She is highly compassionate and intelligent in her field. She knew everything I needed her for and never let me down. Jen, the Facility Administrator, is such a sweetie. She listened and gave me great advice. The staff is truly emphatic. They have various addiction backgrounds and knew all the right things to say. They gave me advice I will keep with me forever. Duke, the amazing Duke. I will miss that little guy with all my heart. "Puppy!" is such an outgoing ESA dog. He loves everyone he meets and for being 9ish years old is still the king of his castle. He is so loving and a great fit to keep love in the air there. Having Duke there to lend his 4 legged care and compassion makes StepWorks such a loving place. Some might say they wanted to leave or they didn't like being there. Those people didn't finish the program or take it seriously. I wanted to leave numerous times, but after a while it wasn't because of the program, but issues I was having mentally. After talking with the staff and doing the much needed changes to myself mentally, I realized it was me and not them. You have to take the program seriously to benefit from it. You have to follow the rules, be involved with the classes, do your chores appropriately... All to gain what is needed to live the sober life. Don't use the program as a way to have shelter, food, utilities, to meet a lover. You will not gain what you need to keep from being a statistic. Do as your supposed to, and you will leave there a new person and a changed sober person. I did and I'm not looking back. Thank you StepWorks for all you did for me. The mens house was a beautiful house in what seemed like a very nice neighborhood. Had plenty of space and nice chill area in the back yard. The groups were good and was able to have some fun with them. The house manager Denny I believe his name was, was absolutely incredible. I have used alcohol and drugs the past 45 years of my life trying to stop on my own lots of times but couldn't do it. When I walked through the doors I was amazed by the staff how they welcomed me. Now 8 months later after they literally loved me back to life I am proud to say that I am sober which my family thought would be impossible and very proud to be a staff member and will graduate in June of the long term program. However, the rest of the hospital has been beyond exceptional. During covid in 2022, I spent two weeks recovering in the Lex VA hospital and really got to see exceptional care. Last year I spent a total of a month (two weeks each time) in the Lex VA hospital and was reminded why I stay in the Lex VA region. From nursing assistants, nurses, doctors, physical rehabilitation, nutritionist and everyone that took care of me on a daily basis showed beyond exceptional care. Ive been through a few VA care systems. Some were... dangerous for patient care and you felt that going in. My only complaint would be the doctor turnover rate can make it difficult to get comfortable with a doctor. But, the doctors are always above par. The staff is wonderful and always eager to help. The Office is also clean and easy to get to. Terri and TJ have been working there from the start and I would trust them with my life. I'm grateful for a a good place I can trust with my recovery. Truth is I would be just another statistic dead due to overdose! They have taught me how to live again, love myself, and become a productive member of society. With the medication along with the groups and counseling and support from their human resource team. I’ve been able to get back on my feet and any bumps in the road they are always their the help me figure it out.With the groups and counseling have helped me reprogram my brain into a healthier mindset to deal with everyday life situations with out turning to drugs.
