Brighter Start helped me in so many ways. I was fresh from prison, new to Wilmington, only a few months clean from being on drugs for 10 years. I was starting from nothing and scared to death. Never talked about the baggage I had been carrying for so long. All the pain and all the anger was why I stayed on drugs. Colten, Todd and Sarah are the absolute best at what they do! Being able to finally let go of all the weight that held me down was a blessing that I’ll always cherish. I worked hard and stayed focused determined to get my life back. Ps i wrote my review a few weeks after leaving WTC, i am passed seven months clean, will hit 8 months on November 2nd. I am still clean off fentanyl , and all drugs in general and officially off Suboxone months ago and three months off sublocade shot. 💗i still stand with everything i said. They saved me.
My time at Wilmington Treatment Center is an experience I will never forget. Like many others, I was anxious about the unknown—I didn’t know what to expect, as this was my first time in a rehabilitation and detox center. But now, I can confidently say that this place can truly save you—if you’re ready to save yourself.
If you don’t truly want recovery, it’s easy to believe the bad reviews or make excuses. But I can tell you firsthand that this is a clean, professional facility that provides real help. They will guide you through detox, and while the process was challenging, it was far better than trying to do it alone at home. The medical team provides assistance and medications that ease withdrawal symptoms. You’ll have your vitals checked multiple times daily and an assessment done prior to getting your medication in the mornings. My drug of choice was fentanyl and other opiates, and for the longest time, I believed I was too far gone. I didn’t think any place could help me—but Wilmington Treatment Center did.
Once you’re stabilized, they offer optional classes to help you learn how to cope with addiction during detox and If you transition to residential living, you’ll attend Mandatory meetings that play a crucial role in long-term recovery. I only stayed in residential for two nights, but in that short time, I realized something important—once you leave, the responsibility is entirely on you. No one will hold you accountable anymore, which is why these meetings matter. We went wrong somewhere, right? So, we have to learn new ways of thinking and living. Counselors, therapists, psychiatrists, doctors, and peers all offer insight, and sometimes, all it takes is hearing one thing that truly resonates with you. That accountability can be life-changing.
As for the staff—they genuinely care. They want to see us succeed in recovery, and I never once felt judged or embarrassed. They were easy to talk to, and many of them have battled addiction themselves, so they truly understand what we’re going through. I want to give a special mention to Kyle, Anthony, Miss Juanita, and D—whether you realize it or not, you made a difference in my life. I am confident in my recovery, and I will continue putting in the effort to stay clean.
I’ve never been so proud of myself. I’m taking it one day at a time, and for the first time in a long time, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My hope is that one day, I can offer my hand to someone struggling, just as others helped me.
Additional Notes:
• You’re allowed to smoke cigarettes freely.
• During detox, you’ll wear scrubs, but you get your belongings back once you transition to residential. i bought everything in amazon packages and was able to use a fan (brand new) during detox, coloring books, word searches, buy new belongings if their is something specific you want there with you.
Life is beautiful. Your life is worth living. If you’re on the fence about seeking help, I hope my experience encourages you to take that step. It’s worth it. you’re worth it!

This place saved my life. They have a great director and the staff listen and care. If you have Medicaid you can dose free and even get free rides. No one out there should be suffering hell on earth withdrawals as long as this place is open. But like always, grown adults cry like little children if they mess up and have to face the consequences. Such as getting your take home meds taken away and having to go everyday. If you decided to get high and then have a dirty screen that is on YOU. In this regard it's like a daycare Center for childish adults. If you do the program as you should you can get your life back.

I became a patient of crossroads back in 2018. At first I was problematic, not doing well but I also wasn’t doing anything that I was supposed to. Once I actually worked the program I began to excel. I was one of the few lucky ones who had the same counselor my entire time there. But thanks to her I am who I am today. And now I myself am a counselor at a methadone clinic! Methadone saves lives, and it definitely saved mine!

.... I DONT RECOMMEND THAT ! I just transferred back here to Crossroads and they have changed so much for the BETTER. I'm actually 20 mgs lower then I was at Myrtle Beach treatment. IM NO LONGER SICK, AND NOT USING !!! Within a week of being back at crossroads my dose was starting to work again ... Everyday I was sick and dosing at Myrtle Beach treatment. AND I WAS AT 120.???? Here I'm at 100 and the medicine is actually WORKING... SO PLEASE BELIEVE ME , STAY AT C.O.H OR CROSSROADS... The medicine not only doesn't work at the other clinic ,but if you have blue cross you end up paying 120 a month .. Here it's only 30 a month... IM SO GLAD I GAVE THIS PLACE A SECOND CHANCE... The director is GREAT. The whole staff is great... I love my counselor here. They have updated their facility too... I give crossroads 💯.

Last summer (2024) I arrived in Wilmington broken and bankrupt, not just financially but spiritually as well. Since then, I completed a 6 month rehab/behavior modification program successfully, worked at that rehab as a Peer Mentor, Peer Mentor Supervisor, became certified as a Peer Support Specialist, interned as a Peer Support Specialist at another organization, and now work at that organization as a full-time Peer Support Specialist and Admissions Coordinator. This growth and transformation from utter failure to success was a team effort though and I could not have done it without the help from Helping Hands and my therapist Khristine W. She is intelligent, insightful, kind, and compassionate. Her empathetic ear, sage suggestions, and honest humility has guided me through my recovery journey. I am a current patient of 17 yrs on the methadone maintenance program at New Hanover Metro. This place is fairly good about not constantly bothering you and making you do all kinds of classes, so it's good for people who work or have busy lives. The counselors & nurses are usually very friendly but rarely stay for very long (Lauren being the exception, great person). My biggest complaint is the high cost, currently $16 per day from $13 per day, this place makes a killing off of our mistakes but I guess you pay to play. This place has been part to me getting clean. Clinic is efficient, in and out quickly , counselors are amazing and are always willing to listen and not judge. The people here are great and I made the best decision to come here as my stepping stone of getting clean.

Dont like that there is no number to the castle hayne location online. It only brings up hightsville. It used to call right to the castle hayne office to talk to your councelsors not just some main office.

I was at my rock bottom, and I called shoreline after detox. They got me from detox to them and it was very easy, all of the people who work there really care. I have been clean for over 7 years now, and I honestly don't think I could have found a better place for me than this. I would recommend them to anyone struggling with addiction and mental health issues.

Don't listen to the negative reviews about Paige. She is a fantastic practitioner. I've been seeing her since 2019 and she has always been helpful, kind, attentive and truly listened to me. She is not rude by any means. She listens to all my symptoms, side effect issues and any problems im having with meds. I like Paige and enjoy having her as my med provider.

I have been with Coastal Horizons for over a year and they have been great. Jessie Thomas has gone above & beyond to help me out multiple times. I had a family emergency and had to leave town on short notice and she made sure I would be taken care of while I was away. She really is great. The staff communicates very thoroughly. My treatment plan has been working very well, much better at Coastal Horizons than at other clinics I have been to in the past. Kim is very friendly and helpful and Alicia is an awesome therapist. 10/10 recommend for anybody wanting therapy or MAT.

I really like it there. The staff is great especially the nurse Jessie Thomas. She would check on me every morning about how I was feeling and how my recovery was going. She would call if I missed a day to make sure I was alright. I just felt like she really cared about how my recovery was going. For anyone who is struggling with opiate addiction I highly recommend this place.
