This place is honestly not bad. My first days were horrible but everyone that i talked to related, and had the same first few days as me. the techs are nice and i actually connected with some of them. I actually plan working here as soon as i can because of how hard the techs work and inspire me.

I was extremely hesitant because I had a previous bad experience at another facility, but this place did wonders. Amazing staff, it was clean and organized. Most importantly, my daughter learned a lot of helpful coping skills and she came out much much better than she went in. I couldn’t thank you all enough for that.

Personally, the residential program at michiana helped me SO much. It's run by an amazing program manager, Becca, who goes out of her way to make sure you get the help you need. I spent almost 4 months there and I have to say I'm going to miss it. At first I hated it but over time it insentivised me to change and it helped me love myself enough to want that change. I had a visitation one time and my mom hadnt seen me in like 2 months and she said i was literally glowing, like this program helped put life back in me. Also, staff are so nice and caring. And while some got on my nerves they only had the best intentions. I'll truly never forget what I learned here. Thank you RTC. :) -Lilly
My daughter is now 5 years old, she’s been seeing Jill for the last 1.5 year. To say that she’s one of the best is an understatement. I personally have been in therapy for anxiety and there’s no one who compares to her. My daughter went through something very devastating & Jill has been our light through it. If you’re in need of a therapist, this is definitely the place for you! Erin & Darla, the receptionist are just as wonderful. My little girl loves all 3 of these individuals and looks forward to going everytime. Such a welcoming & passionate environment. Although this has been a very difficult thing for my family, Brighter Tomorrows is what gives us hope.

I spent 3 months at ICFR South Bend. It was the 4th facility I had been at since August 2025. I can honestly say this place was a great experience for me. I came to know the staff and truly believed they had my best interest at heart. Sometimes there were communication issues but for the most part it was a nurturing, supportive environment. There were a few staff members who made my stay special. Facilitators Stephanie, Dr. Steph and Heather as well as Client Care Coordinator Constance were extremely helpful. They were a great resource and a wealth of information. I don't think my experience would have been as positive without them.

Good place to get help but beware of the groups they force you to talk about issues and then the groups are supposed to be confidential no they are not.my medication doctor sent a referral over about individual therapy which was for a female but instead set me up with a male.my medication doctor stopped communicating and listening to me and chose to listen and communicate with my behavior staff who I see once a week.i like Dr. Soleai but I am the patient not the behavior staff.

I'm pleased to say that there has been many good changes at Oaklawn. I've been going here off and on in the 40+ years since I was in high school (back when it was known as Madison Center), and 99% of the psychiatrists and counselors have always been very good. Though they are not immune from their own confirmation bias. Unfortunately, even though I like most of them, frontline staff has been in the past unsympathetic and cruel.
When you're mentally ill, specifically having Major Depressive Disorder, doing anything at all can seem like an impossible task. Just getting out of bed can be terrifying and seem to have no point. And after you had to fight yourself and the world to get there, being required to fight for yourself and the respect everyone deserves, in a place where they're supposed to be there to help people with mental illnesses, is really not just inappropriate but unforgivable. Fortunately, management is approachable, and will listen. At least they have to me, and have thanked me for bringing certain issues to their attention. Even writing me a letter a week or so after we spoke.
I don't work there, and I only know the things that I've seen and experienced firsthand, but it seems like a much friendlier place to work, less sterile. Which I'm sure positively affects the frontline staffs attitudes. And though frontline staff can seem clickish, and move to defend themselves as a group when one is criticized by a patient, say by gaslighting that patient, management is aware that that is inappropriate.
In the 5 years since my previous review, I only recall one single negative experience.

A decent place for low cost psychiatric care. But the front desk staff in the Physicians floor can be extraordinary rude and unsympathetic. Especially if you mention any displeasure with Oaklawn's rules, they seem to take it as a personal insult, and really need to get a job outside of psychiatric care, because they are not suited for it. They are also discouraging when you come to make an appointment, or pick up patient assistance medications, Etc. They often don't know what they're talking about, so don't let them discourage you from what you're trying to do and insist that they pass on messages to the people and doctors you are trying to contact.

After I got to the level of methadone where I felt I had no erges to chase drugs on the street, I feel so good, the first time in 40years. I feel normal.
They have helped my life with addiction and as caused the rest of my life to reform and become better then it has been in a long time. It's not just them that has to put the work in. You have to do it for yourself as well. They have never lied nor been on bullshit with me. And they always have a helping hand if you need one.

This place is awesome, you'll get what you put into it. If your not serious about recovery you'll probably think not, if you are serious this is a safe, drug free place for you to go were we hold each other accountable, until our minds are free enough to hold ourselves accountable. This place really did help me become a productive member of society again.

As of this writing I have a years experience with this location and program so will try and clarify things a bit. An important thing to understand is that each house is independent and ran by the current residents under guidelines set forth by its area chapter which in turn is governed by the state chapter then national program. Each house is run democratically by its residents with a persons power being in their vote. I feel most of the negative reviews I've heard are from those who relapsed or who routinely or egregiously violated rules and were kicked out. The only violations that allow for immediate expulsion are relapse, violence, or those of a potentially criminal nature. This program is not a good fit for everyone as it is more of a peer supported independent living type situation. It is not as rigidly governed as many halfway houses and is better suited for those comfortable in recovery and capable of living independently but still desiring some structure and guidance. As for Emyla specifically I would say it is a great location. It is near downtown with Leeper Park and the river nearly next door. The residents tend to be easy going and get along well. The house is big with 3 full baths, 3 kitchens, and 2 living rooms. It is worth looking into the place to see if it is for you but remember it is not for everyone.
My experience at choices was the best thing I had ever experienced in my life, MS.RACHAEL always had time for me to vent,cry, or just have a normal conversation,not to mention laughter. She is just an ANGEL ON EARTH, just as MS MONICA AND MS. KENZIE, these three LADIES changed my LIFE FOREVER. Ii was a lost soul just wondering around here on earth but they cared enough to show me how,when,why,and where I should be going in life and because of these 3 ANGELS I now own a 2 story log cabin in the woods in TN. , I work for the county HWY DEPARTMENT as an equipment operator and I have taken my life back because of THEIR BELIEF IN ME. if I went to every rehab center in the world I would have never found what I did with the WHOLE STAFF AT CHOICES, LOVE THEM FOREVER, AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ALL I CAN BE!! VERY MUCH LOVE TO ALL

The staff is constantly dedicated to providing mental, physical and emotional support, remedies and healing. No matter what your background or problems are, these caring people will be there for you and provide the support you need. They've been working with me for nearly a decade now and still haven't given up on me, when anyone else would've.
It helped my daughter she is more happier she has been there for a year and she changed alot

They did a wonderful job with our son. When our son was discharged, he was a different kid for the better. Oaklawn is a great facility, and I would recommend this place to anyone. The staff are very professional and know what to do and how to do it to help the children.

What an outstanding experience at Four County, I enjoyed talking to my counselor, she actually seemed to care about her patients unlike some of my past counselors at other facilities, there is a structured program to follow that helps you to stay sober! I would recommend this center to anyone who needs a real change!

After completing inpatient rehabilitation, I transitioned into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Parkdale Center and I can say with my whole heart that it was one of the most life-changing and soul-healing experiences I’ve ever had. Parkdale didn’t just help me continue my recovery, they helped me to continue to find myself again. They believed in me, held space for my pain, and gave me the tools and encouragement to continue to rise stronger than I ever thought possible.
From the leadership to the support staff, everyone at Parkdale exudes compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to healing. But what makes Parkdale truly exceptional are people like Rigo and Claudia. They treated me not like a number or a case, but like family. Having used their facilities for our Union members and for a family member, the counselors are caring, responsive, and communicate very well on a treatment plan and objectives & goals. Ms Tori awesome!!!!! The group meetings and accountability for each other in treatment works in a great atmosphere. I would strongly recommend this facility if a friend, co-worker, and family members are in need of help with addictions and/or mental health. It is located in chesterton nearby for visitation purposes.
Such a joy to be with come to Front Line!!! Everyone is SO nice and helpful. Group is ALWAYS interesting and the one-on-one counciling is amazing. Thank you Front Line! 🥰😍🤩

The receptionist, the hygienist, the doctor's assistant's and Doctor..T....are kind very caring. And they always have smiles they're the best
It all started YEARS ago when I sent an email to Better Life, desperately searching for a provider to get me in right away. It was a Friday. I was refused to be seen at my then current provider for being 15 mins late. I had just had a C Section. I wasn’t even cleared to drive yet. They were so overbooked they refused to squeeze me in. I said, it’s Friday! I won’t be able to get my meds until Monday! They told me, sorry, we can’t help you— and offered to give me “comfort” meds in the form of Imodium. Which we all know is a joke. & they also informed me it would be 2 weeks til my next appointment. NOT Monday. They played with my sobriety as having to go that long without your medication can be devastating to your recovery. Like a true Angel from above, Dr O called me into his office AFTER HOURS ON A FRIDAY and got me my medication RIGHT AWAY. I thought there was no way he’d see my email before the weekend. I had googled other doctors and locations in my area and came across Better Life and his email and though it felt hopeless, I emailed him. Not only did he see it, and quickly, but he took time to get me in when his office was supposed to be closed! I was able to leave his office as a new patient and go get my meds! He saved my sobriety that day and I’m forever grateful to him for that! It is something I will NEVER forget! I was his patient for a few years (and he IS as fabulous as these reviews say) until he got some help on board, NP Laura! Laura is incredible! She has gone above and beyond for me on more than one occasion. Talking with her is like talking to a friend and I look forward to seeing her. She IS a friend, in my eyes. One of the most compassionate addiction specialists in NWI, next to Dr O. This office and everyone in it are in a league of their own and I will NEVER see another doctor! They’re stuck with me for good! If you want to find a place that truly cares and will do whatever they can to help you stay sober… give this place a try. Just don’t all of you come at once HAHA (I joke) BUT one of the best things about this place is the fact that they are not too overloaded with patients. Often times a good place will go downhill when they take on too many people bc the quality of care goes down. This place does NOT overbook and I’m entirely grateful for that. & if they do, heck I don’t ever notice!! My care is never compromised! My appointments are never a headache! Running a few minutes behind will never put me in a bad spot again and as a mother of 5, that alone is priceless because being late happens sometimes! This is the best Addiction Treatment Center in all of NWI with the best people on board. Throughout my sobriety journey (now 10 years) I’ve been to MANY locations. All with the same self serving goals, judgement, and lack of compassion. You will never run into that problem here. You will always be treated like a human being and not like an addict. That alone is worth more than money can buy. Thank you Laura, Dr O, and all the amazing ladies up front that help me every visit! You are ALL rockstars! & angels! 😇

This was an awesome experience. I love being there to help me realize I can learn more coping skills, and I liked all the stuff.
A variety of psychological doctors and therapists. They offer addiction help, including groups and drug testing. On-site pharmacy. They treat both adolescents and adults. Offering many groups for clients wanting to meet new people and learn about their lives or interests. Group homes for those in the community that just need a little more structure.

I recently got discharged from a 4-day stay here. From the minute I was admitted I was told what was going on and questions were most certainly welcomed. I got a tour of the unit and my bedroom and was introduced to my roommate right away. I have a gluten and lactose intolerance, and the staff sat down and asked what I would like to eat and accommodated my needs. The food is great and there's plenty of options. Anytime you need something you can walk over to the nurse's station and they'll be able to help you. My nurses and the techs and the doctor were exceptional! I especially want to thank Katey, the group organizer. She and I painted and sat and talked and she said she really wanted to be a part of my healing journey and found material for our groups to help me out. I enjoyed the relaxed schedule where groups are in the morning and early afternoon and if they don't fit your needs you don't have to attend. I was able to take naps when I was tired or feeling unwell, and one night they let me sleep on the couch because I felt more comfortable doing so. I was also able to take showers at my request and recieve fresh scrubs, socks, and undergarments daily. You can also take in a phone call list and call your friends and family any time you'd like. I can't express how good this place is, and how amazing it is that I got in when they only have 7 beds at the moment. If you're looking for help for you or someone else and the person needing help is 18 or older, please go here! It's worth the drive to get the help you need!

I had a client of my nonprofit, LITE, who needed access to a safe place overnight until we could find him a residential recovery program. He'd completed a detox program but we hadn't secured a "bed" for him at this next stop. Jill was welcoming and helpful and we were able to provide our client a comforting, safe space. He is now working through his recovery at the next stop thanks to this facility!
it's wild to me that this place has such poor reviews, everyone has been so kind to me and i have gotten so much help through them. so thankful i went here!

Porter stark mental health in valparaiso was very kind , Mason, dr. Verma , lou, nick , Steve, we'll the whole staff was super kind and understanding. Very professional and very good with group therapy sessions while I was there.

I made my main review at the Portage location if ya need advice on who to see. But wanted to shout out Micah the psychiatrist who works at this location. I’m a force to be reckon with to put it nicely but he passed the test most don’t for me. I came from having a psychiatrist who knew me for years to having to switch to Micah so I already wasn’t thrilled about it because I get the ick to easily from people. But he has been a breathe of fresh air honestly. He truly listens, not just listens to give a reply and answer, but he understands and comprehends it and that’s important. Especially a gem of a person after having to deal with me at an appointment when I’m in a manic episode cause if you know about those BPD manic episodes then you know how intense you can be. He may have had a lil fear in his eyes seeing me in that moment but he dealt with it with such care and understanding and respect even in the hardest moments. If you get lucky enough to have Micah as your psychiatrist, ask him about the large picture he has framed in his office, he’s got some pretty cool stories to tell that are guaranteed to make ya giggle.
