I can only speak to the adult IOP/PHP program, but my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite some of the older, more critical reviews, the current psychologist, Dr. Akunna, is excellent. The staff is also very respectful of gender identities and preferred names — I’ve even seen therapists gently correct each other when the wrong pronoun was used by mistake.
Britney is a fantastic therapist — extremely validating and supportive. The smaller group setting allows for meaningful one-on-one attention, especially during afternoon sessions. Grace, their most consistent group therapist, creates a space where people can truly show up as they are — something I’ve rarely seen done so well.
Ajita and the rest of the team work hard to support clients while also holding firm, compassionate boundaries to set them up for success after leaving the program. They use a mix of DBT, CBT, and other therapeutic approaches to teach skills in a holistic, client-centered way. They also encourage clients to seek additional medical support, such as a primary care doctor or nutritionist, when needed.
Overall, the team is committed to helping clients fully engage with treatment — and you truly get out of the program what you put into it.

South Amboy, NJ | Recovery Centers of America is a prominent brand in addiction recovery. While they have a lot of locations throughout the East Coast and the Midwest, we’ll be focusing on the Recovery Centers of America at Raritan Bay in South Amboy, New Jersey. As one of New Jersey’s leading inpatient and outpatient rehabs, they offer two essential levels | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I went to RCA three years ago, and I can honestly say they saved my life. When I arrived, I was completely consumed by my addictions and had no idea how to climb out. This place gave me the tools, structure, and support I needed to rebuild myself from the inside out.
The staff truly cares. They don’t just treat you, they teach you. I learned coping skills, accountability, and how to face life without numbing everything. They helped me understand my patterns, break them, and replace them with healthier habits. Even now, years later, I still use what I learned there.
I walked in broken and walked out with hope, clarity, and a future. If you’re struggling and you’re ready for real change, this is the place that can give you your life back. I’m forever grateful.

The great outweigh the frustrations.
The staff in the building are capable, competent, compassionate, patient, and truly wonderful! They helped me unlock so much in my recovery, and I left my 30 day treatment feeling like a truly new man. I feel like Im a version of myself that I didn’t know existed. I have such supreme admiration for the boots on the ground: Marguerite, Kelly, Sheets, and Jeff, to the case managers (shoutout Maggie), to the group leaders like Betty, Scott, Nick, Donald, Kevin, Rob, Ben, to the nursing and RSS staff, the cleaning staff, and kitchen staff. They all contributed in saving my life.
The frustrations stem from the negligence at the top levels of this company. There were several situations, and altercations that put the patients hygeine, safety, and ultimately, sobriety in jeopardy due to extreme budget cuts. The “interim ceo” peacocks around the hallways, and when directly adressed by patients with issues about patients concerns, he smugly passes the buck and ignores said issues. If it werent for these frustrations, this place could be the gold standard for recovery.
For these reasons, I give the staff a 9 out of 5, and the pencil pushers a resounding 0 out of 5.

Serenity at Summit provided my son with exceptional care from the moment we made the first call. I was relieved that my insurance was accepted, but even more relieved when my son was assigned to his counselor, Sean. From the very beginning, I felt confident that my son was in the right place and working with the right person.
Sean kept me informed of every major development, whether positive or challenging. He communicated clearly, consistently, and with genuine concern for my son’s well being. When my son wanted to give up, which happened more than once, it was Sean’s dedication, patience, and steady guidance that kept him grounded. He supported my son through some very difficult moments and helped him stay committed to the program when he felt like walking away.
What impressed me most was that Sean never pushed my son to make decisions for anyone else not for me, not for him, not for the program. Instead, he helped my son understand that recovery only works when you choose it for yourself. That shift in mindset was transformative, and it happened because Sean knew how to reach him, speak to him, and guide him without judgment.
It is rare to find someone with this level of compassion and dedication for people they do not know personally. Sean’s own experience and journey make him a powerful example of what is possible. You cannot teach that kind of empathy. It comes from lived experience, resilience, and a genuine desire to help others out of the same darkness he fought his way through.
In my opinion, Sean is nothing short of a blessing for individuals and families facing the challenges of addiction. My son stayed, listened, and moved forward because of the support he received, and for that I am deeply grateful. Serenity at Summit is fortunate to have him, and so were we.

One thing I am most grateful for is the environment and community that grew my positive energy. Everyone from my APN, Dee, my therapist, Michael who I have learned so much from. As a mental health professional with over a decade of experience in the field of addiction and co-occurring disorders, I have had the opportunity to refer and learn more about Rebirth Recovery Center and I can confidently say they are among the most compassionate and clinically sound treatment providers in the region.

The clinical team at Rebirth is exceptional in their use of evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing.
One of the standout features of Rebirth is their integrated approach. They address substance use holistically, incorporating Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when appropriate, and always with a strong emphasis on co-occurring mental health conditions. This dual-focus treatment has been instrumental in stabilizing clients and supporting long-term recovery.
Clients reported feeling safe, respected, and genuinely cared for—particularly within the Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) programs. I brought my daughter to the ER because she was having an asthma attack. She was treated with albuterol, but her oxygen levels remained unstable, ranging between 89–91%. Despite this, the doctor discharged her without first speaking to us.
I was extremely confused and concerned. The doctor later came in and told us that the hospital does not have a pediatric unit and advised us not to bring her back there. We were given a prescription and sent home instead of being transferred to a facility that could properly care for her.
Trusting my instincts, I took my daughter to RWJBarnabas urgent care, where she was immediately transferred to a children’s hospital in Newark. She was admitted to the pediatric unit and hospitalized for four days.
If I had followed the original doctor’s instructions to go home and wait to pick up the prescription the next day, my daughter may not have made it through the night. This experience was frightening and unacceptable. A transfer should have been arranged immediately.
This was the worst hospital experience I have ever had, and I would never recommend bringing a child with a serious condition here

I am writing to report a deeply distressing and unsafe experience I had during my recent hospitalization following a complex nine-hour spinal fusion surgery. While my surgeon and the day-shift nurses provided excellent care, my experience with the night-shift nursing staff was alarming, neglectful, and emotionally traumatic during the most vulnerable time of my recovery.
Immediately after surgery, while still heavily affected by anesthesia, the night staff failed to perform basic post-operative care tasks. I was not placed on an IV, not given antibiotics, my catheter was not emptied, my compression socks were not put on, and my nurse call button was not plugged in. Had I not had someone staying with me, I would have been unable to call for help while experiencing severe nausea and vomiting due to the anesthesia. Additionally, the night nurses repeatedly pushed my tray table out of reach despite knowing I had just undergone major spine surgery. Each time I pressed the call button, the nurses responded with visible irritation, making me feel as though my legitimate needs were an inconvenience.
The following morning, the day nurse immediately recognized the lack of care I had received, corrected the issues, and made every effort to make me comfortable, including arranging a private room. The second night was painful, but the third night became especially traumatic.
That night, I attempted to responsibly transition to a lower-dose pain medication. When my pain reached a 7–8 out of 10, I asked my nurse if I was due for the medication. She told me she would check—but never returned. As my pain escalated to a 9, I pressed my call button again. An unfamiliar nurse, whom I had never seen before, entered and said she would find my nurse. She disappeared and did not return. Over the next hour and a half, my pain reached a 10 out of 10, and I urgently needed assistance to get to the bathroom. Each time I called, the same unfamiliar nurse only said there were “no nurses available.” I repeatedly begged for help and told her the name of my nurse, but she insisted I was mistaken and kept searching for the wrong person.
When my assigned nurse finally appeared in the hallway, I cried out to her for help. She responded, “We’re working on it, hold on,” despite the fact that I had already been waiting over an hour in severe pain. At that time, my nurse informed me that the unfamiliar nurse did not even work on that floor—something I could not have known as this was my first stay at this hospital.
When my assigned nurse eventually came into the bathroom, she advised that I needed to ask for the medication before they could give it to me—meaning that pain medication is not automatically administered on a schedule; patients must notify staff when they are in pain. I had tried to do this, but my request had gone to the wrong nurse, resulting in a dangerous delay. I explained that my pain was at a level 10 and that I needed intravenous medication immediately to be able to stand from the toilet. Despite my distress, she repeatedly interrupted me and refused to provide the medication, leaving me in extreme pain while sitting on the toilet. For the remainder of the night, she remained dismissive and made me feel ashamed for needing care at such a vulnerable time.
By the next morning, out of fear of enduring another night of uncontrolled pain and mistreatment, I discharged earlier than medically recommended. This experience left me physically set back, emotionally traumatized, and genuinely fearful for my safety in your facility. What should have been a supported recovery turned into one of the most frightening and humiliating experiences of my life.

This facility focuses on a holistic, village-style approach to help people manage their SUD. Progra | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I can’t say enough good things about this facility/program. I did my IOP here and from day one, I felt supported, understood, and genuinely cared for. Courtney and Mika are incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate—they don’t just go through the motions; they truly invest in your growth and wellbeing.
The groups were meaningful, engaging, and actually useful in real life, not just “textbook recovery.” I learned tools that helped me rebuild structure, confidence, and balance in my life. The environment felt safe, nonjudgmental, and motivating, and I always walked out feeling better than when I walked in... they even have recliner "lay down and share" chairs oh and the Coffee is top notch
This facility played a huge role in my progress, and I’m grateful for every counselor, staff member, and peer who helped me along the way. If you’re looking for an IOP that truly cares and makes a real impact, this is the place. Highly recommend.

OK men's trauma group with a Russian-native psychiatrist (Ed Steinberg MD) who barely spoke English. That was amusing, needless to say.

By far the best place around. If your serious about your recovery, this is the place. It’s not just all about the medication, it’s about the staff as well. My counselor, Sharece T saved my life. She goes above and beyond the call of duty and treats people as an individual, not a group, because we’re all different. She really took the time to get to know me and get to the root of the problem and checks up regularly to see if everything’s going well. I’ve been to many places, doctors, meetings and rehabs. No one has ever understood me better, witch is very important in recovery so you can be treated accordingly. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m extremely grateful and blessed for my counselor Sharece. A huge thanks to this organization and most importantly, my counselor.

I had the best experience ever at Summit Overlook Labor and Delivery! All of the doctors and nurses were incredibly supportive, kind, and full of great advice. My baby was born on 10/27, and the entire experience was amazing. During delivery, the nurses were cheering me on, it was such an empowering moment surrounded by strong, encouraging women.
Later, when I had a tough evening with my newborn, the nurses were right there for me teaching me how to latch, showing me the 5 “S’s,” staying up with me as I rocked her to sleep, and even making me an ice pack. I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude and so pleased with how the entire team treated me. I can’t thank them enough!

SHOUT OUT to the staff here..I have been to many many rehabs, and there is something different about these people, and this place..they are in my opinion, Earth Angels. No judgement, they really just want to help and are good humans! Also, the way they go about treatment, I felt really cared about , from the 1st day. I need a higher level of treatment but I will be going to Outpatient there after..
I can't recommend this place enough. They have no hard chairs that your ass goes numb from sitting in for hours, they have leather, lazy boy chairs, in the entire place, they have a quite room where you can rest if you are detoxing or dont feel good, they feed you great food, they have snacks and sodas and I was literally told "think of this place as your home away from home" and from the clinical staff, the nursing staff, the Dr., they're all special people. xoxoxoxo

I have been coming to Stress Care for several years now and at first it was a little rocky but about six months ago I was assigned to Christina. I cannot recommend Christina highly enough. She is an incredibly compassionate, skilled, and insightful therapist who creates a safe and supportive space for real growth and healing. From the very first session, I felt truly heard and understood. Christina has a unique ability to ask the right questions, offer meaningful perspectives, and guide me toward clarity in ways that feel empowering rather than overwhelming.
Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine care shine through in every interaction. I’ve noticed so many positive changes in my life thanks to her guidance, and I feel more confident, grounded, and hopeful than I have in years. If you are looking for a therapist who is both deeply empathetic and highly effective, Christina is truly exceptional. I leave every session feeling a million times better. She truly tells me what I need to hear instead of what I want to hear, which is something I have never been able to receive through many therapists in the past. I have since loved going to Stress Care and look forward to going to my sessions, instead of feeling like it was a chore.
