Any time I miss an appointment they get me in the next day or sometimes later that same day, and they’re really understanding when that happens, I’ve never had an issue with scheduling. At this graduation, the valedictorian's name was Henry. He read a speech to the members in the audience and after his speech, he read a break up letter to the drug that had him in bondage for so many years. In this letter he reminisced on the good times they experienced, the great times with the women and the important life events he missed while being under the influence of this drug. The saying "all good things, must come to an end" was evident while he read this letter to the crowd. Henry decided that Harbor Light Center was going to be his home to assist him with obtaining and maintaining his sobriety. He thanked the caring and loving staff for they way they made him well welcomed on his first day. The Harbor Light Center is the truly place for New Beginnings, and I was honored to witness that Henry and the rest of his graduating class achieved their New Beginning at The Harbor Light Center. From the facilitators (Kennedy, Joy, Cat, Rose) program (Jake from state farm) and clinical (Madelyn) director to the techs, (Reagen the stallion, Jamie, Ashley, Naomi, & Jamie #2) case managers (Mr. Brady, Kolby) and therapist (Taylor gang, G-reg, Courtney, Stephanie) every person I interacted with genuinely contributed to such a positive and high-quality treatment experience. I felt supported, heard, and cared for throughout my time there. The women’s house was absolutely amazing. It was clean, comfortable, and felt like a safe place to come home to after a difficult day. One thing that really stood out to me was that many of the techs are also in recovery themselves. The lead techs, Carla, Cece, and Theresa made such a difference for me because there was a level of understanding and relatability that made the environment feel more like home. I never felt judged or like I had to explain myself to someone who couldn’t understand what I was going through. The outreach coordinator (Jay) was also incredible. Every two weeks, he would come to the house and bring restaurant food for everyone, which was such a thoughtful touch and gave us something to look forward to. More importantly, he made an effort to build genuine relationships with us while we were in the program. Because of that, reaching out for support after leaving didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable—I already had a relationship and felt comfortable contacting him when I needed help. Overall, this program gave me so much more than treatment. It gave me a sense of community, accountability, support, and connection. I am incredibly grateful for the people who poured into me during my time there and helped make what can be an incredibly difficult chapter feel a little less overwhelming. She will work with you, to let you talk about what you’re going through and has so much wisdom it amazes me how she is able to encourage individuals in the group. I think we have one of the best nurse practitioners I’ve ever met, her name is Eve.. She takes the time to get to know you and really cares about how you’re doing and what your needs are. When I first arrived, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. It definitely wasn’t anything like what you see portrayed in movies. The entire experience was much more therapeutic and supportive than I anticipated. We were provided with great meals and snacks, and there were opportunities throughout the day to journal, participate in group activities, and connect with others. We were also able to make phone calls during designated times. The doctors and nurses were absolutely phenomenal. Everyone made me feel supported and cared for during a time when I truly needed it. I was prescribed an antidepressant that I took for about three months, and it became part of the support I received while working toward a better place mentally. Fast forward a year later, and I can honestly say that I am in such a great headspace. I’m incredibly grateful for the help and care I received during one of the hardest moments in my life.
