When I was completely hopeless and couldn't stop even when I wanted to, I didn't have anywhere to turn. My family didn't know how to help make the pain stop either but the staff at Athens Area Commencement Center did and they did so with love, compassion, and complete understanding. They saw me as a person in pain and not as a problem and helped me rebuild my life from the inside out. Today I am a present mother and have a connection with that same family that was once as hopeless as I was, that I never thought was possible. If you want a way out, this place works miracles and I am one of them.

Stepping Stones to Recovery truly changed my life. When I started their intensive outpatient program, I was struggling and unsure if I could ever break free from addiction. From day one, the staff made me feel welcome and supported. They treated me with respect and compassion, never judging my past but always encouraging my progress. The group sessions were incredibly powerful—sharing my story and hearing others helped me realize I wasn’t alone. The counselors are knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely invested in everyone’s recovery. They provided practical tools for managing cravings, rebuilding relationships, and handling life’s challenges without turning back to old habits. I appreciated how the program was flexible enough to fit my work schedule, but still intensive enough to keep me accountable. The focus on mental health and holistic wellness, not just sobriety, made a huge difference for me. I finished the program feeling stronger, more hopeful, and ready for long-term recovery. If you’re struggling and considering help, I highly recommend Stepping Stones to Recovery. Their IOP is the best decision I’ve ever made!

Before this director there have been times where the wait was over 5 hours! It no longer is like that, she's very nice, the counselors I have encountered are also nice and tend to help. After numerous hospitalizations and 4 prior treatment centers, Rivermend Health's Bluff Plantation in Augusta was a vital turning point in our son's life. Staff and programs are refreshing and hands down more effective, holistic, professional, communicative, and involved than any others. They passionately work with patients and families to change lives. The follow through with support programs for depression and substance abuse is unprecedented in 10 years of struggle. They were the 3rd biggest step in my road to recovery. The entire staff that I've had the pleasure of meeting are very kind. I've been coming here over 2 years now, with their help. They have helped me in many more ways than prescribing methadone. They have several counselors for you to speak to and go hand in hand with recovery. They also have certified peers to speak with about anything you may not feel comfortable telling your counselor yet. For the first time in 2 decades, I can truthfully say I am happy to be alive. I've been going here for over twelve years altogether. I've found every person working there to be thoughtful, attentive, understanding, and wholly involved and committed to the successful recovery and/or development of their patients to be able to live a more self-sufficient and self-satisfying life, as free from the horrors and pain of mental illnesses. In order to get the very best care along with the very best results and treatment, it's important to become your own best advocate. You must speak up and out and let people know what kind of issues you're dealing with, and what kind of path you'd like to take through the journey to healing and recovery. The staff at the Hartzog Center have always encouraged me to be the primary person in charge of my care and treatment. They've always listened to my needs, been incredibly supportive of everything I am trying to achieve, and have always been terribly easy to talk to, and to get help from when designing my own personal treatment plan. If you want good care, you've got to be a great patient. Nobody can read your mind. The staff at the Hartzog Center in North Augusta definitely care, and always support and encourage every patient to be involved and be proactive with the choices they make towards furthering their treatment goals.

The ER is for Emergencies. People use the ER like it's their own private doctor and it takes time and resources away from those that truly need it. Great staff.
