Sean made the intake process feel comfortable and helped ease so much of the fear and anxiety I had coming in. Jay also went above and beyond to help me with supplemental needs like food assistance and getting my Social Security card, which meant so much during such a difficult time in my life. What stood out to me most was how genuinely caring the staff is. Southeast provides so much support during treatment — transportation, cleaning supplies, weekday lunches, and most importantly, a safe environment where you can truly focus on recovery. Many of the techs and group leaders are in recovery themselves, which makes a huge difference because they truly understand what clients are going through. All of the housing and clinical techs are incredible, and I especially want to thank Jenn, Tracy, Edwin, Avery, and Kevin for the support and kindness they showed me. Cookie and Wendy made a lasting impact on me during my time there and still do today. They truly care about the clients, create a supportive and safe environment, and always brought compassion, encouragement, and positivity when I needed it most. The groups were incredibly helpful, especially those led by Cassandra and Jimmy, who both bring real experience, honesty, and compassion into their work. My therapist, Carlie, has also been such an important part of my recovery journey. She has been patient, understanding, and genuinely invested in helping me grow and heal. All of the therapists are wonderful, but I definitely wanted to give mine a special shoutout! I’m so grateful to still be working with her while transitioning into outpatient and sober living. The nurse practitioner and Len also went above and beyond to make sure my individual needs were met and that I felt genuinely supported every step of the way. Southeast never made me feel like “just another client.” The care here feels real, and that made all the difference for me. Every day they challenged me and called me on my bull. They also supported me when i needed while also not allowing me to stay rooted in the same place. The friendships i made there gives me alot of hope for our futures. If u also do housing the apartments u stay in is in a nice community located near an outlet mall and tons of other businesse. Each one of them bought a nice mix of their styles of teaching. Nick spent a great deal of time helping me with several things that I needed help with. This also made my time here a lot less stressful and I amvery greatful for his help. My counselor/Therapist Stephen was also a big help in helping me with the process of sending in the necessary paperwork that I needed for my situation and I am also greatful for his much-needed help. It felt private and secured. I want to especially note that Faith and Joy were incredible -- they were very knowledgeable, warm, and kind. You can get free testing every 12 months, free condoms, and relatively quick results (for me, STD test results within 4 business days & HIV results within a minute). There are few other programs that provide extensive, long term, physical and emotional level care, individual and group therapy, teaches applicable life skills as well as drug and alcohol education and support. HOWEVER, I saw Dr. Sambunaris and his team years ago (late 1990’s?) for an anti-depressant drug trial. It was done with a double-blind placebo and I never knew whether I was receiving “the real thing” or not. However, over the weeks of going in and meeting with him and his team, I came to greatly respect the care and thoughtful approach that I could see came from the direction of Dr. Sambunaris. He and his team were always ready to stop the trial for a patient, should they start experiencing any negative side effects. I suppose that’s normal for drug trials, but I felt so very cared for. In all my years since then of trying therapy here and there, I’ve never experienced an office team and /or Psych doctor that was that…I dunno…warm; loving; that made you feel like it’s gonna be ok. (I know what you’re probably thinking: I haven’t found the right therapist and I need to just head to Dr. S’s office! You’re right!) At the end of the trial, during the exit interview, Dr. S. asked if I thought I was on an antidepressant (I did think so), and queried me on my thoughts. He then explained the link between depression and anxiety (who knew? I’m not even sure “Google” was born yet!). That info has been THE most helpful to me over the years - more-so than possibly ANY mental health information: That my depression wasn’t the crux of the problem; my ANXIETY was (is). I’m so grateful to Dr. Angelo Sambunaris for giving me that tidbit of knowledge so that I could learn how to better take care of myself. When I got here I had not a dime to my name, my clothes were scattered from Atlanta to Alabama, I had never held a job successfully, or had a healthy relationship in my life. Now I have been working as an Accountant/Office Manager for a solid year, I am financially stable, have my own house and car, but most importantly I have HEALTHY relationships with my family and friends that grow stronger by the day. Non of that ever felt possible until the Angel House made me realize how capable I really am. This place changed it for me, beyond anything I could have ever expected. It brings me to tears to even think about. I have NEVER had people care about me the way staff did. I never once felt like a case in a folder, and was always made to feel that what I had to say was important. I felt like someone who's voice mattered for the first time. Brooke Boyette would be running around the office trying to put out so many fires, help so many people at the same time, but not one time did she EVER tell me she didn't have time to talk and that still holds true today. Since I graduated I still call her on a daily basis and complain about life, but guess what... shes there to listen. This program does more than just show you how to live life clean. It shows you how to love again, let others love you, and gives you a family that you can hold onto forever. If your willing to fight for your life and come out on the other side you quickly realize that nothing is personal and its all spiritual. So that brings me to the director Angela. This lady spent hours and I mean HOURS on end fighting for my life when I didn't want to fight for it myself. I say hours because I was pretty stubborn and had a hard time opening my ears when it was time for me to listen. Angela would sit and talk with me no matter how long it took, till she was sure that I had heard her. She didn't have to do that. She could have left when the office closed at 7 "I had her there late MANY nights", she could have not answered her phone on a Sunday when I found out my mom relapsed after 10 years sober and stayed on the phone with me for over an hour, she didn't have to show up in the middle of the night when we needed her, she didn't have to fight so hard for ME and MY life but guess what... SHE DID!! Not only did she do it for me but continues to do it for every women that steps foot into that program. Her compassion for the work she does is beyond anything I have ever witnessed before. She showed me how to be a better person Spiritually, Mentally, and Financially. These women are hero's and a grateful recovering addict can quickly realize the lengths they go to for ALL women that come through the program. I came here for a surgery. I am not from here and traveled from out of state so I was kinda nervous in the beginning. The first point of contact where one checks in for surgery inprocessing was not nice as the lady checking me in wasn't courteous or friendly so I was like here we go. But the moment I went in, I was taken care by amazing nurses and doctors. Nurse Kacie, EKG nurse Sarah, Nurse Jennifer and Nurse Conrad were amazing. It felt like I was with friends and family, though meeting them for the first time. Doctor Gill and anesthesiast doctor (forgot his name) are amazing doctors. I had to stay overnight under their care and they checked up on me all night. Of course the food they provided wasn't their choice. On the other hand the staff is absolutely in need of customer service training on the phone. I left a poor review with a nasty note prior to this rating because of how poorly those people treat you on the phone. They have zero empathy and lack any smile in their voice. I would give less stars but I can see that someone/s did a great job rehabilitating my family member. They even told me it was hit or miss with who you got.
