Donald Wilson 3 months ago Before I entered ABC Recovery I couldn't even walk on my own. I had to use a walker and was on 3 liters of oxygen 24/7. I could only go 20 yards before having to stop and catch my breath. I started to have seizures and felt like I was on the cusp of death. After one month there I could walk without the walker and was down to only being on oxygen 6 hours a day. They accommodated me by giving me a downstairs room in the courage house because I have congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Every meal was good if not great, there was never any meal put in front of me that was not edible. The nursing staff never had anything more than a smile when dealing with me and I was a high maintenance client. They made many appointments for me and got me there on time and back with minimum waiting. I had the best counselor Sarah , who played a huge part in saving my life by teaching me coping skills needed to live clean and sober. My county worker was excellent and found me the best sober living that I could ever be placed at. My case manager and family counselor were both extremely helpful. Everyone that works there including the techs really seem like they care. I felt very safe and secure there and was taught a lot and felt a lot of love and care from everyone . A few weeks later I was in worse condition. Louise the Clinical Director reached out to me and was authentically concerned and wanted to help me. The moment I arrived back the staff and community was nothing but loving and kind.Finally I found a place to heal and deal w grief, self love, triggers and coping skills. This place wasn't perfect but no place is however it gave me so more than what anticipated for myself. The staff not only work in recovery but also are recovering. The showed what freedom looks like. I was completely broken (and kinda drunk) completely hopeless. From the moment I arrived and met Margaret and felt her incredible energy, I knew I was where I belonged finally. Every person that works here is so caring, knowledgeable, educated, intelligent, empathetic, thoughtful and they ACTUALLY care. They make the withdrawal process very smooth, safe and comfortable based on your needs. Everything I needed and more was provided during withdrawal. After detox I met with my counselor, case manager, all of the awesome techs and the best Psychiatrist I've ever had the honor of meeting. This is the first time I've felt safe in more years than I can even count. It's the first time I've been with staff that actually listens and cares. We also have 2 of the most amazing personal chefs you could imagine. Don't know how I'm going to live without one now😊! The facility is IMMACULATE, the surroundings beautiful, mineral baths outside facing the beautiful mountains, options for hikes, gym, yoga,etc. I've met the most amazing people that I've been lucky enough to go through this experience with and we've all become extremely close. Did I mention private rooms with a TV? I had a horrible experience at disgusting Casa Capri in Costa Mesa, Ca and was terrified that the same things would happen here. I was terrified when I arrived that it would be a similar situation. I couldn't have been more wrong. With that being said, it is a smaller treatment center with a small number of staff which results in a disorganized feeling to the program and a LOT of repeat groups which got very boring. Plus a lot of time is spent sitting around doing 'self support' because they don't have enough staff to run groups and do one on one sessions at the same time. And don't be fooled when you hear them say this is not a 12 step program; 12 step meetings are MANDATORY. and one last thing: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEIR SOBER LIVING... unless you like sleeping in very cheap bunk beds and tight quarters with upwards of 8-9 people at a time. I am not saying I don't think this is a good program, because it is and I got a lot out of it but I think there is a lot of room for improvement from Kiloby. Give it a try if you want to try something different that really gets to the core of your issues. Update, 5 years later: After re-reading my review, and the reviews of others who have left a rating, I truly think The Kiloby Center deserves at least a 4-4.5 Star rating. On reflection, the work I did here changed my life more than any of the other programs I've been to. The comments I made about the sober living seem so trivial now.. I can honestly say, for a smaller treatment center, Kiloby did their best and still managed to make a bigger impact on my life than any other 'rehab'/program.
