I know it's weird to say that I would miss this treatment facility Residential Heartland/Gilman. I would not be honest from the very beginning. Staff was attentive and warm towards shame and guilt. Shout out to The Nurses and Bht's, kitchen staff. If it weren't for this place who knows. Silas, Maggie Mike and Heather. And Kevin, Kimber. Kayla. Ash,Ty, Christian. And Todd. Oh and The food was great. Especially "The Better than Sex Cake. I would not be sober now if it weren't for all of Banyan Team. Transport as well. Luke,Rich,Pete. Stay Golden. Sincerely,Marco.

I had a great experience at Banyan Heartland, upon going in I was struggling very much but gained hope and confidence quick. I loved the people and the housing and food was great. Heather the case manager, and Randy the therapist were the best and very helpful. Banyan also helped my family learn and understand recovery and improved all our relationships

I was here from 2004-2007. My experience here was very different from where I had been previous places. You re out I m the middle of nowhere removed from your family,friends and most likely where you grew up at. When I first got there you were introduced to your administration for your program. I was put on program 2 the NFL floor I don t know if it s called that now, but that s what it was called when I was there. My first few weeks there took some getting use to, very restrictive setting everything you do here is about accountability which in return taught youth here responsibility. The way the program is setup is strict as well everything you do is monitored by staff and higher admins. The room you get is a decent size one bed a dresser and a cabinet dresser to hang coats or bigger items. And a table and chair in there as well. The bathroom was in the hallway there was 2 of them, bathroom was pretty big too stand up shower sink toilet the basics. The floor itself is pretty spacious it could accommodate I would say 40-50 people at any given time. There was one room we called quads you got to earn that room to be able to sleep in a room with 3 other individuals which was considered a luxury well earned. A typical day consisted of waking doing your morning routine ie: washing up,showering using the rest room. When going anywhere we had to line up in a single file line to they could pretty much do count. You would head downstairs to the cafeteria to eat breakfast majority of the time you got to sit where you wanted. Lunch was the same and so wasn t dinner. The food wasn t too horrible at times. I would rate the food 7 out of 10. Your typical day consisted of group therapy, 1 on 1 with a therapist or counselor aka staff member. The people I had on my floor were Jim Herder, Mike Cordetti, bill Featherstone, and cannot for the life of me remember the lady s name who was our administrator for our floor. But they were tough people but at the end of the day they cared for you. Hats just my personal opinion from interactions with them. Oh her name was Rhonda lol. You got to watch tv but some channels or movies were restricted the same went for music,magazines, and photos. We had sports teams, track soccer softball, basketball. They had a swimming pool don t if it s actually usable anymore because of problems they were having at the time with it. At onarga it s about earning everything because when you come there you re don t get to do whatever you want until you ve earned. It s a system that they go by, it all ties into your groups, staff interactions, peer interactions and what you re there for. I was able to achieve NFL veteran status before I left which was a tough task and grind. They don t give it to you easy I got turned down a few times along the way, but I kept pushing because I wanted to be the first person to achieve such a feat. It was very rewarding for me in the long run. Your main objective is to make your way over to the independent living program across the street from the main campus. Which is what a lot of guys should ve been working towards. Everything wasn t always perfect you seen fights, you heard of in appropriate actions, and a whole bunch of code reds. There was a third shifter who there by the name of Joe farmer who I didn t like at first but after him and I got to know each other we turned out to be I would say good friend. Dale was one of the best, Melissa, Arami, Carl who we called Pelon which is bald man in Spanish lol. There s a few others as well but I can t recall their names. The school system quite honestly from a person who lived there and went to the school on campus and Iroquois west high school. The schools are night and day compared to one another. I thought it was a joke and I m sure I wasn t the only. I m not saying that the teachers were bad it s just not your regular school that s all. I would like to come back to Onarga academy or nexus academy and talk to the young man that are there now.

I stayed here for a while back in 2013 to 2015 but tbh the worst thing about this place is the manipulation from us kids that were there.... I'm takin responsibility for all the trouble I caused while I was there and do sincerely apologize for all of it and just wanted to say for the P3 staff that remember me 😆 Hiiiii 👋 I'm living my best life I got my Ls got a car got a dog and a house I have 2 jobs and am doing amazing 👏 I honestly owe it all to you guys cuz I think back to all our groups and stuff when I'm goin thru sum I explore new coping skills and invest time in doin key things that help me .... so thank you all .... My conditions are quite severe; as I say so myself. I have been in and out of psychiatrists and therapists since 1990 (age 3). Countless diagnoses, countless disappointments. I admit I can be a lot to handle, I push all buttons I can when I am having an episode. However, this office and ALL of its staff (including the crisis line) is more than qualified and caring to help even the most severe cases. Every time I’ve been in the office, spoken in person or on the phone, they show nothing but respect and empathy. Even in moments when a regular person would yell back, they stay calm. They even provide help in between visits! I’ve never had a facility that accepts state aid be so amazingly helpful. 32 years old and this office must have been sent from heaven; because in 24 years of being mentally ill, I have finally find doctors who genuinely want to see their patients get better.

The food is great and the staff hold you accountable, the facility could be a little bit cleaner but with one cleaning lady who puts in a lot of work what do you expect.This facility makes you feel like you will be ready to get out there on your own and succeed on your recovery journey.

I can't stand the negative reviews. YES I WAS THERE. Six months ago, I almost didn't stay but I did. Such incredible staff and an incredible program. Met some of the greatest people to ever want to change their life around. Residential was amazing. PHP also an incredible program attended both with full support from all staff and peers. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RECOVERY WORKS TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BETTER THEMSELVES.

I have been seeing my psychiatrist there for 3 years. Dr. Godbolt is great! She takes her time and has given me a new hope on life. NOW, The after hours answering service is another story! They rarely pass your message to your Dr. They are very disrespectful. I just called the answering service a few minutes ago. I have terrible insomnia and I've been awake for 3 days. I'm hallucinating because I have been up for so long. At first she was not going to contact my doctor because she said they don't do psychiatry after hours.. what is that? Then I told her that I have been awake for 3 days and I am starting to hallucinate and she said hold on came back two minutes later and said you know what just call back at 8:30 in the morning that's all I can do for you. Something just doesn't seem right there

I’ve seen some of the negative reviews here, and I wanted to share a different perspective. This is difficult work. The staff often meet people on some of the hardest days of their lives, and those situations aren’t always easy. I’ve personally seen staff deal with some incredibly difficult circumstances, and I’ve been impressed by the patience, kindness, and professionalism they show. Are things always perfect? Of course not. But there are a lot of really good people here who care about what they do and genuinely want to help. I think that deserves to be said, too.

Let me just say I was a patient at Medmark for years and above everything no matter what because they open at 4:45 AM says it all. They generally want to meet everyday people’s needs to live a normal life.In and out the door before 5am to do what you need to do w your life. Try and find another clinic that does that for you. You won’t. Working men and women this your clinic. Just no weed. Sorry.

I do not typically do these reviews however I felt very strongly I needed to. I have been in the program for over 7 years. The program honestly saved my life after trying several other things. My addiction became like most had back problems and my doctors were very free to prescribe the opioids and benzodiazepines. Xanax was actually the worst for me hospitalized for over 10 days due to all the seizures. Anyways the nurses Yolanda Jackie Val are sweethearts and have never judged me once. Yolanda is the one person who always tells me she is proud of me I don’t even hear that from family. Kim who runs front desk is also great. In my experience I have had around 6 counselors and sorry to say this is the downfall here. I don’t know if they are overworked micromanaged or just don’t care but I have had to go elsewhere for my counseling. I have promise for my new counselor April who is new to this location. Since starting she has been on top on my case not letting anything slide. She gets accomplished what the 5 others took months to do and I appreciate that. Non judgmental follow-up and just caring she accomplishes where most can’t and this is what keeps me clean and alive and I thank her for that more than I can say. Doctor is a different story for a different day I will just say to the women ask that a third person be in the room. That’s all!

My dad went to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL and was on the Inpatient Adult Psych Behavioral Health Unit to detox from alcohol. The Licensed Clinician / Social Worker provided individual counseling, group therapy, and a family session on alcohol and drug abuse during his stay. The stay staff all are hand picked the greatest. Counselors are all one of a kind especially if u get Mrs cora ball of energy and Elijah motivation that and others do care or Steve called my probation officer and help you get off probation concerned checking in on me the staff there want to see everyone who there that it possible to overcome anything we may have faced let it go and don't give up on our selves . Rated the 100 miss my fgc family even pres me prince understanding and encouraging nurses are the best ever also. I have been dealing with this place for 5 days trying to get a loved one help. I have been dealing with one person directly by the name of genell( spelling may be wrong) but this woman. Has been a absolute god send. Best inpatient facility I’ve been to. The Nurses are extremely friendly, helpful, & dedicated to attending to any and all of your needs. Compared to other for-profit treatment centers, their non-profit facility ensures that medical staff are focused on your recovery and wellbeing, rather than forcing you to stay longer than necessary in order to financially benefit their staff. Overall, I’d highly recommend treatment here if you’re struggling with your mental health.

This is the place to go to! The entire nursing group was amazing! I went under self submission and they made me feel like I was home. Everyone that I spoke with was nice and wanting to help the group sessions were very nice and helpful for me although I wanted more 1 on 1 they didn’t have a lot of people that were there. There was never any pushy aggressive behavior towards me as a patient. They have a zero tolerance for aggressiveness! I learned so much in such little time. The doctor was amazing as well! Very kind and very helpful! Madi needs a raise she is such a sweet person! Side note: they don’t allow smoking but do allow nicotine gum. Some places do not allow or allow too much. I believe this is a happy medium!

Amazing staff here like the RN Amy, the Social Worker Onka I believe is how you spell it, Adam and Mandi the techs, Dr. O and so many others! Gentle suggestion: more classical music and peaceful or positive shows on the TV (ghost rider was constantly showing because of one resident), a spiritual care department for those that need religious support and one on one counseling instead of just group therapy! I couldn't be more thankful even if I tried to Midwest for everything they did for my child. Always informed of how things were going. Some of the issues we had there weren't caused by staff but by other residents. The staff did what they could to keep everything at peace and help them use the skills they've been taught at the facility. I'm extremely thankful for the nurses and Meghan her therapist. Everyone we dealt with from front desk to the Doctor was amazing. Reading the reviews prior to admission I was absolutely terrified and hesitant, now I'm eternally grateful for Midwest.

As a parent currently navigating the incredibly difficult and emotional experience of having a child in inpatient behavioral treatment, I wanted to share a more balanced perspective regarding Midwest. Like many parents, I read the reviews before my son arrived and was absolutely terrified. While no facility is perfect, and this type of environment is extremely intense and constantly evolving, our experience so far has included several staff members whose passion, compassion, and dedication deserve recognition. Jasmine has been absolutely incredible. Her ability to balance the emotional needs of the patients while also managing staff and unit dynamics is something I genuinely admire. She listens, communicates honestly, remains calm under pressure, and approaches these kids with both accountability and compassion. Angie has such a calming and compassionate presence. You can genuinely feel that she cares deeply about the kids and the work she is doing. Cece has years of experience and taps into her mothering nature to provide a stable environment, often at the cost of the patients giving her flack for her consistency. She is a kind soul who has clearly dedicated herself to this type of work. Mama D has shown so much affection, concern, and dedication toward these boys. In an environment where many of these kids are struggling emotionally and behaviorally, that warmth matters more than people realize. Jamar has also stood out to me because of the stability and consistency he brings to the unit. At the same time, he still seems to understand that these are teenagers who occasionally need moments of laughter, flexibility, and normalcy within appropriate boundaries. Communication has been open throughout this process, although not always perfectly consistent, which honestly should be expected in a setting where staff are constantly navigating changing emotional, behavioral, and safety situations involving multiple adolescents at once. As a parent, this has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. But I also recognize how emotionally demanding this work is for the people caring for these kids every day. I simply wanted to acknowledge the staff members who have made a meaningful difference for our family during an incredibly difficult time. I will update this review once we have completed treatment there, but going on week four, I am very thankful that we ended up choosing Midwest. My son is always clean, has not complained about the facilities or the food, and he is a very picky eater. Yes, some of these reviews probably have some basis, especially those written by former patients. These kids are navigating very difficult emotions and issues in a world that I often find difficult to navigate even as an adult. There is no doubt in my mind that each of these kids is going to have a different experience and perspective while there and post-treatment. It is very much a situation where outcomes depend partly on whether the child is emotionally able and willing to engage in the work of treatment. Many are navigating medication changes, new diagnoses, changing home environments, and hormones all at the same time. It is a lot. I also wanted to add that our son brought up an issue with a staff member to us, and at first we took it with a grain of salt. After additional conversations, we began to believe there was merit to some of his concerns regarding this staff member. Jasmine handled this situation maturely and appropriately while balancing all sides of it. While I could understand my son's perspective, I have also grown to have deep care and concern for our mental health workers. This staff member is likely in need of a break from the unit she has been on for a lengthy amount of time, and this was addressed immediately before it spiraled into something bigger. So, if you're where we were a month ago, I get it. Take some deep, deep breaths, and make a call to Midwest and talk through your concerns. I think you will find that they are a very transparent behavioral health center that is constantly striving to improve.

Riverside is the best medical mental health facility I have ever stayed in in my life. My mother was beaten real bad and I was traumatized very bad. I slept in the bathroom and they were very patient with me. I learned a lot of coping skills with my mental health as well as skills that I still use today. The outpatient team was awesome and if I could put an awareness on people on the staff that were there when I was there. . My dad was admitted to Riverside for hallucinations and memory concerns. The nurses, doctors, and other staff members did an amazing job with him. They kept in constant touch with me via phone calls or in person and were very thoughtful listeners when we asked questions. He stayed for about 10 days and he thought his stay was very beneficial. He was in the geriatric unit. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to other elderly people who are having similar concerns as my dad. Thank you, Riverside.

If you know how to follow some simple rules & are genuinely serious about getting off opiates Duane Dean will save your life. It saved mine 17 years ago. Victoria is a fantastic nurse. You have to remember what she's dealing with. Junkies that are always trying to bend rules, manipulate people & drug tests, argue or just act immature. If your serious about recovery go to Duane Dean. If you think Methadone is "withdrawal insurance" don't waste everyone's time, stay on the street. It's not easy, but if your reading this,, it's probably time. Being a functional Junkie isn't easy either. Good Luck!!

IF you genuinely want help and are going to put in the work this place is a good place with various resources to assist people in various aspects of their lives. They provide the tools needed to live a sober life but YOU have to want it. Someone stated in a review it's an "addicts market", and I will say there are people there who are not serious in treatment and/or might only be there because they are forced and they do use the place to make more connections unfortunately. But again if you want the help and are serious about treatment this facility can and will provide you the tools to succeed. No one but YOU can do the work though. They offer groups Monday - Saturday (Parenting on Thursdays) and the groups are very helpful and beneficial (in my experience). Most of the staff are very professional, supportive, and caring.

The front desk staff is very professional understanding and friendly. These people really are there to help without any judgment. Believe me they have seen and heard it all so if you find yourself in a situation where you should see counseling do not hesitate to be open and honest with them. I went in with one attitude and came out a completely different person for the better. Big shout out to Kaitlyn and Jeff. You two are great and thankyou soo much for the clear thinking skills I have gained. I will carry everything I have learned from you two for the rest of my life. 6 stars if I could !!
