So grateful to have had the opportunity to be a client at ARC. I feel like a brand new healthier person. The staff have all been through recovery and they get it. The classes made me realize why I continued to fall into the addiction pattern and how to break it. Will forever be grateful for my ARC family!

Providence Recovery Place is truly a beacon of hope and healing. The professional, caring staff, many of whom have personally walked the recovery path, create a powerful community where lives are transformed. I've witnessed countless residents return to work, to family, and to continue their education, a testament to the program's lasting impact. One resident endearingly described Our Master's Camp as the 'brotherhood of the broken'—a compassionate, faith-filled community that helps break the chains of addiction and find true hope in Christ ... a real healing community. Through my work listening and documenting residents' stories, I am deeply impressed by the strong faith, genuine care, and remarkable success stories of so many whose lives have been changed. This is more than recovery; it’s a life restored.

If i could put a 0 star review I would. The receptionists are terrible! I called to talk to a patient and the receptionist was extremely rude and spoke in a condescending tone. With all due respect, this place does NOT hire adequate people. I am not saying all the receptionists are bad, I talked to one lady and she was sweet but the second one I got? TERRIBLE. When answering the phone they should atleast treat the person calling with respect, instead they're rude! Hire people that help the rates of the center go up not tank them down and remove the ones that dont help! Do better and make sure your staff treats people with respect!

DO NOT send your kids here. If I could give 0 zero stars, I would. I was honestly afraid to write a review here for years, but I figured it’s time that I speak out. I spent 3 months in the residential program here when I was 16 (in 2022). It was the most traumatizing experience of my life, and that’s coming from someone who’s been through a laundry list of traumas. For starters, 85% of the staff there act like complete sociopaths who get their kicks out of traumatizing children. I saw a staff member throw a girl on her face, and whenever the kids got into fist fights or tried to hurt themselves (which was almost daily) the staff were very slow to break it up. It was almost as if this was entertaining for them. Not to mention the fact that they cussed and screamed at us regularly. They also refused to let us go outside for a whole FIFTEEN DAYS at one point. Yes, I counted. They also monitored every single phone call and letter that I exchanged with my family; if I tried to speak out about the abuse, they would tell my mother that I was “being manipulative” and they’d threaten to end the phone call. To add to the staff issue, the “therapist” that I was assigned verbally berated me in her office on numerous occasions. She told me that I deserved to be removed from my home, that all I did was cause problems at home, etc. When I misunderstood an assignment she gave me, she crumpled up my paper and said “you better do it right this time” in an angry voice. I have AUTISM. Of course I’m going to misunderstand things sometimes. Whenever I tried to speak up for myself (I was very respectful about it) she would cut me off and say that I was “talking back.” She would yell in my face till I cried, and then tell me that if I continued crying, she’d write me up or something along those lines. I understand that I wasn’t a total angel back then, but no amount of “bad behavior” warrants treating a child this way. When I was in this facility, another resident came into my room at night and tried to touch me. It took me shoving her off of me and screaming “hey, don’t touch me” for staff to come in (several seconds later) and remove her. I was already sexually abused as a child, so this was extremely scary for me. The fact that the supervision was lacking to a point where a sexual assault almost occurred is insane. Around that time, I contracted COVID severely. The nurses refused to give me any medicine for the first few days of me having COVID. I was coughing nonstop, snotting, lethargic, feverish, etc. and they just said “you have anxiety. Go back to bed.” About 6 days into the COVID, I was so ill that they had to transfer me to the local ER. Luckily my lungs weren’t damaged and I didn’t end up on a ventilator, but the thought of dying in that facility and never seeing my mother again was constantly going through my mind. Many other horrible things happened there, but this review is already long enough. So the bottom line is: DO NOT send your kid to this place. Please. They will come out with so much more trauma than they came in with, and it may take them years to heal. When I left this place, I was a traumatized shell of my former self, and I’m still going to therapy to deal with said trauma. So if you have a kid who is in need of help, please do extensive research into these places and listen to the reviews. You’ll spare them (and yourself) from a whole lot of anguish.

Dear Charles George VA Medical Center Team, On behalf of our entire family, I want to express our deepest gratitude for the compassion, dignity, and honor you showed to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mike McClure, during his final days. What could have been an unbearably painful experience was made profoundly human and meaningful because of the care and respect your team provided. We would especially like to recognize Jason, the nurse on the 2nd floor ICU. His kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion went far beyond what we ever expected. Jason took the time to truly know our grandfather — not just as a patient, but as a person. He treated him with such respect and dignity, and his gentle manner brought great comfort to both Mike and our entire family. Jason, originally from Milwaukee, exemplifies what it means to serve with heart. Our family has been coming to Charles George VA for over 50 years, and through every season of life, you have cared for us with grace, empathy, and excellence. When our grandfather passed, the way your team honored him — with the playing of trumpets and the entire floor showing their respect as he was wheeled out — was one of the most moving and beautiful gestures we have ever witnessed. We are forever grateful for the humanity, honor, and love that you showed our family in this difficult time. Thank you for reminding us what true care and compassion look like. With sincere appreciation and respect, The McClure Family

They cover. I wish the English would fill their mouths with fresh cotton. They force me to stay while my complaining husband finds a new partner. My English family wishes for me to live here forever thinking it is the worst place to suffer for an Irish. English family is confused thinking this is a living facility. Also, English family is confused upon return to home I am not mentally incapacitated while Irish family is forced through English control to secretly struggle to revive me. I enjoy leisurely walking through the beautiful, old neighborhood. They support my use of many options such as lavender and salt rock lamps. I appreciate the suggestion to use Lovely ginger chews candy as a couple of them fully address nausea. 🚫 😰 🪴 🪨 🚫 🤢 🫚 The staff help. I hate they poke me. After my experience, I am advised and move back to my hometown. My experience is partially due to a young marriage. 🚫 💉 🚫 🩸 🏡 Their on site art and engagement activities encourage and make me realize the importance of finding a fun toy or new interesting art activity. I start my paint by numbers. So far, some of the activities I have found to be enjoyable and beneficial are crochet, mixing play dough, a super squish fidget toy, magnetic putty for modeling, and a kaleidoscope to start to name a few. They teach me how to clear computer clutter including social media. 🪀 🪁 🧸 💦❔ 🧸 🛏️ ⁉️ 🥼🚫☠️❗️⚰️ 🥘 🖼️ 🚶‍♀️ 💊❗️🛏️🙅‍♀️💊 ‼️🚫💤‼️🛏️‼️🚕🏥💊💊🖼️🚫‼️🛏️‼️💤🚕🙅‍♀️❗️🛏️❗️🤷🏼‍♀️💊❕ I really enjoy some of their meals. Their grits have great toppings, their egg frittata is delicious, their fluffy biscuit goes well with cinnamon butter, and meatballs have great flavor with wonderful sides. Their greens are amazing. I wish more clients would look to gain missing ancestry knowledge. I miss the puzzle time. 🧩 They help me decided I need to just do a tiny little bit of school on the side. I take classes on curing skitzophenia and learn information such as staying away from orange juice which is full of sugar. Once in a while for special occasion a healthy soda is a special treat. Unfortunately, my English family is not able to support my health education. This information is part of my self care. I am glad I have the educational steps so I do not need to visit again. My family chooses not to support my betterment. My English aristocracy family chooses not to listen, they care about their wealth, and like to move me. They help professional identify and educate me on my divergent thinking which is caused by both my English and Irish ancestries. To address divergent thinking, they provide hard suggestions to continually study, work through, practice, and reflect on regarding more consideration of how to relate and figuring out what strategies are effective in building healthy relationship. I am good at working through a professional organization chart to help identify and assess past healthy social interaction. At the end, I am able to assess my slight adjustments to make the good situations more safe and healthy. After a doctor visit in high school, I am scarily concerned I have a related cancer. They thankfully and very smartly professionally address in my late 20s I personally progress to dealing with slight skitzophenia and provide education steps to move forward focusing on really strict healthy eating. They thankfully address my eating issue after I temporarily have not been able to eat what I need to. I love their food medicine. Unfortunately, my home community still chooses to be reluctant in providing my prescribed medicine. My community does not support my personal recommendation from Dr. Josh Axe. I am thankful this extra knowledge shares with my community underlying issue I address. I wish everyone visited the psychiatrist.

CooperRiis at Asheville Review I remember my three months in the summer of 2023, at CooperRiis at Asheville, quite fondly.  I was stabilized for a couple of years after that.  My only regret was not being able to stay in the program longer. I really credit the staff for their major role in stabilizing me, helping me adjust, and keeping me safe during those three months.  The staff saw me at my worst and at my best.  Somehow, they were able to help me reach a stable ground of somewhere in-between, of just being “fine”.  I really credit the special relationships I forged with the staff during that time period.  The staff kept me safe in times of manic periods, and kept me safe overall.  The staff got me thinking about Recovery and got me thinking about being well at home. I was able to receive extra counseling while I was there on Sundays, and sometimes during the week, which was so desperately needed.  I really credit Residential Evening for keeping me steady during my downtime.  The individual counseling sessions with my Team were also really helpful, as well as was Family Therapy.  The groups during the day were beneficial, too, and really added longer-term therapy and coping mechanisms to my stay. I would recommend that you stay at CooperRiis for as long as possible and go through Levels A, B, and C if you can.  This is the single, best, most important financial decision you will make for your mental health. CooperRiis takes a holistic approach, which was new and different for me.  But I benefitted greatly from this approach.  The delicious  (and new to me) Mediterranean Diet did wonders for my body for three months and taught me a lot about nutrition for mental health. Upon my return home, I was able to receive extra monthly support from the CooperRiis family education program, on a variety of interesting topics.  I also am able to keep in touch with the alumni contact person every so often.  I’ll continue to keep in touch with CooperRiis.  It was the best financial decision I ever made for myself. The staff are great, wonderful, patient people who are highly-qualified to do this job.  The staff at CooperRiis at Asheville really helps you with the road of recovery and a long-term period of stabilization.  I really miss all of the staff who were there during the Summer of 2023.  I think of you all, and Asheville, often, and remember what I have learned there.  Thank you for helping me during that time period of my life. I highly recommend CooperRiis at Asheville.

I have been to both the detox and rehab side of ADACT. I had a good experience. I felt welcomed and the staff is great especially Kelly, she goes above and beyond for the patients. The doctors and therapist helped me stabilize my meds. The classes were great too i learned different ways to cope and retrain my brain to start good habits to replace the bad. As an addict I felt like I was somewhere I could relate to my issues that not everyone can understand. Coming out of a toxic marriage that led to my addiction and mental health it was good to be somewhere different and around new people to get away from my usual triggers and start to take the first step to recovery and living a healthy life. When I finished they guided me in the right direction to continue staying on track for my recovery.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Life-Changing Experience — Forever Grateful Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center was the turning point in my life. After attending five different rehabs, I arrived here in 2020 feeling lost and uncertain if lasting change was possible. But this place—this team—changed everything for me. From the moment I walked through the doors, the front office staff greeted me with kindness and dignity. The nurses were compassionate and attentive, the recovery coaches and counselors truly listened, and the education team made learning feel meaningful again. My therapist was nothing short of life-changing—she helped me dig deeper and start healing in ways I never thought possible. Even the cafeteria staff made an impact. They didn’t just serve meals—they served encouragement with every plate, and their warmth stayed with me daily. Because of Julian F. Keith, I began to believe in myself again. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve earned my associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, and I’m now finishing my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Substance Use Disorders, with a focus on trauma and gender identity. I’m also a North Carolina Board Certified Peer Support Specialist, giving back to others just like me—because someone once did the same for me here. This center helped me reimagine my future and reconnect with my purpose. I will always carry gratitude in my heart for what they gave me. I genuinely believe that without their guidance, structure, and compassion, I would not be where I am today. Thank you to every single person at Julian F. Keith. You changed my life. —Jennifer Nicole Brooks

Dr.John Carter has been seeing my boys since small children. RE: A "edit" to my post- Today we learned that Dr Carter is retiring at the end of this month....a day I knew would eventually come, but had hoped would be a few more years away.... to see him 20 years +, it was emotional and very sad news😢. We were told a "Dr. Lee who is a good doctor, and younger" wI'll be taking Dr. Carter's position the first of January. My son is not pleased at all, but we will have to wait and see if they "connect" in February. I could not be more grateful for the care I received here. The staff are amazing and will make sure that you are always comfortable. You will be respected, heard, and treated with dignity. You won't be dismissed, all your questions will be answered. Be completely honest so that you can receive the exact care that you need. You could not ask for better accomodations or understanding. The environment is immediately welcoming. Its quiet, peaceful. They have everything you need, you really just need clothing. (Its a bit chilly, bring hoodies and fuzzy socks) There are even laundry facilities. You will be provided with a vape or nicotine patches if you use nicotine products. You may rest as much as you need, the staff will let you sleep through the night, vitals are during the day. You can call your family, except for during group meetings. No visitors, but the stay is short. The counselors and peer support specialists are very honest, open, and eager to help you with your personal journey, without being pushy or making you feel rushed. Whether faith based or evidence based care is right for you, that is your choice. There are options for both approaches! The idea of group meetings was terrifying for me, an introvert, an addict full of shame and guilt. You are not obligated to contribute, that was reassuring. But I was surprised at myself for wanting to contribute and engage. It was a bit sad leaving. While here, I was not just a junkie, just an alcoholic, a lost cause, all of the negative adjectives I used to describe myself. I wasn't the things my family called me. I wasn't an echo of the childhood I lost. I wasn't an empty, lonely vessel on autopilot. I was a person. A human. Im more than my story, but sharing our perspectives and caring for each other felt like being part of a family. A family where you aren't the black sheep. It was almost overwhelming to feel that kind of support and HOPE. Ill be honest; When I came in, i wasn't ready to get help. The timing was just right. But very quickly that changed. They made me want to be better. Not for recognition or pats on the back. Not for attention or brownie points. They made me want it because they made me see I deserve it, I deserve to live a good life and be happy. If you are thinking about making some changes, please come here. What do you have to lose?

I honestly would of gave it a 5 star. But a couple of staff were not nice to me. It was mostly night shift. One made fun of me Stimming and i have Autism. She laughed at me stimming on my tippy toes. Jenesia a tech is very rude. Told me i couldn’t go on my tippy toes. That its not allowed, but thats my way of coping/stimming. That i needed a doctor’s order. Which i didn’t i talked to the doctor. I understand the reason why they have to keep the doors open all night. But they could of at least dimmed the lights. It kept going in my eyes and waking me up. I didnt get much sleep being there. That doesn’t help me with my physical conditions. Now for the compliments. Unit 2 overall is such a good unit. I did get treated like a human being I felt safe, and supported. Not like the other ones i have been to that made me feel horrible like we weren’t human beings. Dr.Feldman Lance, now hes the best doctor I have had in any mental health facility. He actually listens to u(if ur not mean or give attitude) and he gets things done. He is also so sweet and very nice, and understanding. I don’t like talking alone to males but with him I was ok. He is nice and gave a nice vibe! Megan the tech is another great staff member! She made me feel safe while I was there. I could talk to her about anything! She was just there! Shes so nice too. Then there is Abby another tech. Shes super nice as well! She helped me calm down . She let me keep stimming on my tippy toes even when other staff said i couldn’t. That made me cry and get upset because they said I couldn’t. But she calmed me down! She is a really good one. And then there is Kenzie the therapist. She was very nice! She cared alot! She listened and helped me understand what I was confused about. She was so sweet! Then there was a group therapist named Kathleen. Oh boy she helped so much! I loved attending her groups when i could of. I am actually going to take what she told us and work on it in my therapy sessions! She made sure everyone got there questions asked. She was really nice because the group room door slams, and I get overwhelmed with that. She made sure it didn’t slam. But overall I would definitely recommend this facility! Now it is different experiences for everyone!

After reading some of the misguided comments directed at Dr. Boppana, I felt it necessary to add a counterpoint. I’m so glad to have been assigned to this outstanding physician. Although his personal inclination is to not make much eye to eye contact, he is very attentive to what is being said by redirecting his focus away from the speaker. In so far as putting in a Bluetooth device while the patient is still speaking, this is in order to proceed directly into making the necessary consults in order to address the issues being described to him in real time. I was personally helped by his calling of no less than three people in order to accommodate my needs. Thank you Dr. Boppana.

I've been very happy with my experiences at this place so far, it has a very warm and inviting atmosphere and it feels like the staff actually cares. :) I'm feeling more optimistic about my mental health than I have in quite a while thanks to them, looking forward to my future appointments!

I am grateful for the services Appalachian has provided over the past 6-7 years for my patients. Yes, they are understaffed and they are overworked, but they are also the only organization available in our area for people with mental health crises. There is a severe statewide and national problem of inadequate mental health services. Without Appalachian, our community would be in far worse shape, because there is nothing else like it available in this whole region. Despite the time it takes for some services, I believe they literally save lives.

I had Cherry and Kristen as my main nurses and the both of them were super helpful and always there when I called them. They were very polite and understanding even if I was being a bit of a hard head at the moment. They are amazing employees who are clearly dedicated to making sure their jobs are done correctly and professionally

Our experience at SMC Mary Black Campus was great all around! My mom was there for over two weeks for a surgery that transitioned into a stay in the rehab center. From surgery to the orthopedic floor, to rehab - almost every single person we encountered was prompt, friendly, patient, and helpful while we were navigating new territory with my Mom. Some were more enthusiastic than others, several provided outstanding care, but I always came away from the facility thinking that the majority of people we encountered were happy to be at their job. It was very refreshing!

Everyone I came in contact with was extremely nice to me. My doctor Dr.Douglass first time meeting him that day very nice Gentleman would highly recommend him. The nurses and everyone in the procedure room ease all your worries of being scared and anxious. My Anesthesiologist was so nice and explained what his role was to calm my nerves and have a good outcome. My recovery nurse was the sweetest gave me all my instructions for home and Dr. Douglass came by and explained what my colonoscopy and endoscopy showed and the steps he took to care about my health.10out of 10 was my experience.

I sent my 16 yr. old son to TRAILS in September 2023 and he graduated 3 months later. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They taught him how to survive and thrive in the woods of North Carolina. They taught him how to express his feelings and needs in a way that is respectful to everyone around him. They helped him learn about himself and brought his self-talk over to the positive side of things. They taught him that "he can do hard things". My family is so grateful to this group of people who run this program. We dropped off an angry, selfish, going-nowhere good kiddo and after a lot of work, missteps, repetition, and encouragement, my son had a fabulous growth experience at TRAILS that will serve him the rest of his life. Parents, do not hesitate to go with this program.

I can't thank Peggy Lombardo (Alumni Coordinator) enough for saving a family member's life. She befriended "Will" long before he was willing to seek help. He was never alone in life because she checked on him regularly and gently coaxed him into getting the help that he desperately needed. Approximately 7 months after reaching out, Will made the decision to better his life by accepting Peggy's offer of help. Once his decision was made, Peggy instantly started moving mountains to get him the help he needed. She was in daily contact with his family offering her advice, supplying helpful contact information, and even talking him through his fears when they became too great and he wanted to run. As a result of Peggy's unrelenting quest to help Will, he has received a Certificate of Completion from the Midwood Addiction Program where he received counseling, housing, a sense of community, independence, and gradually took control of his life again. A little over a month after graduating, Will has found employment and is ready to start this new healthy chapter in his life. When asked if he ever talks to Peggy anymore, the answer is "yes! she's full of valuable resources.". How do you thank someone who has saved the life of someone you thought was lost forever? There is no repayment plan that could ever be enough for this angel on earth. Peggy will always be our angel. She truly has an amazing gift and we are forever in her debt. XO

Great place! Coming into this I was a little skeptical about being treated well. The staff and therapist took their time with me, to tend to my needs as a new patient. I had some bumps along the way until I met Evie Dillard. She was so helpful to me by giving me extra resources to get ready to exit treatment. I’m talking about food, shelter and even information about great jobs. I started working, got a place to rest my and made great friend for life. Thank you so much, Evie.

Lemme tell you about the housing situation 1st. I read the good reviews and the horrible and the bad kinda concerned me. I can tell you the bad was not only exaggerated but most just someone salty and spreading total BS. There are no rodents and I've never been to a house that had zero bugs not even a fly before I got here, not even my father's house. Ok so these 2 floor some with a upper smoking/ lounge deck are nice nice! 4 bedroom 3 full double sink bathrooms , two with walk-in shower , I bath / shower and a half bath by living room. It's fully stocked with any pans coffee pot anything you need. The staff are some of the nicest ppl and you absolutely get to know them. You are treated pretty much how you treat them. Just be kind! Midwood center was the one I went to and the staff there are always awesome. If you need something just speak up, I've seen ppl come through and expect everyone to be mind readers. I would list everyone I love at Harmony but I'm horrible with names but there are standouts. Christine, Crystn (sik). Byron,Lisa, Miss Gail ( Amber always pushing DBT therapy 😬) Bobby, the tech who's name escapes me that calls everyone "Big Dog) And Lastly but firstly Miss Peggy who is the sweetest person I've ever met and she saved my life just by getting to know me calling my phone to talk to someone else. She had my back and actually drove to Salvation Army and helped me get insurance, talked me into Salvation Army in first place and bought my broke ass two packs of smokes She is absolutely a gift from God and deserves to be the highest paid at Harmony! But I'm betting she would do it for free No fear y'all this place is absolutely what you make it. Buddy Stovall

The Crisis Stabilization Unit literally saved my life. I walked in broken and defeated and left feeling hopeful for the first time in years. I don't know where they found all the wonderful people who work there but I'm glad I met every single one of them. If you're struggling with an addiction or find yourself in a mental health crisis and fear is keeping you from taking the big step through the doors of a facility like that, please know that you will be met with nothing but love, kindness, patience and genuine concern that you get better. My higher power and reason to stay sober is that I wouldn't want any of their efforts to have been a waste and, even though they'd never know if I drank again, the thought of disappointing any of the people who helped me get sober is reason enough to never back-slide.
