I am very pleased with the care I am receiving at PBH in Decatur. I went to another facility in my area and felt like I was a experiment because they couldn’t get my medications right. The last counselor that I had their seemed like she didn’t have much experience with adult problems. My counselor here at PBH not only is listening to the train wreck my life has become, but she’s giving me the tools to get things back on track. Highly, highly recommend!!! And the NP actually know what she is doing and let’s me make decision about my care. It’s nice to know that my voice is not only being heard but respected.

I moved here from out of state 3 years ago and had been recieving the same medication for my anxiety and panic attacks for over 20 years. This woman refuses to give me the medicine that I've had continually for all those years. She OUT RIGHT LIED to me about this medication. She said it is Not used for Long term care... even tho i was perscribed it for 20+ years. I have been using them with out asking for increased dosage or amounts. Now, I have become her testing project. How can refusing a patient a medication that Works be how someone conducts their practice. I have gone in 3 times over a 2.5 year period begging to be put back on my regular regimen and have been refused. I would not recommend her to Anyone. I feel absolutely ignored by her and do not trust a word that she says, after all she LIED to my face.

Failure to provide advance cancellation results in policy of non ability to reschedule future appointment. Future appointments must be on a "walk-in" basis, depending on chance of available time openings during certain hours. It is very important and necessary to make every effort to keep or cancel scheduled appointments in advance. Especially known unable to attend or have no intention to keep the scheduled appointment. There are people that care here, both residents and staff. I'm 7 years sober today. Because of grace. In order to overcome many addictions you have to separate. So far in my experience everything has been fantastic. The entire vibe is great and safe, the front desk staff are angels, and both my psychiatrist (Leah Sands) and therapist (Amber Gibson) have been very respectful, intelligent, and very good listeners. I can't wait to continue my healing journey.

I have been a patient at Bowen for almost 4 years. In those four years I have been seeing Michelle Para and Shannon Walter-Harvey. Both are true assets to the company. From the receptionist, to the medical assistants/nurses to the providers I have always received compassionate care. I’ll admit it hasn’t been perfect, some wait times go over but they are always there.
I have never felt judged or let down while going to Bowen. They have helped me during some of my most unlovable times and saw me through my sobriety and for that I thank you! Mental health is a difficult beast to deal with and takes time and I feel people don’t always realize that.
If you are looking for quality and compassion this is an excellent resource. Thank you for all you do!

Everybody's generally friendly! Sometimes the staff have off days but for the most part they really go above and beyond! Kind of wish you'd get a greeting when you walk in the door or even a wait here sign would be nice. Regardless they've really helped me!

I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am for the care I received at the veteran clinic yesterday. 05/27/25 I had accidentally left my effexor in another city and hadn’t taken it in three days (please don’t EVER do this!), I was a complete wreck, both physically and emotionally. I rushed to the clinic in a bad state, and even though they were clearly understaffed, everyone treated me with such compassion and urgency.
I especially want to thank the pharmacy tech working at the desk by the windows. I was crying, struggling, and deep in withdrawal symptoms, but she never once made me feel judged or invalidated. she was kind, patient, and truly went above and beyond to help me get what I needed. her empathy meant everything to me in that moment.
I also want to shout out the woman who helped with registration. she was calm, efficient, and kind, which really helped ease some of my anxiety.
I left that clinic feeling heard, cared for, and supported. thank you so much to the team for taking care of us!!!!

I recently had a relative who needed mental help, but was scared to do so. The Coping center made this process so much easier. The nurses, doctors, and entire staff were so wonderful. I cannot say enough about how they helped and treated him with respect.

After going through one of the scariest experiences of my entire life, and waiting in what felt like a limbo-esque ER, I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am for Coping Center. The staff immediately were warm and welcoming, ready to help me work through what I was struggling with, even at my arrival time of 10:30pm. As someone who was nervous looking at other reviews and the lack of information about the schedule on the website, hopefully I can clear up some concerns.
1. There is a daily schedule, lasting from roughly 7/9am to 8pm. It is often subject to change, and you are encouraged to attend group sessions, but not required. (The first day I slept mostly, but I'm glad I started to attend them on my 2nd day because it helped more than I thought it would)
2. You can call anyone from 6am to 10pm, and can even set it up so that certain people can call YOU. There is also visitation from 4 to 5 EVERY DAY, but it can only be one person who is 18 or older.
3. Yes, your phone will be taken away. They will let you write down numbers before they do. Honestly, aside from the logistical concerns of patients having phones, it was kind of nice to totally detach from the stressors of the online world and social media for a few days.
4. The accommodations are great, especially for a hospital, but be prepared to sleep a bit uncomfortable. Bring some clothes going in, or try and get people to drop them off shortly after arrival. You'll have to wear scrubs at first, but 24 hours in you can change into streetwear. Make sure none of it has strings, or they will need to cut it off.
5. The food is better than what I was expecting, but don't be looking for a gourmet experience. Order as much food as you can every meal, as you never know when you might be craving a snack.
6. All of the staff were absolutely incredible, but huge shoutouts to Sam, Chey, Alyssia (?), and Dr. Mercado for being extremely personable and ready to help anyone through whatever they were working through.
7. Go in hoping not for a cure or immediate treatment, but ready to look inward and take the time to learn what you need. I know that for people struggling with mental illness, such as myself, it can sometimes be hard to see that you need help, or be willing to accept it. I could have shut everything out and hunkered down, but then I wouldn't have had change and gotten the chance to see my cat again so soon!
8. Read, read, read! Yes, I am a former book lover who has gotten back into it, but reading truly saved me during my time here. Yes the groups were great, the people were kind, and the TV was enticing, but while you read, you make notes of what is happening in the literature and often get to think about your OWN story.
Though I am glad to be home, I will in the weirdest way miss the comforting and routine structure of the Coping Center. I hope to be able to give back some day!

*PLEASE READ!!* I struggled with addiction and mental health for the last 10 years. In and out of rehab, hospitals, a never ending struggle. The coping center is THE FIRST place that actually made a difference. The doctor, the therapists, the nurses, everyone- were BEYOND supportive and knowledgeable of their jobs.
Frankly, I’m shocked at some of the low reviews on here…if anything- I’d say it CLEARLY comes from disgruntled patients who weren’t ready to change or take genuine responsibility for themselves. Let’s not forget, the patients here have to be willing to change, if they aren’t willing, then no place will help them. Excuses won’t allow you to heal properly. How do I know this? Because I did it for the last decade of my life. Complaining about them “not releasing you”- is their way to love and protect you if you can’t do it yourself yet. Personally, I think is tragic people want to discredit this place- because I know it can help so many people like me.
This is an individual journey, and a REAL CHANCE to learn how to love & put yourself first. This place gives you that opportunity!!! I’d give more than 5 stars if I could. If you need help, or someone you love needs help- save yourself time and send them here! It was a blessing, and I can’t brag enough! Thank you to everyone at the coping center for changing my life, and finally giving me the chance to live life the way I deserve to, and the chance to love my family the way they deserve to be loved!!!

I love this place depends who you get when it comes to counceling some are better than others there. But I have a lady that has helped me in more ways than one and went beyond her duties there and helps my kids out and me when I need the help and shes so informative and helpful and knows all the resources auburn has to offer I wish more ppl cared about their jobs like sandy does ! As a former school psychologist, I would never recommend this agency to anyone.
I have been with them since 2016 and they have caused so much trauma by violating my client rights. I have spent over a year trying to get them to acknowledge and fix the issues. It got so bad that I had to file an official grievance with Kevin , the client rights officer, but he never wrote it down. Months later I filed my grievance with Anita, who didn’t originally allow me to file it, saying there wasn’t anything to be done. Then they told me they didn’t find evidence of the violations I reported and has proof of. I then appealed it and we had a meeting in July, where they suddenly found these violations I reported, and encouraged me to move on from it. Nothing was done to fix what they did. In November I met again with them and ADAMHS and they again promised to do better. Yesterday they told me I would have a therapy appointment that was discussed in November and they surprised me with a different appointment and called it a miscommunication. Lisa Carter, the CEO, has been aware of all of this. Most violations were blamed on me for most of the time I have been there. The most serious was them not providing me services for months were I lost resources because I didn’t have help. The resources are still lost.

Huge stepping stone for my life. I’ve been to a lot of places in my history of addiction/recovery and this was the one place I actually felt like I was equal. The staff go above and beyond for legit anything you need or struggle with. I never once felt alone. Most places and people in recovery are there for a paycheck, this place? The absolute opposite. Dawg this was one of the scariest yet BEST decisions I made for my recovery journey as well as myself. The love and care is endless.

Before Selah, I had several experiences at trauma centers that made me questioned if I ever wanted to get help or if my recovery was worth it.
I was admitted to Selah in Summer 2023 and 2024. I learned to advocated for myself and others. Shout out to nurse Mary Adkins and Kenzie, therapists Emily and Marice! Without them I would of left Selah. I was panicking, didn't feel heard and my dietian left for a different practice. There was so many changes that happened when I was there in 2024. But overall for me, what I gained from both experience was "trust" from the clinical staff at Selah. Trust the process. I have never had that before.

So glad to hear recently therapist Emily is taking over Christian Programming. One of the reasons I looked more into Selah was faith programming. On Sundays, I always looked forward to church in residential and php.

selah may not have been able to heal me from my eating disorder, not because their work and people aren’t great, but i believe because i have very deep internal issues i’ve struggled to work on myself for years. the program improved a lot from 2022 to 2024 (my two stays). obviously the program had its issues and iffy staff members, but overall the nurses and techs made me feel so loved. nancy, hailey, sydney, jess, christi, maggie, marcie, kati and chris the chaplain are amazing people. thank you guys for making me feel like a person.

The lodge has an incredible staff of counselors and techs that absolutely cares about your recovery in a woodsy and relaxing environment that has access to a gym and 24 hour availability to people who can help with any issue that you might be having with recovery and access to food 24 hours a day ( so watch the belt line ) . Although the schedule is demanding they have a way of making seem that it is not over bearing ... They changed and saved my life and I know the staff can do the same for you if you want it ... Wonderful staff. They really want to see you get better. Only downfall is that there are some patients that can be unruly or are just there to detox and not actually heal themselves. If you just had to be there because of court and didn’t care then your time is gonna suck. Most if not all staff cared about their job, and the patients. I got a lot out of it. I would suggest using another center. The scheduling is a nightmare with numerous calls made to me to reschedule my appointments , each time pushing it back 2 or more weeks. I do not believe this is a good practice for business of any kind let alone a counseling service. I am also a self pay meaning I pay cash for each 1 hour visit and the sessions have been shortened to 45 minutes. I do not believe this center has my best interests in mind. They only want my money.

I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am for the care I received at the veteran clinic yesterday. 05/27/25 I had accidentally left my effexor in another city and hadn’t taken it in three days (please don’t EVER do this!), I was a complete wreck, both physically and emotionally. I rushed to the clinic in a bad state, and even though they were clearly understaffed, everyone treated me with such compassion and urgency.
I especially want to thank the pharmacy tech working at the desk by the windows. I was crying, struggling, and deep in withdrawal symptoms, but she never once made me feel judged or invalidated. she was kind, patient, and truly went above and beyond to help me get what I needed. her empathy meant everything to me in that moment.
I also want to shout out the woman who helped with registration. she was calm, efficient, and kind, which really helped ease some of my anxiety.
I left that clinic feeling heard, cared for, and supported. thank you so much to the team for taking care of us!!!!
