Sober life is the absolute BEST place to be if you are struggling. I went in 2020 and didn’t complete, and they welcomed me back with open arms march of this year and I went through completion. I have had the opportunity to stay in their network by getting care at SD wellness for psychiatry. Over this holiday week I had forgotten about my refill of a medication I need, I got in contact with Dan from alumni since I forgot what their hours were for thanksgiving and Black Friday, and by today (saturday) I have my refill! I got a personal call from Dr Amaro and got squared away. I’ve never found a medical group that listens, cares, and has better communication than here. I am so happy with this process and will always come back if I need it! Highly recommend!

La Jolla Recovery helped me start healing in ways I didn’t expect. The program included space for creativity and some group sessions were actually gender inclusive, which mattered a lot to me. Not everything was perfect, could use more LGBTQ+ focused options. But overall it felt safe, and the staff got the trauma side of things. I'd come back if I needed to.

Was just admitted a few weeks ago and the care provided was really good. I was diagnosed and treated. The food could definitely be better and they don’t really have menus for patients and you can’t choose what you eat unless you ask the nurse. But I was able to have family bring more tasty food. The care and private room made the stay great other than being sick. Both doctors I had were great and went above and beyond and all my nurses were amazing. The ER was very busy but they had me admitted and in a room within a couple of hours.

HGR drug rehabs San Diego was the best residential inpatient addiction treatment center I have attended. I was in the inpatient drug rehab for 30 days. I received an individualized treatment plan and spoke with a credentialed substance abuse counselor every day. After completing this level, I went to the intensive outpatient program or their IOP drug rehabs Escondido, California center. Here I went three times a week for 3 hours each time. This was convenient and I was able to continue working while going through this stage. Nora, their CEO met with me almost every day to make sure I was progressing. Once completing the IOP I went to their outpatient drug rehabs Escondido center. I still call their every month. Let me tell you, this place saved my life. If they did not take my insurance, I would have stopped looking for substance abuse treatment.

I wanted to leave this long review with the hope that someone at the center would take it seriously and learn from it. To begin, I gained entry to this program because a doctor recommended me. And honestly? It was the best thing to happen to me that year. The staff is friendly and kind, and they will connect you to lots of resources. That said, there is always room for improvement. For the record, I was homeless when I entered this program (I’m not anymore) due to having lost my job during CO VID. I am an educated woman with a BA in English literature and a survivor of long term narcissistic abuse. My criticism of Balboa Crisis Center is that they don’t enforce the rules! Clients are supposed to attend groups, participate in chores, and respect other people’s food in the fridge. I had a roommate who did the exact opposite and was allowed to stay in the center for a very long time, instead of being kicked out as she should have been. One day she became randomly angry at me and started stealing my food out of the fridge. By this point I realized she was a narcissist – as in, she had full blown NPD – and had imagined some insult from me against her, which narcissists are known to do, often because they are projecting. When I told the staff about this, nothing was done. So I did what I could to minimize the situation by avoiding my roommate as much as possible and asking to be moved to another room. What the staff should have done was exit VICTORIA from the program, instead of allowing her to stay, steal food, shirk chores, and claim a bed that someone else needed more. I was allowed to stay a long time myself, but the end of my stay was coming, and I would be homeless on the street again. I was very upset about the prospect, and Victoria knew this. As I walked past her in the kitchen, she sarcastically said “Bye!” as a passive aggressive way of mocking me for being homeless again soon. This is how narcissists operate, through plausible deniability. I couldn’t prove that she was mocking me because she had been passive aggressive about it. It was covert abuse. Suddenly sick of always attracting narcissistic bullies into my life, I wheeled back around and asked her what was wrong with her. I think it was at this point that she realized she may have IMAGINED whatever she was mad at me for. She started insisting that she meant nothing by it,that she was just saying goodbye (lies). Things escalated to the point that I picked up a cup from the table and threw it at her. I was sick and tired of narcissists. I’ve been abused by a LOT of them and they are drawn to me because I’m quiet, shy, and a loner, the perfect candidate for covert abuse. Well, not anymore. Everyone acted like I was crazy and imagined Victoria’s behavior, but I know the truth. She stole from me and made me do her chores for weeks, then had the gall to mock me about being exited,, and when I finally snapped, tried to make herself out to be the victim. Classic narcissist behavior. And since the staff is made up of psych students, I hope they read this and learn something about narcissists. The whole time I was there, I was friendly and outgoing, and everyone got along with me. The only person who didn’t get along with me was Victoria. That should have been a red flag, an indication that I was telling the truth and she was the one lying. Either way, I am still grateful to Balboa Crisis Center and I hope they take steps to prevent something similar from happening in the future. Yes, this is Ashley. =)

My 21 day stay at vista balboa. I came here not expecting anything. Didn't know what a crisis house was and certainly have never been to one . I came in lost, broken and defeated. The staff( clinicians, peer support, managers, nurses, assistant director) welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I was at home during my stay here. They really care and that is so important when working with mental health. I had a beautiful experience, I got my life back and I know that it wouldn't have been possible with the staff that work here. Thank you♥️

JOSE, PETE, MARIO AND NADIA along with every member of the staff is ABSOLUTELY UNDER PAID FOR THE CARE THEY PROVIDE, THEY NOT ONLY LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE (NO EXAGGERATION) BUT THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE FAMILY FOR THE SHORT TIME I WAS THERE, I OWE MY LIFE TO THE WHOLE ENTIRE STAFF, if it were not for paradise I know I wouldn't be alive, the words THANK YOU and GREATFUL do NOT suffice what that staff means to me and what they are worth, you have a TEAM OF NOTHING BUT ROCKSTARS THERE THAT GO ABOVE AND WAY BEYOND WHAT THEY NEED TO, THEY NEVER DO THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET BY BUT INSTEAD THEY TREAT YOU LIKE YOU MATTER, LIKE YOUR SOMEONE SPECIAL AND THAT IS PRICELESS, when your a recovering addic you already have no self-esteem, self respect or self worth but the staff helps you not only recover but they also help you get all the self worth, respect and esteem back as well, I could go on forever so I'll leave it with this, PARADISE ISN'T JUST A REHAB / DETOX FACILITY BUT ITS ALSO A PLACE THAT TREATS YOU LIKE YOU MATTER AND AS A ADDIC THAT MEANS EVERYTHING!!! THANK YOU PARADISE STAFF!!! I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU
