But at Bethel they just have an entry fee and really understand where you're coming from. They are dedicated to helping broken men get a new start in life. My friend has never been better and has been sober for three years now. 7 years ago I have recently brought another friend to Bethel in hopes that God will do for him what he did for my other friend, who stayed 9 months voluntarily. With no place to go, his mother who was going blind had sold her home and was moving into assisted living, saw such a change in her son that she forfeited her deposit, bought another house, and asked him to come home. He is now taking care of his “legally blind” mom and was recently asked DWI charges in the first 6 months I knew him. Was a drug dealer for years and served years in prison. Say 3 months ago I went to this bethel colony of mercy in the early 2000's. I lived in New Jersey and a friend got me a bus ticket and sent me to the colony. I got clean for a while but backslid after a couple of years. But the seed was planted. I got my GED at Caldwell community college while I was there. Many years later on March 30th of 2011 I lost my mom .. that was the day I grew up. I relapsed again for the last time and went to prison for 3 years and finally got clean for good. Bethel colony planted the seed and I'm a better person today. Thank God I went to this place. It did change my life ... My bad lifestyle finally caught up to me and I'm dealing with a lot of health problems. I'm still in a positive mindset even through my trials. The staff have always been super nice and helpful. We started out with the nurse practitioner Sonya and she was amazing. Understandably, she felt my child had far more issues than she could help with (I adopted a child with MANY mental issues so I understood completely). She referred us to Dr. Igbul who was also amazing. At the time for one of her appointments, he was out of town and we got scheduled with Dr. Fairchild. She is absolutely nothing short of amazing. She has helped so much and has answered questions I have had for years that nobody has been able to answer in 10 years. I will stick with Dr. Fairchild forever. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel safe and supported. The counselors are compassionate and truly understand addiction. The therapy sessions were incredibly helpful, and I learned so much about myself and the underlying causes of my addiction. What sets Willow Ridge apart is the sense of community. I connected with other patients who were going through similar struggles, and we supported each other every step of the way. The group activities and outings were also a lot of fun and helped me rediscover some of my passions. My recovery journey started with October Road when I entered their PHP program, which at the time was called the River House. One thing I’ve learned in recovery is that many treatment programs struggle with staffing, and people in early recovery often don’t have positive examples to look up to. That was not my experience here—far from it. I was surrounded by staff who genuinely cared and demonstrated what recovery, professionalism, and service look like every day. The BHTs, clinicians, counselors, and support staff created an environment that was both structured and supportive. Justin, Alex, Chuck, and Gray made a lasting impact on me. They treated us with dignity, held us accountable, and encouraged us to believe that a better life was possible. The community was just as important. The groups were meaningful, the other clients became a source of support, and the overall culture helped me build a strong foundation for recovery. During my time there, I served as the cook for my house and even became the barber for many of the clients. We built healthy relationships, supported one another, and enjoyed simple things like going to the river after clinical days. I continued my journey with October Road through IOP and early recovery services. Even today, I still use October Road for my medical needs. I also return from time to time to speak with clients and share my experience, strength, and hope. Today, I serve in a leadership role in recovery and reentry services with a community-based organization called Operation Gateway. The foundation for the work I do today was built at October Road. The lessons, support, and examples I received there helped shape the person and professional I have become. I have a great deal of love and respect for everyone involved with this organization. They were part of the beginning of a life-changing journey, and I will always be grateful for the role they played in my recovery. They have all the tools that one would need to start and sustain being sober/recovery. I personally completed inpatient at the RiverHouse. Then I completed intensive outpatient, followed by Early recovery. The staff is very involved with the whole process, start to finish. Oh, I forgot to mention that I currently have therapist via October rd once weekly which has helped me tremendously. My overall experience was very good 👍. I just currently celebrated one year of sobriety and still going strong. It was my rock bottom. Part of my sentence was to get an assessment and complete some sessions with a counselor. Although I was nervous and in over my head the assessor was so kind and really listened to me and directed me through everything I needed to know. The sessions were great and meeting everyone in my same boat was emotional and brought me back to reality. I have been and remained sober coming up on a year now and am much better for it. It has been a while since I received treatment, but I think about it often and how transformative the experience was. After attempting to receive care at a traditional rehab, it was clear I needed a bit more help than what they could offer. I was serious about my recovery and willing to do anything to obtain sobriety, even if it meant taking the uncomfortable leap and acknowledging how significant a role my mental health played in my addiction. While not every day was a walk in the park, I recognize that The Willows played an integral role in my recovery, pushing when they needed and making space when I did. Yes, being surrounded by a multitude of other women with equal, if not more, significant challenges can be complex. But staying focused on my own life and recovery, while empathizing with others', helped me avoid tangles and clashes. The location is perfect, beautiful, and serene. The house is just as lovely. The meals were excellent, and the support services provided by the staff rival any treatment I have received to date. Staying the 90 days, then heeding their advice and going to sober living, was the best decision I have ever made in life. I recognize that I have to claim the work I did and the success I made as my own, but I would be fooling myself if I didn't acknowledge that I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
