I was at the Shelley Center during the most difficult times of my life as I had breast cancer. I had a mastectomy on both sides. I hated myself. My appearance seemed awful in my eyes. Shelley Center staff helped me work on fear and they went above and beyond to make sure I loved myself again. They went as far as to buy me my prosthetics so I could start loving myself again and feeling like a normal human being. They're not just an organization, they're a family. I have been stuck in the never ending cycle of treatment for six years now. I have been to countless places that baby you and coddle you to death and focus on teaching people how to simply think better but never focus on the application of new behavior. Luckily, Liberty Ranch is much more focused on teaching people how to actually act better. If you want to turn your life around for good come to The Liberty Ranch and they will be your best bet to making a life long change. I am a year sober and have found some serenity and joy in life I believe that is in big part due to The Ranch and the people that run it. It is different than your average "cookie cutter" treatment. They deal with the real underlying issues and character defects that keep us in relapse mode. I originally came here for 30 days and now going on 7 months in this program. I came here from California and have witnessed the benefits of the program working in my life. The property is beautiful and there are dogs there for that extra love and support! Highly recommend this place if you are serious about your sobriety. She was under 5'5" I believe & brunette. She was the sweetest nurse & took care of me. On scale 1-5, she is a 8. All of night shift was on top of all my test. My timing to the ER apparently was perfect as far as care. I don't know the night shift hospitalist but he was 5 out 5. Day shift was good too, but night shift won. I was told at 6am I would be admitted due to oxygen levels but had to wait for CT results before orders could be put in. At 4pm I was moved to the floor. The staff on the 3rd floor was attentive too. Angelina, day shift on Saturday 9/16/26, also gets 8 out of 5 stars. I guess things have changed. I was use to a hospital gown & personal items in the room when the patient entered. There was nothing at all in the room. Not even a blanket. Mom had brought me a gown, no problem, just surprised. I had to ask for glass of water & pitcher. During the night I ask for a blanket & kleenex. If someone got sick there was nothing for them to throw up in. To me this takes away from the hospital. At the minimum, a gown, blanket, water pitcher, glass & a pan should be in the room when patient arrives. I didn't need anything for vomiting but that's not something you can call out for something to catch it before you vomit. I’m from Michigan, so choosing to come all the way back to Kentucky says a lot about how much I trust this place and the people here. I knew that if I was going to get serious about my recovery again, Roaring Brook was where I wanted to be. Coming back a second time has only reinforced how grateful I am for this program. Relapse was incredibly difficult for me to accept after having two years of sobriety, but Roaring Brook gave me a place where I could be honest about where I was at, work through what happened, and actually focus on rebuilding my recovery instead of feeling judged for it. This time around, I was also able to participate in TRP (Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program), and it has made such a huge difference in my recovery. TRP has given me the opportunity to work through traumas that I hadn’t fully dealt with and understand how those experiences have affected me and my recovery. I’ve also learned actual coping skills that I can use when things get difficult instead of turning back to old behaviors. It has been a really important part of my healing and has helped me understand myself on a much deeper level. My experience with my therapist, Jarrod, has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve gotten so much out of treatment. He is genuinely one of the smartest and most thorough therapists I’ve ever worked with. He doesn’t just listen to respond — he really takes the time to understand what I’m saying, asks questions that make me think, and helps me connect the dots in ways I wouldn’t have been able to on my own. I’ve learned so much from working with him, and I’m incredibly grateful for the work he’s done with me. I’m also incredibly grateful for Alison, who manages the sober living I’m in. She is absolutely amazing. She genuinely cares about the people in the house and goes above and beyond to make sure we have the support, structure, and accountability we need. Having that continued support outside of treatment has made a huge difference for me. What stands out most about Roaring Brook is that I never feel like I’m just another person going through a program. There are people here who genuinely care about my recovery and want to see me succeed. Being willing to travel from Michigan back to Kentucky for treatment, especially after a relapse, was a huge decision, but I know I made the right one. I have used alcohol and drugs the past 45 years of my life trying to stop on my own lots of times but couldn't do it. When I walked through the doors I was amazed by the staff how they welcomed me. Now 8 months later after they literally loved me back to life I am proud to say that I am sober which my family thought would be impossible and very proud to be a staff member and will graduate in June of the long term program.
