I was a horrible husband, a manipulative son, and a wicked neighbor. Fortunately the Son of Man had other plans for me. He said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.” (Mark 2:17) And to say I was sick was a vast understatement. I was one injection of fentanyl away from death. I had no intentions whatsoever of changing. I only attended U Turn to placate my family and the law. I had several warrants out for my arrest and a bounty hunter after me, yet the Lord used Pastor John and his patience plus persistence to reach me. When I finally submitted to his authority and actually read the word I was completely and radically transformed instantaneously from a son of satan into an adopted son of the most high God. I have been sober over 3 years now and my entire life is dedicated towards shining as a light pointing towards Christ and the work He did on the cross (Ephesians 5:8). I teach children’s ministry at Calvary Chapel in Carson Valley with my amazing wife Ana who also happened to be my first convert 😀. The Lord answered our heart’s desire when he gave us the most beautiful son ever who just turned one year old named Titus. Of course I owe all my gratitude towards the Father for drawing me near, the Son for dying for me and receiving me into His kingdom, and the Holy Spirit for transforming me into a new creation as well as sanctifying me. Pastor John and U Turn played an instrumental role within my regeneration and I will forever be grateful to everyone there. I had been to over 20 programs in my life before U Turn and attempted to beat my addiction via every worldly solution imaginable, yet now as I look back it was all rubbish until I had met Christ. Took a long time to realize that to change I needed to do it for me. We all have our own personal walk with our Lord and Savior. I was there 15 months, amd yes it's a 8 month program. I was a late Bloomer. The first phase is hard, doing jobs in the community, and not seeing the rewards. But trust me they are waiting for you. I've had to dig a five by five hole. It took a lot to be disciplined. Thanks to me I made it easier. Sorry Pastor for the grey hairs. I would like to address the negative comments about the digging holes in 112 temperature, and being left off at gas stations. Phase one men don't dig till after 9pm and Pahrump is not 112 at night Secondly phase 2 men can dig at any time, for any duration as long as it's done in 3 days, exceptions are made. In regards to dropping men off at gas station, a call is made to inform friend or family, of situation. Men who walk off property are mostly welcome back, the punishment is digging a hole. Hence in life we have a choice. I recommend this program. It's a working ranch, and yes they feed you good. They don't call it the u turn40 for a reason for a reason. I thought The counseling cast of employees were really good teachers, guides for acknowledging that life is best while sober. I think that The WESTCARE program is an awesome way to get a clean start back to the life of Joy and great health. LEO , who is I believe still in charge of organizing and scheduling everything for the Men in the program. Leo is a TRULY amazing man that has been through it all with substance addiction. I remember he showed us while he lived in LA he was on the News for when he hit rock bottom. But teaching us how to be better Men mentally, physically and emotionally!. He said something I will never forget... He said everyone attempts to quit multiple times. But when you are truly ready is when you have reached total exhaustion. Tired of the every day struggles. Tired of being on the top bunk in jail and having the bright lights from the ceiling blasting in your face. You can't turn those off but instead have to consistently be bothered by them. Leo is the best mentor, counselor, teacher that a program could have. I always had the UP most respect for him and what ALL he brings to that program. My last interaction with him was when we won our last basketball game. Mike Richie was one of the more memorable councilors with his 4:30 a.m. formation call-out in the freezing weather just to tell you how great the weather is in the Bahamas. It's one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I've ever been to. I made a whole lot of great memories and friends up there. And would go back every summer to beat this Vegas heat and for the peace of mind this wonderful place on earth gives you. Thanks to West Cares staff, programs, and counselors I finally found relief from the insanity and chaos that has been my life. They never gave up on me. Never judging or refusing to treat me. I have been through the detox there several times before they stop doing detox. I truly believe that I FINALLY MADE IT.. This was my first time going through HSR. They NEVER made me feel judged at all which is something I truly appreciate. The front desk lady is always in a great mood and she does her job fantastically! The only complaint I do have is since they changed their hours, I called and told them I was 2 minutes away and if they can hold the door open for me and she said no in a very rude way. Other then this BHG is AMAZING and I would recommend it to any addict trying to get clean or even if you had a small lapse, go get help! They will go out of there way to make you feel comfortable. And of course I wanted to give a shout out to the BEST consular there... Anthony! He is never pushy, easy to talk to and open up with and he doesnt expect perfection or make me feel judged or bad about myself in any way. He is a true goddess and he deserves a raise!! The nursing staff were incredibly qualified and professional, which gave me confidence in the level of care provided here. What really stood out to me was how personal and flexible everything felt. There’s no strict, stingy corporate atmosphere like you might find elsewhere. It feels like a place where individual needs actually matter. I was wounded in Afghanistan in 2009. The skin graft on my right leg had an infection and the ER was really helpful. I got antibiotics and ointment within two hours. I was just a patient following given information and directives, and at the end I was being (indirect about way as the problem) made the one accountable for their misunderstanding and inability to communicate effectively. Once I realized it was futile trying to explain further to the nurse and PA, I began to leave while the PA continued to engage and agitate, seemingly trying to come off as the one justified. On my way out, he displayed his bravado and threatened to call security, wow! Guy’s emotionally triggered with an ego problem.
