Without their intervention, I likely would have faced incarceration, homelessness, or even death. I am deeply thankful for the positive impact that Medmark has had not only on my life but also on countless other individuals and their families who have sought help there. The staff at Medmark deserves special recognition; from the gentleman who greets you at the door to the nice and attentive and nonjudgmental nurses, knowledgeable doctors, compassionate and empathetic counselors, and the friendly front desk personnel, everyone embodies kindness, understanding, and support. My experience with 3 counselors over 3 years was wonderful. It has been a much more personal experience, a give and take that was different from past places. With 2 of them they had been previous addicts, but all have had wisdom and encouragement. At other places it was just be me telling my life story and them bieng very gaurded about any personal details which made it less likely for me to be totally honest and not make progress in the counseling sessions. . The nurses are very kindly people as well and, unlike other clincs will accommodate me as a 40 year old man they will find another man to supervise the urinalysis instead of making me pee with a beautiful young nurse standing next to me, which I feel is inappropriate. I can say everyone is very friendly since a surly old bird of a nurse left 2 yrs ago. Maybe I just have an exceptionally good attitude or drank too much of the syzurp, but I feel if you put forth any effort in your recovery, these people will more than meet you halfway. I just wanted to toss out a few shout outs to the people who made a huge impact and made me feel as comfortable as possible. Firstly, I didn’t have a negative experience with any staff during my stay. Everyone was great. But when I was in the ER, on 3/17 Cody, one of the registered nurses was phenomenal. He got an IV in, first stick. Which for how much difficulty other people have had in the past is impressive. But most importantly it never caused me discomfort the entire time it was in. When I moved up to floor 6 at the end of 3/17 start of 3/18 I had an RN named Liz. She made me laugh and made it feel like I was just talking to a friend. This is for sure her true calling and I regret that I wasn’t able to thank her directly for how comfortable she made me feel in a terrifying situation. I also want to thank Michael who was one of my OR nurses on 3/18. He was fun and had me laughing and again, it made the nervousness go away. Lastly I want to thank Dr. Sharma. For me to request my Doctor to ask discharge questions and for them to send the Interim Medical Director because my Doctor wasn’t available right away I think speaks volumes about the hospital itself, and Dr. Sharma. He was very relaxed, had a great sense of humor, and welcomed any questions I had. He went in full detail if there was something I didn’t quite understand. Full 5 stars for this visit. Maybe half a star revoked verbally just cause one sugar and one cream with your coffee is nowhere near enough and seems like a sin, but I’ll let it slide cause of the phenomenal care I received. The staff is pleasant, and check-in was seamless. I appreciated that they try to make the space kid-friendly; there’s a TV with cartoons and a small coloring station. It’s a bit modest (the TV is small/mounted high and the coloring table is simple), but the effort is there. We actually donated some extra crayons today to help out! Overall, it’s very clean and the people are great. Don’t let the dated appearance or the tricky location deter you Brandon Burns 4 months ago I go for therapy and for medication and I've been going to Latrobe for about maybe 2 years now! It took a bit to work out medications, but it takes time y'know? They're not gonna know right away the meds you need. They're always really quick to pick up the phone when I call to make appointments which is really nice because then I don't have to play phone tag. The first therapist I had was amazing, she was really nice and very easy to talk to, and my current one is also great! I was very weary of having a male therapist at first, but he made me feel comfortable and is very easy to talk to! Although, I do have a complaint about the inpatient services. I went once for an evaluation and I was there for FOUR HOURS. I had to tell my story to 4 different nurses, and the evalution itself was 3 hours long. After being there for that long and going through the ENTIRE PROCESS, they told there were no beds avaliable, and no discharges in the morning, meaning that I couldn't go to a room after someone got discharged, but we were fully welcome to stay in the concrete cellar we were currently in. Or, we could go to another hospital that was 3hrs away that did have an opening. We went home. I didn't want to because I needed help because I literally just tried to off myself, but my mom didn't want to drive 3hrs to come see me. Couldn't you have told us there were no beds BEFORE the 3 hour long evaluation?? I think that the outpatient services are outstanding, but I don't have a good experience with the inpatient services and I don't recommend them.
