The surgeons, nurses, staff (even a visit from the hospital's vice president), and everyone involved in my procedure cared about my comfort during a recent stay and kept my wife well informed about my care throughout my procedure and stay and even after going home. Wonderful my job

I was recently inpatient for a single night after a common but painful surgery. I wasn’t sure what to expect from an overnight stay at this hospital. I’ve stayed overnight at others and in comparison, I was extremely happy with this one. The hospital room was very clean and reasonably comfortable for a hospital room. The hospitalists I saw in the evening and in the morning were both warm and had great bedside manner (can’t really speak to their medical expertise since I didn’t really need it and my overnight stay was more for observation than anything else). The nursing staff throughout my stay was great too. I had moderate pain throughout the night and they did a great job with helping me get relief quickly and even helped me with alternative pain relief methods when I was maxed out on my medical pain relief options until the next dose time. I feel like it’s common to feel bothered every five seconds during a hospital stay - we all know it’s challenging to get good rest in the hospital. But I didn’t feel that way at all here. Given my experience with local Wellspan providers outpatient and this experience inpatient, I’d definitely choose Wellspan Ephrata again without a second thought in the unfortunate event of a need.
The only need that I felt wasn’t met was when it came to discharge instructions. I was discharged on a Saturday morning & I had a simple question about pain management instructions for once I was home that was not answered well at all. I understand that my discharge papers were already written and that info wasn’t included and it was a Saturday so it would be hard to get in touch with the specialty provider that did my surgery to ask it for me, but looking back now that I’m on less pain meds and can think more clearly, it would have been a simple question for them to have posed to the hospitalist so I had a better understanding of the plan once I was home. It wasn’t really a specialty question.
