This place was a huge stepping stone in my husband’s recovery. When he showed up to midway, he was a broken man, but he had an open mind and wanted better. The women at this establishment fed that want until it became a need. They nourished the seed in him until he grew and he passes that love that they instilled in him to the young men that are beginning their roads today by going back and sharing his story. He’s now almost 4 years clean. If you have a friend, family member, or you are struggling with deciding on a treatment facility, please choose midway. In the WellStar hospitals, people have to wait three days to be sent out -- Pinewoods makes that easier, you don't have to go anywhere but Pinewoods. They are open 24/7 days a week. You also can bypass being treated like a barnyard animal, wearing scrubs and using a paper blanket to cover up with. If the nerves are bad with a Patient, the last thing they want to be is in an isolation cell, hear others screaming in the cell next door, and feel judged by the sitters and doctors. Wonderful place. I came in with nothing but a hat and a dead cellphone, wearing only hospital paper clothes. The techs made sure I had clothes and shoes when they took me home and they helped me with a 30 day supply of medicine. I learned a lot in group therapy and they made it fun. From the start of my visit it was amazing. The nurse Kourtney was super friendly and professional. Dr. Clark was extremely pleasant and so helpful. She provided me with so much information to assist me and she addressed all my concerns that were always avoided by the VA. I can’t express how amazing they were. She told me her husband is a veteran so she has true compassion for the things we go through and the VA needs more people like her. I can’t brag about my experience enough. TO EVERYONE READING THESE REVIEWS! If you are scared for yourself or your child’s experience there either remember or remind them this: Riverwoods is a place that is full of pain and a lot of trauma but it also filled with a lot of joy, remember on your first day (including intake) it will be hard and scary and frustrating as hell but you’ll get through it, if you need to cry then cry if you need to sit in a cornor and be silent do that. The second day will be easier you will start to understand the way of the unit you will start to learn what staff are cool and which aren’t and you’ll learn which people are not necessarily cool to be around and you’ll find a certain person who just don’t seem to friendly but you will identify cool people, and if you can gather the strength on the third day to find your people and find the joy that is in the hospyou WILL be okay, DO NOT LET THE OTHER PEOPLES ENERGY RUIN YOUR STAY! You are not there because you are the same as the person sitting next to you but you are there to find a way to relate to each other and support each other, don’t be a mean girl mind your Ps & Qs focusing on getting out will only make it harder focus on getting better not out focus on finding the light that DOES shine in the darkness. Riverwoods was the greatest gift I’ve ever been given twice! (shoutout Miss ruby, Miss Jay and Miss Day, Miss Abina, Nurse Lisa and Miss Ale and Mr Xion, Emma g from intake and the scheduling lady and Cheryl? Is her name I think the case worker, and Monica at reception, and Dr dennis o Brien and his Nurse practitioner and Terrell and the other therapist lady and the rec therapist guy that looks like Michael b Jordan, both Malik’s and even sleepy ((he knows who he is))Mimi Nd chef and all the kitchen staff, Enrique, the kitchen, Dana the dietitian and all the cleaning staff and maintenance staff) all those people are people you should look out for they’re the ones that care and I’m sorry to all yall if I forgot you but you will find them all on your own Miri Goldberg 3 months ago I had a relatively ok experience here… I was sent here from another city on a 1013 hold because they had space for me when the closer facilities were full… I didn’t like sitting in a room for several hours before being taken to the unit… I was on the legacy unit which seems to be praised as the best unit and calmer unit and it was for the most part… I loved some of the techs, social worker, and the group therapist… i benefited from groups the most… what I didn’t like was there was one violent patient that attacked several patients and staff which made my anxiety worse but the staff made sure to ensure me I was safe and eventually had the patient removed… after that I had no issues other than I felt I was released before I should have been but I managed and it felt kind of prison like but having a set structured schedule through out the day is good as opposed to being allowed to sit and color all day… I didn’t like that the rooms were locked all day and my first day there I just wanted to sleep because I hadn’t slept for two days prior and I had a headache but was forced to stay out the room due to having to have a Dr’s order for everything… overall I had a decent experience and if necessary I’d request return here if my local facility is full… Mariea Johnson 3 months ago I was so afraid of coming here because of the reviews. & to be honest the intake process was HORRIBLE. I mean they cause me more anxiety than I came there with. BUT I have to shout out the outpatient program. Especially Ms. Janet. She has been a great leader and counselor and has helped me so much in this journey with my mental health. I’ve connected with a lot of people here and I am so thankful that I gave this place a chance. I do believe they need better systems in place. My mother found the closest place, via recommendation from a school counselor, and I have been with them since 2020 I believe. I have since become clean from many self harming behaviors, as well as went into therapy which has helped me so much. I absolutely love Natalie the therapist, she is such a good therapist and I enjoy talking to her even if it’s just about random things sometimes instead of therapy. My psychiatrist has had her moments, and I’m on the edge about switching honestly, but regardless she has helped me get onto some of the right medications and has tried her best to keep me up to date with bloodwork to check for any major concerns regarding my medication. And I appreciate her efforts to help me. I’ve switched through nurses about twice, but my new nurse Dale is wonderful. She’s gentle when taking blood, which is wonderful since I’m prone to passing out!! And she is funny, she has a very uplifting personality from what I can tell. The staff is really nice and helpful. It was my first time in a place like this and it was absolutely not like anything seen on TV. We had three meals throughout the day and even a snack in the evening. If you didn't need medication they didn't force it down your throat. People don't walk around like zombies and really express themselves when they feel like it. If you're a smoker, they give you smoke breaks. You can't go out whenever you want but at least they allow you to have them. If you do what you're suppose to do, meaning; not showing out and actually following the rules, your time there will go by smoothly. The only downside is not being able to go to your room throughout the day. Like if you're tired, you would have to stay out in the community room and find a place to nap.
