They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They taught him how to survive and thrive in the woods of North Carolina. They taught him how to express his feelings and needs in a way that is respectful to everyone around him. They helped him learn about himself and brought his self-talk over to the positive side of things. They taught him that "he can do hard things". My family is so grateful to this group of people who run this program. We dropped off an angry, selfish, going-nowhere good kiddo and after a lot of work, missteps, repetition, and encouragement, my son had a fabulous growth experience at TRAILS that will serve him the rest of his life. At that time, I didn’t realize how much of a codependency I had with my son. Even after dropping him off, I tried to stay involved in the day-to-day details which was the very reason I dropped him off in the first place. So i wouldn’t have to stay in the details and could focus on me. My advice is to let the process work. My son is now in a much better place and said this was the best decision he had ever made. I am also in a much better place and the Tuesday night parent calls are a must do for any one that has family in the program. NSR provides more freedom and flexibility in their program that a lot of other places did not. That was a deciding factor when I was initially looking for a place for my son to go. Then I found next step, and my second chance at a better, clean and sober life. I've been in and out of rehabs and detoxes my whole life. But this facility was different. I was welcomed like I was family and I had come home. With the love and compassion, not judged, but given a real chance at a better life. I'm currently living in the sober living house, and unlike a lot of places. The houses are very nice, clean, and up to date homes fully furnished. The staff is excellent, and always available to help with anything I need. Today I feel like a better man, a better husband, a better father, and I owe it all to next step recovery. We have all had exceptional service from all of the care providers. In an atmosphere that can be pretty thankless at times due to each patients needs, wants and desires the staff handles it with professional skills. Cannot say enough about the ER. They are helpful and caring from the moment you walk through the doors until the moment you leave. Our primary care doctors are fantastic given the workload they carry. Even if you have not seen the care provider in a year when you walk in it is just like yesterday you spoke with them. Every place will have it's ups and downs. Good and bad experiences based on the individual needs of others. But, the amount of patients seen here it is amazing how smooth this place operates. For a Veteran it is like going home in a familiar comrade way! Thank you from the heart to each and every caregiver. Always remember if you feel you need just a little more attention contact patient advocacy and watch the wheel start spinning in the right direction. You will be respected, heard, and treated with dignity. You won't be dismissed, all your questions will be answered. Be completely honest so that you can receive the exact care that you need. You could not ask for better accomodations or understanding. The environment is immediately welcoming. Its quiet, peaceful. They have everything you need, you really just need clothing. (Its a bit chilly, bring hoodies and fuzzy socks) There are even laundry facilities. You will be provided with a vape or nicotine patches if you use nicotine products. You may rest as much as you need, the staff will let you sleep through the night, vitals are during the day. You can call your family, except for during group meetings. No visitors, but the stay is short. The counselors and peer support specialists are very honest, open, and eager to help you with your personal journey, without being pushy or making you feel rushed. Whether faith based or evidence based care is right for you, that is your choice. There are options for both approaches! The idea of group meetings was terrifying for me, an introvert, an addict full of shame and guilt. You are not obligated to contribute, that was reassuring. But I was surprised at myself for wanting to contribute and engage. It was a bit sad leaving. While here, I was not just a junkie, just an alcoholic, a lost cause, all of the negative adjectives I used to describe myself. I wasn't the things my family called me. I wasn't an echo of the childhood I lost. I wasn't an empty, lonely vessel on autopilot. I was a person. A human. Im more than my story, but sharing our perspectives and caring for each other felt like being part of a family. A family where you aren't the black sheep. It was almost overwhelming to feel that kind of support and HOPE. Ill be honest; When I came in, i wasn't ready to get help. The timing was just right. But very quickly that changed. They made me want to be better. Not for recognition or pats on the back. Not for attention or brownie points. The Therapist’s that you meet one on one with were terrible until my next to the last day, where I finally met my assigned therapist, and she was great. The physicians, PAs, and the nursing staff were outstanding, which is why they got a four out of five rating overall instead of a three. I injured my foot during activities therapy when I fell, That night I notified to 2 of the tech’s And the Charge nurse. The day after that, I notified the nursing staff( 3 total) Again and nothing was done or said. I even told them that I just wanted it documented at the least. Finally, on the third day there was a different Charge nurse, and I told her and she immediately assessed my foot, took pictures, alerted the doctor and ordered an x-ray. It took almost 36 hours for me to get the x-ray despite the nurse ordering it. STAT. After eight days, I was finally discharged and the swelling in my foot never once improved. The food is disgusting, I lived off of sandwiches and the salad bar for the 12 days that I was there. the cleanliness is terrible, it took over a week for them to clean my bathroom, My room was never vacuumed, and I rarely saw any of the housekeeping staff sweep. This of course it’s not the housekeeping fault, but the fact that they only had two housekeepers for the entire facility while I was there. If you come here and do exactly what you’re supposed to do then the stay will be amazing. By doing what you’re supposed to do I mean going to group on time, taking your meds on time, be friendly to clients and staff, have patience with staff when you’re not getting something as soon as you want it. There’s always more clients than staff so patience is key. Rehab is not a vacation. Rehab is meant to be hard and test you just like real life would. Accept responsibility where you are wrong and take accountability for your actions. We put ourselves in rehab, rehab did not call us. I see these bad reviews on here and it seems like it’s just clients who didn’t get there way and decided to complain on here about it. The staff at Crestview works hard to make sure all clients needs are taken care of but there are a lot of clients who just can’t seemed to be pleased. Don’t lie to staff or they will catch you. My recovery journey started with October Road when I entered their PHP program, which at the time was called the River House. One thing I’ve learned in recovery is that many treatment programs struggle with staffing, and people in early recovery often don’t have positive examples to look up to. That was not my experience here—far from it. I was surrounded by staff who genuinely cared and demonstrated what recovery, professionalism, and service look like every day. The BHTs, clinicians, counselors, and support staff created an environment that was both structured and supportive. Justin, Alex, Chuck, and Gray made a lasting impact on me. They treated us with dignity, held us accountable, and encouraged us to believe that a better life was possible. The community was just as important. The groups were meaningful, the other clients became a source of support, and the overall culture helped me build a strong foundation for recovery.
