Three interactions with this hospital. All of them have been so helpful and kind. Of course there is bustle, and things need to get done, put everyone seems to be doing their best and treats you like a person rather than a number. Jack Brown Center helps Native American juveniles to stop an active addiction while learning to live and cope without the source for the addiction. The staff that was there during my stay was an exceptional group of people. A day is always busy with a large variety of activities such as basketball, kickball, weight lifting, trust fall, disc golf, 12 step meeting's, chess, billiards, Native American chants, going in a Cherokee(I think) sweat lodge, help cooking meals once earned, learning to sew, and my favorite game we referred to as, hoccer, which involved a massive 5' or 6' yoga like ball. At the time I didn't always see it, but the rules were reasonable and helpful such as room had to stay clean, bed was made daily and one form of discipline for breaking rules was to write out a given sentence about the infraction many times. I was even allowed to paint the Choctaw nation seal on the wall while there, although my time was done before I was able to finish so hopefully someone else did. This changed my life drastically and I am always thankful for my experience at the Jack Brown Center!

I have been all over The United States trying to find good crisis and mental health care for my loved ones. (For years now.)
The crisis unit in Jay, the staff, therapists, doctor or doctors, case workers, after care, are the very best. They should be funded to the max and expanded to teach other care givers in this Country, how to help people who suffer with mental illness.

Its been 5 years since I was a patient here, but my experience was very impactful and I wanted to share now that im an adult. Also want to note my younger sister has been in recent years and shares my positive experiences. Growing up I went inpatient a lot and was very troubled, I felt hopeless and scared. The Calm Center does not just slap a label on kids and teens like some other facilities in the area, the staff are understanding, patient and compassionate people who are relatable in many ways and teach actual coping skills that help in day to day life. I believe forgive me if I get names wrong but Mr. Corey does groups that I still think about to this day that taught me lessons and helped me see different perspectives. Mr. Jimmy and one of the Therapists Spencer were also very kind to me and helped me realize that there are safe, kind, and caring men in the world. Growing up I had a very complicated relationship with my father, and I had talked a bit about that when I was there. Nearly every day I smile or sometimes cry when I recall that at my leaving ceremony Mr. Jimmy told me that any man should be proud to have me as a daughter, I wish I could express how much that has impacted and healed me. Thank you guys for all you do for the youth of Tulsa and beyond!

Here’s a version that reflects what actually happened while keeping the humor tasteful:
I had to adjust it a bit since your mom was the patient, not you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Talk about terrible timing! On a 12-hour drive through Oklahoma, I got pulled over thanks to what feels like 100 different speed limit changes from 65 mph to 45 mph. While I was on the side of the road, my mother—who was my passenger—ended up being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
When I arrived, Dr. Jeff, Doug, and Nick were absolutely incredible. They were kind, compassionate, quick, and took great care of my mom during an already stressful situation. They even joked that my speeding was what sent her to the hospital, and that little bit of humor was exactly what we needed to break the tension.
Their professionalism, bedside manner, and genuine kindness made a difficult day much easier. I can’t thank Dr. Jeff, Doug, and Nick enough for taking such wonderful care of my mother. If you’re ever in need of their services, I highly recommend them.
I hope the next time I drive through Oklahoma, the only surprise is a good cup of coffee—not another 65-to-45 speed limit change!
