I was here from 2004-2007. My experience here was very different from where I had been previous places. You re out I m the middle of nowhere removed from your family, friends and most likely where you grew up at. When I first got there you were introduced to your administration for your program. I was put on program 2 the NFL floor I don t know if it s called that now, but that s what it was called when I was there. My first few weeks there took some getting use to, very restrictive setting everything you do here is about accountability which in return taught youth here responsibility. The way the program is setup is strict as well everything you do is monitored by staff and higher admins. The room you get is a decent size one bed a dresser and a cabinet dresser to hang coats or bigger items. And a table and chair in there as well. The bathroom was in the hallway there was 2 of them, bathroom was pretty big too stand up shower sink toilet the basics. The floor itself is pretty spacious it could accommodate I would say 40-50 people at any given time. There was one room we called quads you got to earn that room to be able to sleep in a room with 3 other individuals which was considered a luxury well earned. A typical day consisted of waking doing your morning routine ie: washing up,showering using the rest room. When going anywhere we had to line up in a single file line to they could pretty much do count. You would head downstairs to the cafeteria to eat breakfast majority of the time you got to sit where you wanted. Lunch was the same and so wasn t dinner. The food wasn t too horrible at times. I would rate the food 7 out of 10. Your typical day consisted of group therapy, 1 on 1 with a therapist or counselor aka staff member. The people I had on my floor were Jim Herder, Mike Cordetti, bill Featherstone, and cannot for the life of me remember the lady s name who was our administrator for our floor. But they were tough people but at the end of the day they cared for you. Hats just my personal opinion from interactions with them. Oh her name was Rhonda lol. You got to watch tv but some channels or movies were restricted the same went for music, magazines, and photos. We had sports teams, track soccer softball, basketball. They had a swimming pool don t if it s actually usable anymore because of problems they were having at the time with it. At onarga it s about earning everything because when you come there you re don t get to do whatever you want until you ve earned. It s a system that they go by, it all ties into your groups, staff interactions, peer interactions and what you re there for. I was able to achieve NFL veteran status before I left which was a tough task and grind. They don t give it to you easy I got turned down a few times along the way, but I kept pushing because I wanted to be the first person to achieve such a feat. It was very rewarding for me in the long run. Your main objective is to make your way over to the independent living program across the street from the main campus. Which is what a lot of guys should ve been working towards. Everything wasn t always perfect you seen fights, you heard of in appropriate actions, and a whole bunch of code reds. There was a third shifter who there by the name of Joe farmer who I didn t like at first but after him and I got to know each other we turned out to be I would say good friend. Dale was one of the best, Melissa, Arami, Carl who we called Pelon which is bald man in Spanish lol. There s a few others as well but I can t recall their names. The school system quite honestly from a person who lived there and went to the school on campus and Iroquois west high school. The schools are night and day compared to one another. I thought it was a joke and I m sure I wasn t the only. I m not saying that the teachers were bad it s just not your regular school that s all. I would like to come back to Onarga academy or nexus academy and talk to the young man that are there now.

I am so grateful for the entire staff of Heartland. At some of my families toughest moments, they were there to help support in all the ways that they would. I have had the unfortunate need to seek treatment for a family member and this is the place I would always recommend for any family I know. Heartland has completely transformed my life. I came as a client seeking a change, and I was met with open arms by a team full of love, understanding, and compassion, free of judgment. Jaime, Jeanie, Molly, Germaine, Travis, Laura, and Jen – each one of them is unique and passionate about helping people. I've never felt so cared for. Let me just say I was a patient at Medmark for years and above everything no matter what because they open at 4:45 AM says it all. They generally want to meet everyday people’s needs to live a normal life.In and out the door before 5am to do what you need to do w your life. Try and find another clinic that does that for you. You won’t. Working men and women this your clinic. Just no weed. Sorry.

I do not typically do these reviews however I felt very strongly I needed to. I have been in the program for over 7 years. The program honestly saved my life after trying several other things. My addiction became like most had back problems and my doctors were very free to prescribe the opioids and benzodiazepines. Xanax was actually the worst for me hospitalized for over 10 days due to all the seizures. Anyways the nurses Yolanda Jackie Val are sweethearts and have never judged me once. Yolanda is the one person who always tells me she is proud of me I don’t even hear that from family. Kim who runs front desk is also great. In my experience I have had around 6 counselors and sorry to say this is the downfall here. I don’t know if they are overworked micromanaged or just don’t care but I have had to go elsewhere for my counseling. I have promise for my new counselor April who is new to this location. Since starting she has been on top on my case not letting anything slide. She gets accomplished what the 5 others took months to do and I appreciate that. Non judgmental follow-up and just caring she accomplishes where most can’t and this is what keeps me clean and alive and I thank her for that more than I can say. Doctor is a different story for a different day I will just say to the women ask that a third person be in the room. That’s all!

I have been coming here for years and honestly love the place. My therapist has helped me grow in ways I didn't think possible. Reviews show a negative outlook on the receptionists, but every experience I have had with them was warm, welcoming, and full of patience and laughter. They handle themselves very well and are incredibly patient with guests. The only negative i can come up with is their current rotating psychiatry department, but thats due to a shortage of people in the profession!

I was at the ER the other night and I was so nervous. Scared for my life. Then out of the corner of my eye I see this masculine behemoth of a man to save my life. so i was a patient here i literally discharged yesterday. this place has a bad star rating but honestly this place is not bad my first 3 to 7 days were the worst days of my entire stay there because I just cried every day and I really wanted to go home but staff was always there to comfort me and tell me that I can do my treatment and I was gonna be OK and I’m gonna get better and I’m gonna go home the facility the day room and our bedrooms are not the best but they’re also not the worst. we decorate the unit sometimes to brighten up the place and it does look good. The cafeteria is pretty big and the food is decent. I’m gonna say that we would get like cauliflower and it would have a little mold spots on it, but it wasn’t every time it was just a couple times If it had mold on it and we would switch it out for something else. The broccoli it was smell funky so I was scared to eat it, but I don’t know if it went bad we do only get 10 minute showers and 10 minute phone calls so that’s not the best and we also rarely go outside and the staff here was very nice. I was on East unit and I feel like I learned a lot my therapist. She helped me a lot family sessions. She helped. She taught me a lot of skills. The unit taught me lots of skills in the school programming there it is fairly good. there was a couple fights on the unit, but they never lasted. Staff always heard them arguing and always got into the middle of it. The only reason they got to fight is because they hit around staff and they did get punished for it fairly and if you there is like a lot of precautions, there’s like SP precautions SH precautions SI precautions, AP, EP and you can you put on those if you show that behavior SP precautions if you’re saying you have a plan to un alive yourself and it can be feasibly carried out in the hospital you’ll get put on SPS if you’re saying you want to you or are gonna do it you’re gonna get put on sp ap is being aggressive yeah just stuff like that. You’ll learn all about it and it’s honestly not bad. You just have to do your treatment and not fight it and you will you will have a good time. oh also they do make you eat 50% of all meals and I’m pretty sure if you eat less than that you get put on fall precautions and you have to wear a hard helmet to make sure that you don’t fall in hit your head so this place is also for like eating disorders and just anybody that doesn’t eat regularly. We have to eat 50% of breakfast 50% of lunch 50% of dinner so it does help. But I’d like to thank the facility for helping me and just just I don’t know like it was just a good facility and I would definitely recommend someone to go there

I've been a patient here for over 6 years and have had some issues here and there but it took me a while to realize how much this place cares about their patients. They have been there for me through everything and never gave up on me or kicked me out of therapy for my behavior, which is improving thanks to my new treatment plan with Dr. Patrick Z. I realize that mental health therapy takes time and not everything is going to work right off the bat. Maybe its a breakthrough i've had while in treatment, or maybe it's me finally growing up. If you're willing to be patient and put the time and effort into your therapy, you'll get alot farther than you would just by taking pills and calling it a day. I'll always recommend this place! Thanks guys

The MRT, sober school, and weekly house meetings is the core of the program. Over the year that I’ve been here I have been graced to know a lot of people. I saw what worked and what didn’t. This program brought me to multiple different meetings of recovery also. In the past this may have been a different program but as it sits with me it has been directly responsible for equipping me with the tools to START a lifetime of recovery though I will have to continuously upkeep my recovery in order to make it successful but this program is a great start. It’s a nine month program but I was able to stay longer because I don’t feel quite ready to leave. It afforded me the opportunity to continue to help new people coming in and improve my own abilities. I am now coming up on one year and I can confidently say the effort is not only proportional of my own work but the thought and attention of the program that is a living organism- growing and developing when required. It’s not a stationary object never to be changed. It’s being built on continuously through a team of kind compassionate and knowledgeable folks that are open minded and willing to review things that may no longer work or might work better.

The front desk staff is very professional understanding and friendly. These people really are there to help without any judgment. Believe me they have seen and heard it all so if you find yourself in a situation where you should see counseling do not hesitate to be open and honest with them. I went in with one attitude and came out a completely different person for the better. Big shout out to Kaitlyn and Jeff. You two are great and thankyou soo much for the clear thinking skills I have gained. I will carry everything I have learned from you two for the rest of my life. 6 stars if I could !!

Are you tired of not being able to do the simplest of things? From not being able to keep a conversation going to not being able to keep up with a schedule; Valley Oaks will make those issues a thing of the past. I normally don't post reviews because nothing has ever motivated me in doing so. But this I can't keep a secret! Go here, and get the help you need. Forget the stereotype of "man up", or "get over it", and let's not forget "try harder." Enough is enough, trust me, I've tried everything in the book to be normal and I've failed each time. These amazing people here will get you the help you need, and get you one step closer to reaching your goal of being normal.
