Ahhhh yes, the school for the troubled youth.. it’s been many years since I’ve attended but it seems like yesterday.. you do school for a half a day and then sit in a circle and talk about problems.. I’ve met a lot of “interesting” people here and who knows where they are at these days.. the teachers and counselors here were fantastic and I wish them well, it must’ve been hard dealing with outcasts all day.. hope they have AC by now because that little building used to get hot.. Mike, Tracy, Jay, that one English lady from England, math teacher Bob.. I doubt you guys still work there but those are the ones I remember..

I've been to better and been to worse. They provide a therapeutic environment that allows clients the opportunity to heal and grow. They feed you well, the coffee is real and usually strong (though limited to meal times,) the gym is better than most. There are ample smoke breaks and there are decent amenities. It's not the Ritz, but it's not supposed to be. They're definitely understaffed, but the team they currently have is full of dedicated and compassionate people which made all the difference in my stay and helped my find direction and hope. Going to EDCPA will change your life. When I discharged from residential, no one, least of all myself, thought that I would be able to succeed in a PHP level of care. But my phenomenal treatment team held onto hope for me. Even though there were definitely hard moments, they taught me to acknowledge my emotions, ask myself what I really need, and move forward with what I need to do. I could not imagine a better-qualified, more supportive yet effective staff. They truly embody the concept of knowing when to push and when to nurture. I love how I was able to build connections with all of the staff and some clients through a screen. I went in nervous about this, but I experienced some really beautiful friendships. Even the therapists that were not mine, I felt were safe to talk to and always put a smile on my face. There were days that I looked forward to program when I was having a bad day or a depressive episode. I felt so empty, so lost, and felt such grief after my discharge. All I can think to myself now is how lucky I am to have built such connections to feel such a loss.

I had the privilege of completing a clinical rotation at Haven Behavioral Health as a Physician Assistant student, and the experience exceeded my expectations in every way. Haven provides exceptional care to patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and personality disorders. The multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, therapists, and behavioral health technicians work collaboratively to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and evidence-based treatment. The staff fostered an environment that was welcoming, professional, and dedicated to patient well-being. I was especially fortunate to have Dr. Seara, the Medical Director, as my preceptor. His expertise, warmth, and approachable teaching style created an outstanding learning environment. Dr. Seara is not only clinically knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in the growth of his students, making the rotation both educational and inspiring. Especially in conditions not commonly seen and leave lasting impressions on students (especially astasia abasia which I will never forget.) Training at Haven Behavioral Health was an invaluable opportunity that has left a lasting impact on my professional development. I would highly recommend this facility and Dr. Seara as a preceptor to any student pursuing a career in mental health.
