(because I went through that at another place…and I’m a feisty, rebellious performer, who fell all the way to hell through my addiction.) Moving Mountains is an adventure based program. And that's not just "fun." that’s a major part of the treatment…hiking, skiing, ropes course…Healthy risks…Movement. self Mastery. Making something…learning that I can DO things that make me feel better…They teach you how to deal with crap on the deepest levels, to get it out. So like…in my case…there is less to want to escape. Easier to stay sober. Joy…peace…fun. Stress: life. Tools Sobriety doesn't have to be gray and grim. It can light up your brain as much as getting high did. I mean that…kinda literally. Skydiving…for real…if you do the work…it’s part of the program. At completion. It's not a "creative arts program." BUT: creative work is an option. For me it was a key. A Big key. I had no idea how much my creative shutdown and grief were feeding my addiction…really, almost no idea. I am a singer. And I saw people transform through singing (like me…), guitar, piano, making beats, DJing, poetry, dance, voice work...even building comedy routines. You could literally see someone's eyes and posture shift over days. The staff are Actually client centered. At Moving mountains, that means you're treated like a human being. Not a diagnosis and not a compliance project. They help you remember want you want, connect you to your dreams again. They don't “punish you into right thinking.” That’s still a very common approach, I’ve heard from so many people in recovery meetings. But there are boundaries and clear expectations...because that's what actually leads to an easier, fun life. I was not the easiest client. I had to learn to be patient and respectful…not just to others. To myself. It's also not 12 step only preaching club. Super strong recovery culture...but you're allowed to explore what works for you, (there's even a Zen teacher who comes!) The housing is for real beautiful and in beautiful communities. The nurse Sydney is absolutely the sweetest person you'll ever meet. I went there over a year ago and and she remembered me and made sure my stay there was comfortable. Unfortunately I've stayed at quite a few other facilities and NEVER was treated with such respect and kindness that she treated me with. She deserves a raise lol! On the other hand..I made a very good friend in my time staying there..we kept in touch and we were both struggling. I was trying to be a good girlfriend and put my own health aside waiting waiting for him. I now know know that I need further assistance than just detox . He's not even. Being a decent human being/and/or being nice about it. I tried called the Sterling location 5 times where my friend is. She told me there is in IN FACT beds available but the person on the phone wasnt so friendly..almost demeaning. He said "just because there's beds available doesn't mean there's beds available". I was very confused...almost like he didn't want to help me save my life. And he was just annoyed to be answering the phone. He told me over and over in an annoyed and stern voice as I was in tears to call back at 9am. However, I especially enjoyed my internships in Pastoral Care, Nursing Education, Human Resources, Pre-Admission, and Nursing Administration. I found the departments I enjoyed to be meaningful learning experiences, and I appreciated the chance to build workplace skills in a hospital setting. It took time for me to become comfortable socially in the program, but I later formed positive connections with other participants. I am giving 4 stars because the program offered valuable hands-on experience and several strong internship opportunities, although better matching of internships to each student’s career interests would make the experience even better. I can’t say enough wonderful things about High Focus. When I first came here I didn’t know what to expect or really didn’t think it would help me but I was wrong. High Focus has helped me in more ways than I could ever expect. Every single staff member that works there was so helpful, supportive, and understanding throughout my time there. Throughout my time here, I have learned so much knowledge, coping skills, and life skills that I will use in my life. One thing I especially appreciated and loved about High Focus was how the program was structured as during the PHP portion in the morning, everyone would come together in the large room and then during the IOP portion in the afternoon, patients ages 18-30 would go in the smaller room for the first two groups while adults ages 30 and up would be in the larger room. For the final group of the day, Mental Health and Substance Use patients were separated into two different rooms as Mental Health would be in the larger room as Substance Use would be in the smaller room. I really appreciated that because it allowed people to be around others who were experiencing similar struggles and could also relate to what they were going through. For the first time in a long time I truly have a positive mindset and feel like I have the skills and tools I can use when I am having a bad day or a bad time in my life. I am so grateful that I found High Focus and that I did this program. I highly recommend going to High Focus in Parsippany because it will truly help you. Trust me you will not regret it!!!!! The level of trust Ashleigh instilled in us was priceless while navigating my father’s death. Ashleigh was so in tuned to my dad and able to “treat” him so appropriately in his final days. Ashleigh gave us a safe place to ask questions, share observations, and participate in his care. while her expertise supported my father in his last moments, she also was regularly checking in with us to make sure we were well supported during this difficult time. First of all, having been in different locations so far this hospital has far been the best compared to others. I know that hospitals like their psych units often get a bad rep, hence the many negative reviews. I gotta praise the cleanliness of this place. The custodians take effort in cleaning at least once a day, such as the rooms and hallways. The staff were nice and caring such as nurses, social workers, doctors, OTs and behavioral health workers. They actually treat patients as actual human beings. My stay was pretty short, but it was the first time I got out stable and content after this stay despite my minimal time here.
