I was overwhelmed and didn't know what else to do. I was really nervous about sending her to a treatment facility because I have heard a lot of scary stories about people's experiences at these types of places. I will say it was the best decision I could have made! She made so much progress due to her therapist. Robyn A. Is the best therapist. She really knows how to help kids and get them to think about things differently. I cannot say enough good things about her. Bethann was amazing at helping us get started and welcomed us with compassion and care. The nurse manager Megan was great too. Mitch was also wonderful and gave updates weekly on how my kiddo was doing. So many of the staff were fantastic and really tried to work with my child. I am so thankful for Embark. Sending Giavonna away for treatment was not an easy decision, but from the beginning, I felt that she was being treated with genuine care, compassion, and respect. The woman who handled Giavonna’s intake was wonderful. She was kind, understanding, and made me feel comfortable during what was a very emotional and difficult time. She even took the time to drive me back to the airport, which was such a thoughtful gesture that I will never forget. What meant the most to me was seeing the way the staff spoke to Giavonna. They treated her with patience and care and made her feel heard rather than judged. I also appreciated how they worked closely with my son and Giavonna’s mother, developing goals and game plans together so everyone could be on the same page and support her. No facility or program can make a difficult journey easy, but having people who truly care makes such a difference. I am thankful to the Embark staff for the compassion they showed Giavonna and our family and for the effort they put into helping her move forward. I would like to shout out Chloe, Lethia, Sammie, and Savannah due to their overwhelming care for me and their understanding of me. Ryan 2 months ago Jordana juiliton Hilition mayor provost I love you need khelp Eliana Sandvik 1 year ago I’ve spent the better part of the last 11 years of my life at Provo Canyon School as a full time teacher and when Covid situations caused a need for additional student life mentors, and since my heart broke for the many teens who were in treatment during the pandemic, I became a substitute evening, and sometimes weekends overnight staff member to help during this time of needed compassion and supervision for the situation of these teens. I am also the parent of a child named Mikey (naming him here because I have four other children and don’t want any of them to feel that their identity and reputation could be compromised by anything I say here about their brother and his experience in five separate behavioral and treatment facilities that he and I together chose to place him in to help him learn to deal with his addiction and his life traumas). In-patient treatment is at best always tough because vulnerable children are away from their parents, family and familiar friends as they voyage into living in a dorm setting with other children with some similar issues, and some with much more complex issues. Provo Canyon School provides these children with fantastic psychiatrists who also work in private practice outside the facility. My son, (who was a student body President, a medical assistant, and, sadly an Opoid addict who sometimes used illegal drugs to self medicate his bi-polar mental disorder) was prescribed, and responded very well to medications similar to what the PCS doctors prescribe our patients. Like some of these respondents on the PCS comments page, he went through spells of feeling inadequately or overly medicated until the right dosage was attained by his doctors and his compliance in taking the meds correctly and having nurses, teachers, staff, and therapists work together to help him communicate and observe the meds that helped him feel “right” mentally. This process is not easy for the patient, family, nor staff or facility in general, and a lot of patience and energy is required to just get the meds right for the desired behaviors to happen. I question negative comments by some of our past students here because time and time again I have witnessed some dramatic and wonderful mental and behavioral improvements in my PCS students within a couple weeks of getting on properly prescribed meds if needed and getting away from the substances that some may have been detoxing from. In 11 years, I have never seen any patient not have more than enough clean water from clean drinking fountains and more good food and tasty snacks, all planned and reviewed by competent dietary professionals and good cooks. Teachers and staff often dine with patients in the cafeteria and requests for special diet accommodations are often honored. As far as academics are concerned, I have worked at five accredited public schools in two states and have never worked with more distinguished and professional school academic directors than we have now at PCS and both have been at the school for over ten years. Many of the teachers have masters degrees and most have double majored with special education credentials to help both gifted and special needs students. As far as I have been able to determine, comparing PCS with the five facilities that my own son attended, (wish I had known about PCS at the time) the school directors, leadership and all facility employees that I have observed are doing an amazing job of using Trauma Informed Care, best practices, professionalism and kindness in helping patients learn the skills and have the knowledge to become happy, successful and productive members of our society. annette alexander 1 year ago

I think they need to replace that man and I pray that financially that cedar House stays open for many more years to come. Whenever I’m sick or not feeling well, they always step in right away and make sure I’m taken care of. It never feels like I’m just another patient to them. They genuinely check on me, help me through it, and make sure I’m as comfortable as possible. All of the nurses work together in such a kind and supportive way, and because of that, I always feel really welcomed when I walk in. Even on rough days, I know I’m going to be met with patience, understanding, and care instead of stress or judgment. I've been to two different rehabs before this one (one being a well-known, Nationwide facility) and this is by far the superior institution. They have several different levels of care to assist in every stage of the rehabilitation process. The detox was smooth and cautious; I felt extremely safe and comfortable. The group sessions are gentle and inviting, to let clients know that they are in capable hands and an accepting environment. The therapy sessions dive deep into the mental health issues that lead to addiction. The staff is professional when they need to be, but also speak to clients like they are real people and not just another patient. The homey atmosphere (as opposed to a hospital setting) makes the experience both realistic and comforting. The way it's ran shows clients that they can live a normal, sober life. It impacts their recovery journey by letting clients set attainable daily and long-term goals. There were people there who genuinely cared, listened to me, and helped me through a very difficult time. I’m grateful for the experience and the people I met, and I would still recommend this facility to someone who is looking for help. However, I do feel that there is an important issue that needs to be addressed regarding medications at discharge. Before leaving, I was specifically told that all of my medications would be going home with me. I understood that to mean exactly that—all medications I had been prescribed and paid for would be included in my discharge medications. When I got home and realized that one of my medications was missing, I called the facility to ask about it. I was then told that I “didn’t need” the medication. My concern is that I had already been told I would be taking all of my medications home, and I had also paid for the medication. Even if they felt I didn’t currently need it, there was still a possibility that I could run into a situation where I might need it, which is exactly why I was concerned about not having it available. I understand that medical professionals may make decisions about what medications are necessary, but if a medication has been prescribed, paid for, and the patient has been specifically told that it will be sent home with them, I feel there should be clear communication about any changes before discharge. I shouldn’t have had to get home, discover that something was missing, and then call to find out why. This is not meant to take away from the positive aspects of my experience. I’m thankful for the care and support I received, but I do believe the discharge medication process could be handled much better. Clear communication and making sure patients receive what they were told they would receive would make the transition home much less stressful. They also provide you with a personalized medication regimen which alleviates the stressors of depression, anxiety, sleep problems, etc. that typically present themselves during treatment. Three meals are provided a day and snacks are always readily available. The only area that could use some work is the organization of phone time and med pass around the daily schedules. Overall, there’s always healthy and productive activities to do at this facility, and I finished my experience feeling much more clear minded and hopeful for my future outside of treatment. I called Rory and explain to him that my friend needed help and that he was in desperate need of treatment. My friend had asked me to help him and the only person I knew to reach out to was the first person I called. Surprised it was the edge. Needless to say my friends insurance did not cover the cost of him coming from a tiny Town in Texas all the way to Orange county california. However, Rory stayed on the phone with me and kept in touch with me and my friend and his mom. We had to jump through some hoops and some red tape. My friend used to be a Marine. He was diagnosed with a lot of different types of things. Rory literally held my hand over the phone as we walked through this journey. We finally got my friend to a rehab center in Texas. Rory had nothing to gain but everything to give. He showed us all compassion and Hope. He encouraged me whenever I felt stuck and I couldn't help my friend. However, to this day my friend is in a rehab in Texas getting well. He's being treated perfectly. The facility that he sent my friend to is perfect for him. He is still on the road to recovery but I know in my heart that it will stick.. the encounter that I had with this facility that my friend didn't even get to attend will be a lasting result of Total recovery. Thanks to the edge we finally have answers. Thanks to the edge my friend found the place that he needed to be and the help he needed. I genuinely am grateful and thankful and so is my friend's entire family. Without the edge coming in and helping us I don't know where we would be today. Amazing staff. The staff here are all amazing and willing to help whenever you ask for help. The chefs: Tiffany and Mike really get down and make some really delicious meals for breakfast lunch and dinner. The nurses Michelle and Amy make sure you take your meds whenever needed and also make check in with you every morning to see if your having withdrawal symptoms such as night terrors, using dreams, tremors, anxiety, depression, all that stuff that you don’t want to feel when you’re withdrawing and they make sure you are prescribed the right meds to prevent all those things. The case workers Alejandra and Angela work above and beyond to make sure everything you need is taken care of. Angela is also the educator and teaches some really informative group classes that help you understand your disease. And the rest of the staff are all amazing and I’m really going to miss all of you! Claudia and Valerie are really sweet and kind and funny. I always looked forward to seeing them at the facility. Dan and RayRay and Joe are all very personable and will give you some of the best advice and it’s only up to you to decide if you wanna take it and run with it. Both the individual and group sessions were meaningful, supportive, and focused on the issues I needed to work on. The staff truly listened and helped me develop the tools I needed for my recovery. The program itself was well organized and kept us engaged with healthy activities, including walks, gym time, arts and crafts, outings, movies, bowling, AA meetings, and other events. There was always something positive and productive to do. The food deserves special recognition as well. The chef consistently prepared healthy, delicious meals that made us feel cared for and at home. The medical team was amazing and went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. I was impressed by the level of care and support available throughout my stay. One thing that makes Whiteside Manor truly special is that the support doesn’t end when the program does. Even after completing treatment, I continue to work with a therapist and still feel welcomed and supported by the staff. That kind of ongoing care is rare and means a great deal.
