We just returned from my husband Eric’s first VA primary care appointment and were absolutely blown away by how efficient, professional, and downright welcoming the entire experience was.
We were checked in by Kayla, who was friendly and fast — I don’t think we even sat for a full minute before being called back. That kind of efficiency is rare these days! Mark, the RN, was kind, thorough, and respectful and made sure we had every number we needed to navigate the system with confidence. Then we met Joshua Makela, PA-C and it was clear from the start that we were in excellent hands. Not only is Josh a veteran himself (which we deeply respect), but he’s also compassionate, knowledgeable, and a true listener. He took his time to explain everything, answer questions, and walk us through what to expect going forward.
After the appointment, Kayla checked us out and scheduled Eric’s next annual physical. We left feeling informed, supported, and so grateful to be part of Team Freedom. This group truly feels like our tribe.
Huge thanks to everyone at the VA — you’ve restored our faith in healthcare and veteran support. We’re so happy to be in your care!

It’s been a very difficult journey and I’m beyond grateful to have found Estil Wallace and Cornerstone. I’m a graduate school student, intern, and entrepreneur. I work in behavioral health and I was having a really hard time finding a safe space to focus on my own recovery. I attended the Tuesday night men’s stag meeting and IMMEDIATELY felt at ease. It’s an AMAZING men’s AA meeting. Very clearly literature-based and solution-oriented. Not only is the building IMMACULATE but I saw men reading Big Books and doing Step Work. I had to work through a lot of trauma and a lot of grief before I felt comfortable enough to go anywhere besides therapy and the gym. As soon as I got to Cornerstone, I felt SAFE. I made that meeting my home group right then and there. Thank you guys for all that you do. You’re amazing people doing amazing things and I’m grateful to have been invited to attend that meeting.

Community Medical Services in Phoenix, Arizona, is a medical clinic that provides an opioid treatment program. They provide counseling, peer to peer support and the latest medications for treating opioid use disorder. The medications that are administered include naltrexone, methadone and buprenorphine. The organization believes in providing expert | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Obviously, no one comes here (particularly the first time) when everything in his or her life is going perfectly and all of his or her hopes and dreams have just come true. If you find yourself in need of CMS you are probably at or below rock bottom. Furthermore, I would think it would go without saying that to be an employee of CMS or any similar business, one would have to be kind, patient, and understanding but as anyone who has ever been to the Cactus location will undoubtedly confirm, that isn't the case. I was at Cactus for less than one month, but have witnessed first-hand as well as through friends who have been going there for years, that nearly the entire staff at that location seem to hate their jobs only slightly less than they hate their clients. Rude, disrespectful, and in some cases what can only be described as intentionally cruel and bordering on sadistic was what I came to expect from CMS, until moving to this location on the corner of 23rd Avenue and Northern. Here, the opposite is true as I have witnessed all the best qualities humanity has to offer from nearly everyone on staff. This includes the receptionists at the front desk, through the nurses, providers and counselors, not only towards me but generally to all people who are the most in need of such compassion and yet are often the least likely to receive it from a society that has been taught to see people suffering this affliction and instead judge them to be undesirables, criminals, or worse. In particular, Bea at the front desk and Kaleen, my counselor need to be recognized. Even when surrounded by other people demonstrating the correct way to treat those in need of help and support, Bea and Kaleen manage to distinguish themselves with their empathy and warmth. If you should ever find yourself in need of a place like CMS, you will be hard-pressed to discover anywhere more welcoming and less judgemental. Neither will you find a staff more compassionate, nor are you likely to encounter people who more embody the traits we should honestly expect from everyone in a health care field. While it would be nice if services like this were no longer needed, I couldn't be more pleased to have found this CMS location at a point where I couldn't have needed them more.
Just one last thing to add. I noticed more 1-star reviews for this location than I would have expected. When I investigated this a little further, I discovered that all but two of the negative reviews were from at least six years ago and one of the two "newer" poor reviews was two years old. If you were swayed by the criticism, I hope you now believe (as I do) that the problems that apparently plagued this location were in the past. It truly does appear that they have taken the past critiques seriously, have addressed those issues, and now run a clinic with nearly perfect ratings. While I was initially distressed to see so many low scores after posting my honest, very flattering opinion of this CMS, especially after making the point that the kindness and compassion I witnessed wasn't only directed at me, I am relieved to learn that the overwhelming majority of those scores were from a time before I started coming here. I also now wonder if several or many employees moved from this location to Cactus five to seven years ago...

Front desk staff was so kind, I was greeted by a young girl, she was new but you could tell she's in the right field. Very kind and compassionate and made me feel welcome!
Candy in adult intake is a treasure. She made sure I felt comfortable and safe throughout the entire appointment. Intakes for establishing care can be very lengthy and repetitive, but she kept the energy bright and bubbly the entire time. She played my favorite music to help make me feel comfortable and placed no judgment when I opened up about my issues. We laughed, and she encouraged me multiple times throughout my appointment.

I really enjoyed and appreciated my time at CORE Recovery, and found it to be very helpful in a number of ways. They have an approach to treatment that addresses whatever your particular scenario is-there are multiple methods of treatment to support you. Individual therapist, family therapist are both assigned-typically different people for each so that the integrity of each is maintained. Group therapy sessions (I attended evening group sessions) are very helpful, as you are with other people that have same or similar issues. Which is great for peer support, feedback. There are "activities" done each session covering a wide range of topics-which are all related in their own way to treatment.
There is a focus on mental health-which I had essentially overlooked, or dismissed-and found this to be specifically helpful. As in, fixing the overall whole, required addressing each individual part. Once I truly grasped this, and was able to do the work and come to an understanding of the importance, how to address, and practice what was learned-the overall experience, and end result, was easier and better.
Again: family therapy, individual therapy, group therapy, nurse practitioners available, ability to use medications to also support recovery (or you obviously can choose not to use medications), it's all available.
I'd recommend CORE Recovery for sure!
I'd recommend CORE to be sure.

This facility offers a partial hospitalization program, an intensive outpatient program, housing services, and psychiatric care. The partial hospitalization program is the most intensive level of care and consis | Treatments Programs Payment Options | TLC Treatment Center in Mesa helped me get my life back on track. I came in feeling lost and honestly didn’t expect much, but the structure, support, and community completely changed that.
The staff doesn’t sugarcoat things they’re honest, and they push you to do the work, but they also care. You’re not just another number here. They helped me with job search, recovery goals, and even housing support while I was in outpatient treatment.
It’s not about luxury, it’s about real recovery. If you’re looking for a treatment program in Mesa that actually works and holds people accountable, I’d recommend TLC 100%.

I’ve seen a lot of treatment centers come and go, but TLC in Mesa really stands out. The program is structured and holds you accountable, but there’s also genuine care behind the rules. The staff meets you where you’re at, and it’s clear they want to see people succeed.
They helped me not just with recovery, but with job readiness and life skills too. Housing was included while I was in outpatient, and that stability made a huge difference. If you’re serious about turning things around, this place can give you a real shot.
It’s not fancy or flashy, but it works and that’s what matters. I’d recommend TLC to anyone in Mesa or nearby who’s looking for solid support and real results in their recovery journey.

I learned a lot going to TLC. I have heard many stories about others and how they don’t work but this one works! The staff are absolutely amazing and help anyone and everyone in anyway possible. It’s a 4 month treatment center but in that 4 months they teach you so much and they help you get back on your feet. You go out and look for jobs so that when your time is done there you should have a job and some money saved up and not just thrown back out in the streets! This place was a god send!

I came here for several reasons. About 8 hours in, I decided it was not for me and that I was leaving. They encouraged me to not leave. Everyone was great! Very nice, hospitable and friendly. Tony was an absolute great guy. He listened to me and even spoke with my partner. It was a pleasure knowing him. He had total respect for me and my feelings. I so much appreciate him. Thank you Tony.
