There is an abundant need for many different services as more and more people are retiring in this area. This is depleting availability of people offering these service, lengthen wait time and shortening patience of those willing to serve. I had to wait 2 years to find a place that was willing to help me. I am happy to of found ACS, as they were quick to serve and help me find my path. I am now 2.5 months in and feel like I my life has improved. I did not give 5 stars as the facilities are behind, however, understand the limited resources given to services like these to improve service. God and Medmark gave me my life back. If you truly want to feel normal again and get your life back on track then I suggest starting treatment ASAP. I have the best councillor anybody could ever have. Sherry Barnes knows me inside and out! The reason I don't go to a clinic closer to me is because of Sherry. You've got to have a councillor that you trust or your treatment could become jeopardized. So if you are ready to get your life back then I suggest Medmark and Sherry Barnes! I will say that the counselors at this clinic care deeply about each one of the people who walks through the door every day. Needed to guest dose for 3 days and they ended up going above and beyond to do what they could to help us. Extremely thankful for this place. The director is definitely a lot more helpful and nice than the director at our home clinic. Definitely recommending them to anyone that needs them in this area. Every message was answered promptly, every concern was taken seriously, and I always felt heard. What stood out most was how genuinely invested everyone was in Mason. From the treatment team and residential staff to the front desk, every single person took the time to truly know him. He wasn’t just another resident, he was Mason. They learned his personality, celebrated his successes, encouraged him through his struggles, and built relationships that made him feel safe, supported, and valued. Communication throughout his stay was exceptional. The team consistently kept us informed, responded quickly, held appointments as scheduled, and welcomed us during family visits. We always knew they wanted what was best for Mason, and that gave us tremendous peace of mind. Mason spent 64 days at Embark, and the growth we saw in that short time was nothing short of remarkable. But I knew on the first day that he would be safe and valued, just based on how patient they were with him through the onboarding process. Throughout his time there, they saw his good through his pain and anger. They worked with him and me to teach us new ways. The place itself was beautiful and my son spent so much time in his happy place of nature. When things were very hard for him, they communicated with me and never gave up. The residential staff are God-sent people. I loved that turnover was so low, that I really knew all the staff by the end of the process. They were familiar and comforting during family visits. ALL the staff - care coordinator, Jaime, Chris, Jake, the nurses, the therapist team, Nathan, residential coaches - were consistently compassionate, communicative, and provided quality, individualized treatment for my family. I brought my son to Smoky Mountain Lodge from Texas, with very few options and little understanding of what to expect. Although our journey had its challenges and wasn't always a smooth ride, my son came out of the experience in a better place, with greater clarity and a healthier outlook. The staff at Smoky Mountain Lodge genuinely care about their patients, and that made a difference to our family. They also offer a wonderful family support group that provides guidance, encouragement, and a place to ask questions during what can be an incredibly overwhelming and emotional time. Having that support helped us navigate the unknown and better understand how to support our son. My biggest concern was communication. At times, responses were slower than I would have liked, which was difficult as a parent so far away from my child. However, I also recognize that the staff are caring for many patients and have a tremendous responsibility. Whenever I was able to connect with a staff member, they were courteous, compassionate, and genuinely tried to answer my questions and provide the information I needed. One important piece of advice for other parents: Make sure you have the appropriate Releases of Information (ROIs) completed and in place as early as possible. These are essential for allowing staff to communicate with you about your loved one and provide updates, within the scope of the authorizations. Overall, I am grateful for the care my son received and for the support our family was given during such a difficult chapter of our lives. If you are a parent facing this unfamiliar and often frightening journey, know that you are not alone. I just want to say this is a great facility for detoxing and peer support. But, when I came here I was not able to receive the medication I needed when I found the one that worked. I told my doctor that the adavan the nurses were giving me worked and that I was calm and aware of my surroundings. He said to take lithium and I said No because I have been on so many drugs in the past and they did not work, that because I knew the adavan worked to give me that. I started arguing with him and then I left without any medication except for the one pill that actually worked the first night I got there. So now it's been 5 months and I still have the same underlying problems; paranoia, anxiety, negative energy, hate, anger, and pessimism. I just want the nurses and health aides to know they are very good people and do a good job and the psychiatrist is a big fat nimrod with a paper shredder degree. Thank you. Hope Johnston 7 years ago

The part I liked most about it was the personal and accessible level staff and residents communicate . My comfort level was through the roof ,which in return allowed me to thrive in my recovery . I don't see a better place available for a person to get the tools to get sober and remain sober. We do not have many resources in Cleveland for mental help so they are under staffed and no a big facility. I agree with some of the comments about some of the workers but I have met also some of the most amazing people iv ever met with special hearts! Taking care of my mental was a big step this year for me. Hiwassee made me feel safe to do so and my care managers and therapist are god sent. And I don’t know if yall are complaining about the two ladies up front now but they are always so sweet and caring and try finding a plan if I need help. As far as resources at the end of every meeting I have they ask if I need any and if I need help with living somewhere. Dont let the negative comments bring you down! I’m looking forward to my first therapy appointment today. I have a good gut feeling about it. First appointment was really easy to make, the second one was stranger - the appointment setter was quiet for minutes at a time without any explanation. I just called as a first time patient attempting to make an appointment, and after having the worst experiences at so many separate places, had almost given up hope... I had pretty poor expectations after seing the stars on google, but I called today, the Athens number, and transferred to someone for first appointments. I had the best and most hopeful experience in trying to get help my entire adult life. I talked to them for 30 minutes, and explained way more than they asked or I should have, but they just stayed so patient and kind.
