations.
The staff in the building are capable, competent, compassionate, patient, and truly wonderful! They helped me unlock so much in my recovery, and I left my 30 day treatment feeling like a truly new man. I feel like Im a version of myself that I didn’t know existed. I have such supreme admiration for the boots on the ground: Marguerite, Kelly, Sheets, and Jeff, to the case managers (shoutout Maggie), to the group leaders like Betty, Scott, Nick, Donald, Kevin, Rob, Ben, to the nursing and RSS staff, the cleaning staff, and kitchen staff. They all contributed in saving my life.
The frustrations stem from the negligence at the top levels of this company. There were several situations, and altercations that put the patients hygeine, safety, and ultimately, sobriety in jeopardy due to extreme budget cuts. The “interim ceo” peacocks around the hallways, and when directly adressed by patients with issues about patients concerns, he smugly passes the buck and ignores said issues. If it werent for these frustrations, this place could be the gold standard for recovery.
For these reasons, I give the staff a 9 out of 5, and the pencil pushers a resounding 0 out of 5.

Montville, New Jersey | New Pathway Counseling treats adolescents and adults who are struggling to beat addiction from drugs or alcohol. They’re located in Pinebrook, New Jersey. I did some digging on their site and discovered that their levels of care are limited to intensive outpatient and standard outpatient care. This is okay for those with milder forms of addiction | Treatments Programs Payment Options | New Pathway has been the best experience in my recovery. The way the program is run is different than any other iop. The counselors train you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Footprints- Hamilton County offers partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatien | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Through my recovery journey I have been to a number of treatment programs and facilities both php/iop-residential and have done well at most of them, but Footprints stands out as one of my favorites, by far, and the one I have made the most growth and progress at. I came in with a positive mindset, open to any and everything they had to offer and was able to really take advantage of it all. One thing I am most grateful for is the environment and community that grew my positive energy. Everyone from my APN, Dee, my therapist, Michael who I have learned so much from. Jose, my case manager who has always went above and beyond to facilitate any other needs I had. And for Melvin who always was a leader and ready with a smile and positivity. I always felt comfortable and connected. It was always easy for everyone and myself yo be able to engage in group settings and that is a credit to the vibe and energy of each one of the therapists who ran each session. If this is your first time coming to treatment, Footprints gets an A++ from me. Its always tough to take that first step, but they do an amazing job of walking with you the rest of the way. I did my IOP here and from day one, I felt supported, understood, and genuinely cared for. By far the best place around. If your serious about your recovery, this is the place. It’s not just all about the medication, it’s about the staff as well. My counselor, Sharece T saved my life. She goes above and beyond the call of duty and treats people as an individual, not a group, because we’re all different. She really took the time to get to know me and get to the root of the problem and checks up regularly to see if everything’s going well. I’ve been to many places, doctors, meetings and rehabs. No one has ever understood me better, witch is very important in recovery so you can be treated accordingly. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m extremely grateful and blessed for my counselor Sharece. A huge thanks to this organization and most importantly, my counselor.

Lawrenceville, New Jersey | High Focus Centers is a mental health and addiction treatment center for teenagers and adults in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. You must be at least 10 years old to participate in their t | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I can honestly and sincerely say that the intensive outpatient program at High Focus legitimately changed my life.
The science-backed, evidence-based multi-faceted program has provided me with the tools & strategies I need in my day to day life to handle intense emotions as well as process trauma in healthy and adaptive ways through anger management, emotional regulation, DBT, CBT, grounding & mindfulness techniques.
Almost every day I find myself utilizing at least one of the techniques that I was taught at High Focus, whether that is Opposite Action, distress tolerance, STOP, boxed breathing, TIPP, HALT, cope ahead statements, etc. etc.
I have truly grown, changed, improved and bettered myself as a person. The anger, outbursts, explosions, toxicity and inability to properly regulate my emotions have been replaced by properly applying the core principles if what I learned in IOP.
Its not about never making mistakes. Its not about there never being steps backwards. Its about learning from the mistakes, not making the same ones and always talking the steps forward.
I am able to do that now thanks to everything I learned at High Focus and I want to sincerely thank all of the staff there for helping me to do that.
For anyone reading this, please know that it is 1000% possible for you to change your life TODAY. YOU have that power and YOU have that capability. Do not listen to what anyone else has to say -- YOU have the ability to CHANGE as a person. You just have to apply yourself. It's that simple and it's that hard.
If you're considering High Focus, I highly encourage you to make that change today. It honestly changed my life.

High Focus saved my life. When I first walked in, I was struggling with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, guilt, shame, relationship issues, unhealthy coping strategies, trauma, battling with thoughts of giving up and abandonment – honestly, the list goes on. I felt completely lost and was stuck living in survival mode. But with the help of the caring and supportive staff, I was able to uncover strengths I didn’t even know I had, and rediscover the confident, beautiful person beneath all the pain. If you’re feeling lost or unsure where to turn, walking through those doors could change your life. The program works, but you get out of it what you’re willing to put in. Let it work for you. I miss all the staff and amazing friends I’ve met during my journey.

Understaffed . Bug infested. And they will leave you for dead if you ama and not help even if your under a risk of other peers fighting you . Some staff are good some aren't they don’t inform you of their policies just hand you a pamphlet no one reads and should or your rights . They have no real on grounds security guards and commit negligence and medical malpractice this is not to slander them they just need to fix what is clearly broken. They dont give enough one on one counseling they violate hippa laws and they're flawed curriculum wise it's groups all day 1 staff and majority of peer to peer pressure groups that become a circus or mentally exhausting. I recommend a different rehab till they fix this one . Another thing your belongings are stored in outside sheds raccoons get into and aren't temperature controlled a shed is all it is . The detergent used gives rashes clients take care of chores their maintenance guy does bad work and food is brought in through the same way trash gets taken out of . The drop ceiling covers black mold and cooks aren't qualified as fda would suggest food can be served properly or in improper temperatures also the 2000 caloric intake isn't met fully they feed not meats well poultry in the morning . If they fix the flaws it wouldn't be as bad and staff uses vulgar language which is bad in professional positions. Don't sign consents if you go there know your rights and handle your own communication and they say 2 calls a week no it's one if your lucky enough to be called off the list families aren't included as the brochure states my stay was horrifying I walked 2x and through woods at that seen foxes and all they couldn't even consider calling my emergency contacts charged my insurance 2x and I only stood there about 11 to 12 days or so plus I went ama 2x Acadia needs to be notified seriously. I was also sexually harassed and exposed to illicit drugs . However im chasing my recovery and sobriety I didn't allow myself to be downed though I felt mentally tortured and so insulted never again that made me more vigilant towards sobriety. If you want to scare someone out of addiction this is the place . However i would like to say thank you to most stuff even Carmen the cleaning lady and Margie they treated me nice and Inga the director was very respectful I wont mention those who wronged me though . I guess my timing was bad maybe or my concerns weren't taken serious hopefully others can get what they need from the program oh and thanks to the 2 John's p and r they were good Shawna Abby Ms Conchetta Ms V thank you for the kindness I'll keep ya in my mind and heart Ms Inga I still have the survey to submit please give me time I was going to report this facility but I cant because even with the flaws im in it for recovery and couldn't do that to others who this program could save unfortunately I wasn't one im serious about my recovery though I just know what I need and am way knowledgeable in these fields. Please don't take this rating as offensive I'll reconnect it to what I feel necessary again thank you and sorry for the inconvenience I may have caused.

You sincerely could not pay me to go to this place again. Buckle in, this is a long review, but heed my warnings.
—They refuse subutex until you’ve been there for 48 hours. They spoke to me as if I was stupid. Was told they’ve “actually had people still go into precip even after 48 hours, would you rather have a seizure and die because we gave it to you too early?” (Um…? Since when would that happen…??)
—When I picked up my belongings, they claimed that they couldn’t find any of my medication I had brought with me, that it was not written on my belongings list, and eventually straight up said I was mistaken and I didn’t come with any medication. When I opened up my bag of belongings, my 2 medications were in one of their company branded bags that looks like a pharmacy bag sitting right on top of all of my stuff. How are you a REHAB but lose track of medication!
—There was one single occupancy bathroom in the detox quarters and none in the individual rooms so god forbid you got sick.
—It may sound ridiculous to worry about this but there are no tv’s at all in the bedrooms (and obviously you have no access to your cellphone) which would help you to keep your mind off of being severely ill so every minute genuinely feels like a lifetime. I just looked and there are several brand new 32 inch tv’s for $70 online so you can’t tell me that they can’t afford that. Not even books are technically allowed that aren’t recovery focused. Politics book? Passion/interest/hobby book? Nope.
—Within my first 2 hours there, the one nurse started a fight and started yelling and cursing at their coworker right in front of me.
—When I wanted to AMA, they said they would not allow me to use their landline to contact someone for me to be picked up, nor would they allow me to use their WiFi once I got my cellphone back, since I had no service and knew my phone was at 5% with no charger on top of it. This place is in the middle of nowhere and it feels to me like they only have those policies to attempt to discourage you from leaving and from them losing out on your insurance money. Seems infinitely more dangerous than “helpful” to refuse this courtesy. Was told in a snarky tone “well that’s something to think about if you plan on leaving, isn’t it?” when I brought this up. They told me it was my disease speaking, the fact that I wanted to “run away” from facing my problems which is not true at all. I completed another detox and 30 day program no problem at all when I went somewhere that wasn’t awful like this place was. Suffering through detox does not magically mean you will be more likely to stay sober.
—I’m a size medium pants and the only pants they had to give me to switch into until they went through my stuff and gave to me several hours later, had to of been at least a size 2XL. I likely could have fit an entire other body my same size into the empty space left after pulling the waist band strings as tightly as possible. No brief, basic apology was even attempted regarding this.
—Groups go from roughly 8am to 9pm and you are required to attend each and every one.
—The rules state that you are not allowed to to “comfort or offer a tissue” to someone in group who may be starting to break down because it’ll “interrupt their process”
—You share your detox room with someone else so again, god forbid you or the other person is violently ill or restless like it’s assumed you will be while detoxing.
—The beds were essentially prison cots.
—No ability to roam around or smoke a cigarette between 10:30pm and 6:45 am when you’re restless.
—You have a choice of like 5 items for breakfast but aren’t allowed both hot food and cereal because god forbid. You’d think this place doesn’t get highly subsidized by the state with how stingy they are about everything there.
It was just a horrible experience. I’d highly recommend just going to a hospital for detox and then only going here afterwards if you need a program. I would straight up not trust this facility with your detox.

I am writing this review because Dr. Mirza made an impact on my sons recovery and helped me in understanding the process. I work in the er and not from here but I did hear alot of repeat pts talk about there experience at Princeton. Finding myself on the other side with my son who started to self medicate himself for depression with street drugs, I turned to Princeton. He was treated as a human being and I was never left feeling unsured. I have the utmost respect for the great work you guys do under those circumstances. Dr.Mirza thankyou for helping us get my son back on track..Not having medcaid has been a challenge but the meds you described have worked and I am paying out of pocket for now but it works. God bless you all and if he ever needed help again, hands down Princeton is the place we will be driving too. A billion thanks Dr. MIRZA AND YOUR WONDERFUL STAFF. Nilda and Richard Farre

The therapist there is awesome and understanding, but he recently left to a other job besides that I forgot to mention it's a no judgment zone at groups.I will continue to update this in future post to see if feel the same.
Update things are still going well ,but the downside about the place is sometimes the communication about transportation( pick ups ) are especially unpredictable may forget to pick you up sometimes because of lack of drivers or communication/weather ;and sometimes group's time are changing every month and people leave for vacation or which jobs. My old therapist move to a different job so they replaced me with someone else. I'm still attending my mental health groups and I see a psychiatrist for my medication. I will update you guys soon take care always.

Outpatient care allows you to live at home and attend treatment on a schedule | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This place takes things personal with there clients. They are suppose to help and heal people with there issues. Instead they create more mental health issues with there clients. They are totally disorganized. They never return phone calls. The info I just provided is first hand info from my step son that attended this dysfunctional institution. Beware if you decide to attend this place. Concerned parent.

This Long Island treatment center only seemed interested in my insurance. As soon as they found out I had Medicaid (Fidelis), they basically tried to get me off the phone. I would not recommend this place if you’re looking for genuine support.

As a former patient of this horribly run facility I warn that any patient should consider any other treatment center. This place offers minimal help and takes things too personal. The clinical director doesn't do much besides make you feel as if you aren't doing enough and picks at every answer you give. Most of the facilitators and lazy in what they provide. Handing out a mental health worksheet, reading a paragraph, and then reviewing what was read is something you would see in a 3rd grade classroom, shouldn't be seen at a treatment center for addiction. They do not engage with patients and tell you to slow down life because "you aren't ready". If you have been in abstinence they will still push that you aren't doing enough. They are also all under qualified. No body truly knows what's going on there as far as the workers go and they never have anything prepared. I'll end this with saying my best time at Long Island Treatment Center was leaving. Please consider that if you struggle with addiction there are plenty of other places to go to and this one will guaranteed disappoint you.
