I love how he includes the parent in last half of sessions, and explains everything as clearly as he can, and stays on top of medication,and side effects. RE: A "edit" to my post- Today we learned that Dr Carter is retiring at the end of this month....a day I knew would eventually come, but had hoped would be a few more years away.... to see him 20 years +, it was emotional and very sad news😢. We were told a "Dr. Lee who is a good doctor, and younger" wI'll be taking Dr. Carter's position the first of January. My son is not pleased at all, but we will have to wait and see if they "connect" in February. At any rate, with new management at Family Preservation, and all staff changes, and lack of staff, my "5 star rating" may be much less very soon. C P 6 years ago

When you’re dealing with things that aren’t visible on the outside, it can feel awkward explaining why certain parts of life just don’t function the way they used to. That’s not an easy thing to put into words. What stood out to me was that I didn’t feel rushed. The staff took the time to listen and ask thoughtful questions instead of assuming they already understood the situation. That matters more than people realize. When you’re navigating something complex — especially involving cognitive or executive functioning challenges — being heard is half the battle. The environment itself was calm and professional. Not flashy, not overwhelming — just steady. And sometimes steady is exactly what you need. Vocational rehabilitation is not a magic wand. It’s a process. But this visit felt like a step in the right direction rather than another bureaucratic hoop to jump through. I left feeling a mix of realism and cautious hope — which, honestly, is better than walking out feeling dismissed. If you’re considering going, especially for support with challenges that aren’t obvious on the surface, it’s worth the conversation. I have been coming here for almost 3 years and can say I have had the best experience and honestly maintained sobriety longer then I have ever been able too with there support and treatment. The staff is extremely caring and respectful, the councling has been super helpful and they definitely help you feel like you have support and your not just another junkie from the street. I had Jackie as a counselor when I started and she was promoted and went to Anderson location and I ended up with a new counselor Chelsea and have been lucky enough to have her ever since ! They have helped me with transportation when I've had issues getting there as I am disabled and don't drive , I have had some very hard things happen in my life and I grew to trust Chelsea and have been able to talk to her and she has helped me lot just by listening and truly ended up failing a DT and knew I hadn't done anything and have had a flawless record and had just taken an observed 2 days before(clean as can be other than methadone )an being given the DT that I took on my own that came up as failed and I was so shocked and cried because I knew I hadn't done anything and it was just very helpful that she helped me through that and she helped me figure out what happened.. I figured she wouldn't believe me because I am sure so many have said the same , but she didn't and she cared enough to help me figure it out. All of staff there are just such genuine caring people and seem to be doing it because they truly care to help ppl recover and not just doing it for a paycheck . They have connected with so many that I see and the kids that have to come with their parents they connect and get to know the ppl and don't make you feel less than for having to go through the process of recovery. His therapist, Joe, was compassionate and effective, and helped motivate our son to reach for more than he thought possible. He left Momentum with a very positive attitude about himself and his possibilities. He has just started a ‘transition’ program where he is utilizing the lessons learned at Momentum to carve out his new life. Momentum is a very fine program with a dedicated, caring and skilled staff - we can highly recommend it! Tiffany Mullis 5 days ago I dropped my son off nine months ago at NSR. At that time, I didn’t realize how much of a codependency I had with my son. Even after dropping him off, I tried to stay involved in the day-to-day details which was the very reason I dropped him off in the first place. So i wouldn’t have to stay in the details and could focus on me. My advice is to let the process work. My son is now in a much better place and said this was the best decision he had ever made. I am also in a much better place and the Tuesday night parent calls are a must do for any one that has family in the program. NSR provides more freedom and flexibility in their program that a lot of other places did not. That was a deciding factor when I was initially looking for a place for my son to go. Then I found next step, and my second chance at a better, clean and sober life. I've been in and out of rehabs and detoxes my whole life. But this facility was different. I was welcomed like I was family and I had come home. With the love and compassion, not judged, but given a real chance at a better life. I'm currently living in the sober living house, and unlike a lot of places. The houses are very nice, clean, and up to date homes fully furnished. We have all had exceptional service from all of the care providers. In an atmosphere that can be pretty thankless at times due to each patients needs, wants and desires the staff handles it with professional skills. Cannot say enough about the ER. They are helpful and caring from the moment you walk through the doors until the moment you leave. Our primary care doctors are fantastic given the workload they carry. Even if you have not seen the care provider in a year when you walk in it is just like yesterday you spoke with them. Every place will have it's ups and downs. Good and bad experiences based on the individual needs of others. But, the amount of patients seen here it is amazing how smooth this place operates. For a Veteran it is like going home in a familiar comrade way! Thank you from the heart to each and every caregiver. Always remember if you feel you need just a little more attention contact patient advocacy and watch the wheel start spinning in the right direction. You will be respected, heard, and treated with dignity. You won't be dismissed, all your questions will be answered. Be completely honest so that you can receive the exact care that you need. You could not ask for better accomodations or understanding. The environment is immediately welcoming. Its quiet, peaceful. They have everything you need, you really just need clothing. (Its a bit chilly, bring hoodies and fuzzy socks) There are even laundry facilities. You will be provided with a vape or nicotine patches if you use nicotine products. You may rest as much as you need, the staff will let you sleep through the night, vitals are during the day. You can call your family, except for during group meetings. No visitors, but the stay is short. The counselors and peer support specialists are very honest, open, and eager to help you with your personal journey, without being pushy or making you feel rushed. Whether faith based or evidence based care is right for you, that is your choice. There are options for both approaches! The idea of group meetings was terrifying for me, an introvert, an addict full of shame and guilt. You are not obligated to contribute, that was reassuring. But I was surprised at myself for wanting to contribute and engage. It was a bit sad leaving. While here, I was not just a junkie, just an alcoholic, a lost cause, all of the negative adjectives I used to describe myself. I wasn't the things my family called me. I wasn't an echo of the childhood I lost. I wasn't an empty, lonely vessel on autopilot. I was a person. A human. Im more than my story, but sharing our perspectives and caring for each other felt like being part of a family. A family where you aren't the black sheep. It was almost overwhelming to feel that kind of support and HOPE. Ill be honest; When I came in, i wasn't ready to get help. The timing was just right. But very quickly that changed. They made me want to be better. Not for recognition or pats on the back. Not for attention or brownie points.
