| Back2Basics Outdoor Adventure Therapy is a drug and alcohol rehab in Flagstaff, Arizona. This facility offers residential addiction treatment and sober living for adult men aged 18 through 35. This Back2Basics residential program provides a combination of counseling, addiction treatment, and outdoor recreation activities. Residents engage in hands- | Treatments Programs Payment Options | As a nurse and professional in the behavioral health field, I have been deeply impressed by the work being done at Back 2 Basics. The program provides young men with a rare combination of opportunities—healing, practical life skills, and the stability that is often missing in their lives.
What stands out most is the balance between clinical care and real-world development. Back 2 Basics doesn’t just focus on treatment—it empowers clients to learn accountability, independence, and the skills they’ll need to succeed long after they leave the program. Watching men grow in confidence as they take ownership of their recovery and build a foundation for the future is incredibly inspiring.
For families and professionals alike, it’s reassuring to know there is a program that treats people with dignity, structure, and compassion. Back 2 Basics is giving young men more than recovery—it’s giving them the tools and support to rebuild their lives. Sonia Powazek 1 month ago As someone who works daily with men struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders, I refer clients to Back2Basics with full confidence. This program isn’t just another treatment center—it’s a transformational environment rooted in real clinical expertise, integrity, and real-life skill building.
From the start, Back2Basics impresses with its balance of evidence-based clinical care and holistic healing. Their residential program combines individual therapy, group work, dual diagnosis support, and trauma-informed care—all delivered by a deeply capable team led by seasoned clinical leadership. Their emphasis on authentic, non-institutional connection ensures clients feel seen and heard.
One of the most unique strengths of Back2Basics is their integration of outdoor adventure and real-world life skills—hiking, backpacking, cooking, budgeting, vocational guidance. These components aren’t optional add-ons; they are central to helping young men not just stay sober but build resilience, confidence, and self-reliance.
Family involvement is another area where Back2Basics excels. As a referrer, I’ve seen how keeping loved ones educated, engaged, and part of the recovery journey reduces anxiety for everyone involved, helps with accountability, and contributes to sustained outcomes.
Finally, the commitment to continuity—transitioning into sober living, aftercare, relapse prevention—is vital. Too many programs fall off at discharge; Back2Basics makes sure the gains made during treatment translate into daily life.
In short: as a professional who refers clients, I consider Back2Basics to be a top choice for young men who need more than just detox or short-term support. They deliver a full rehabilitation journey designed for lasting change. 5 stars without hesitation. Chris Kirby 1 month ago I truly believe Back 2 Basics saved my son’s life. But I also believe the key is that they have to want it—the desire for change has to come from within. Once our son said he was ready, we didn’t hesitate. Within 24 hours, we flew cross-country to Back 2 Basics, inspired by another young man we knew who had found great success through the program.
From the moment we arrived, the staff and counseling team were exceptional. Bethanie, in particular, was phenomenal. She didn’t just understand our son—she understood our entire family dynamic. Her approach is uniquely effective; she guides these young men in a way that empowers them to reach their own conclusions and make their own choices.
One of the most impactful aspects of the program was the weekend hiking and camping trips. These adventures helped redirect that adrenaline rush in a healthy, constructive way. It was more than just therapy—it was a reset.
Back 2 Basics didn’t just give our son his life back. They gave our entire family a second chance. Addiction affects everyone, and this program addresses that truth head-on. We are forever grateful. Dee DeeDee 1 month ago

I have learned so much about balancing and detoxing my system, and I have been able to use what I’ve learned to help my family as well. The grounds are breathtaking, and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They have a hands on approach, and genuinely want to help people. Lindsey Banghart 6 months ago I was a patient at ATMC for 60 days in 2024. In the months prior to my stay there I was battling a serious psychosis, in and out of 4 different behavioral hospitals in a matter of 4 months. The medications and mistreatment were brutal and my family thought I was long gone. My mom found ATMC online and although I was reluctant to go there at first, it truly saved my life.
I had been been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar for 7 years, I had been prescribed heavy doses of antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, and antidepressants throughout my young adult life. It wasn't working for me, my quality of life was at its lowest.
I spent my birthday and Christmas at ATMC, and I've never felt more at home away from home. The staff is genuine, hard-working, knowledgeable, relatable, and above all, they are empathetic. They make sure that everyone feels included, heard, and safe. Instead of treating the symptoms, they find a way to treat the source.
I can proudly say that I've been off any and all psych medications for a full year now. Instead of giving my autonomy up to a doctor or a pill, I finally have it for myself. And I owe the world to my family, friends, and those at ATMC for that. Ashley Cantrelle 7 months ago | 6 6 |

The new DR. Sean is a major change from the previous DR that was there. Sean understands not everything is black and white and actually listens to you when you tell him like hey this isn't working can we try something else's, on top of actually listening to your concerns about medication he actually cares about your recovery as much as you do, I have not had one DR. Actually try to help when I said I want to be done with MAT meds, the last DR'S would basically set you up for failure so you will have to come back and be stuck. I am now on a weekly therapy and different meds, when I asked them to check in after I start the meds they scheduled weekly appointments.

It’s time to give praise where praise is due.
Staff by name:
Nate - RN this was one of the better nurses and he worked the night shift, there were several points when I was at an all-time low, especially at night. Nate took the time to sit down with me and make sure that I was OK every single time. He cares about his job and his patients and it clearly showed.
Zack - this gentleman worked in the CSU, he had an incredible personality and he is the gentleman that you would be working with at night if you were doing intake. Me and him had conversation for hours about working out, family, religion. as far as I understood it, he had achieved employee of the month of the month prior and there’s a very big reason. Zack was a massive part of being able to talk to me while my anxiety was so high. This gentleman deserves nothing but praise and probably a raise.
Nicole - she was a floor tech that also works nights, she’s a good worker and does what she needs to. She just seems to be very quiet and somewhat antisocial so she was not a good person to talk to however, you could see her work ethic and how she contributed to the facility.
Eric or Airwik - again, this is a floor tech. This gentleman deserves nothing but praise. He worked nights and days. He was very easy to talk too, me and him talked about his background for his native descent and we spoke about music. We had good conversation which is what is required for a lot of these patients.
Denise - Just awesome, thank you for being a support
Kody - this is a daytime floor tech, again sat down with me had excellent conversations and he ended up playing Uno with all of us patients several times over. He had an ability to connect with his patients and make him feel like a familiar friend. Kody deserves some of the highest praise as he gets somewhat intimate with his clients.
Andrea - registered nurse, this girl is a powerhouse of a woman. Her and I shared the same religious background and on the day of my release she did nothing but tell me the success that she saw for me. You can also tell that she goes to the gym; shared. She’s high energy and is very on the ball she had a way of sharing her positive energy which shared hope she was a significant part of my discharge her and I spoke for probably 30 minutes before I got discharged. She is intense a little bit loud, but absolutely a wonderful soul.
Julie - fantastic human being.
Austin - this gentleman is a part of CSU again the intake portion. Him and I spoke the first night for probably two hours when I was first admitted. Again, we spoke about religion general concepts, and Austin is an absolute nerd. He reads books every single day and he has card games and things like that. One thing that stuck out about Austin is that he is extremely intelligent and he would love to talk to you about almost anything. Me and him mostly spoke about God.
Bonnie - Bonnie was the cleaning lady over in the CSU unit. I believe she used to be a police officer. She’s a very intimidating woman, but she’s also extremely sweet if you’re just not a jerk. Around when I first got there in the CSU she showed me where the snacks and drinks were treated me like a human being.
Dave - this is another gentleman from the CSU, he’s usually quiet at first as he feels you out and what your temperament is but again after he knows that you’re not something that is a threat he’ll open up to you. Another gentleman that is highly intelligent.
Lastly
Robert - RN my first interaction with Robert was when I needed something from the nurses. When I tried to get his attention, he looked at me and shook his head and then look away from me, which was very dehumanizing. After that when he left the nurses cage, I tried to get his attention and he ignored me three times. This guy is terrible and as far as I understand it, most of the staff doesn’t even like him. Jacee Fosholt 4 months ago This place changed my life and quite possibly saved it as well. All the nurses were wonderful and in particular Kerry, Nate, Haven, Shavon, Heather, and Zac. The techs were amazing including Richard 1, Jay, Richard 2, Steph, Cody. I'm sure there are others I interacted with that were great as well that I'm forgetting. Both psych NPs were attentive and thorough and really cared! Both social workers Kenzie and Kat are some of the best people on this planet. They brought together the whole plan for me. Everyone on staff truly care about all of us patients and were extremely professional, efficient, and attentive. This place is a staple and much needed on the mountain, they serve our community in amazing ways. Thank you to everyone! Changepoint changed my life and will change yours too! Tommy G. 4 months ago I finally got to see my husband today. After 2 days. I though his was at a different facility. She is struggling with her ability to stand without falling and she has other mental issues that are starting to develop. Last time we were at Verde Valley Medical they misdiagnosed my wife with drug abuse instead of a very clear mental confusion situation. My wife is 72 years old and has never taken drugs in her life. Many hospitals are uneducated about kratom.
This visit was very nice! Everybody had smiles on their faces and we're dressed very neatly. The main treating doctor was dressed very nicely and was very professional. Between everybody there, they made the visit a pleasant experience for a non pleasant experience if you know what I mean. Thank you Verde Valley Medical for treating us like patients instead of drug abusers. That will always go a long ways in my book.
BTW...we are starting to find that my wife has very serious neurological issues associated with the fall she had about a year and a half ago. Jimjim jim 3 weeks ago On July 26, 2025 I arrived at the Verde Valley Medical Center around 3 PM. Within 10 minutes I was ushered into their evaluation area where my vitals and an x-ray was taken. Immediately afterwards I was placed in a nicely appointed room where the nursing team made me very comfortable with warm towels and pain meds since I was shaking uncontrollably. This was the beginning of a top-notch emergency gallbladder removal experience. After a ultrasound & in less than 3 hours Dr. Nagaraj advised me the I needed surgery to remove my gall bladder which took place the next day. Next day the surgical nurse prepped me & assured me that Drs. Faulkner & Nagaraj would be the ones he would want to do his surgery. Afterwords the recovery room team as well as the team that handled my comfort that night were superb. Each shift’s caretakers worked together as a team whose main focus was my comfort and speedy recovery. One super efficient nurse from Virginia helped with the nausea and medications I needed to take. Another sweet nursing student worked tirelessly all night helping me to try & find a restful
position. And, a kind & caring nurse’s aide from Minnesota brought humor to my otherwise awkward hospital gown situation. All in all the medical team that cared for me was the best. We drove an extra 30 minutes from Munds Park to Cottonwood as we realized that I’d wait for hours in Flagstaff’s ER. Best decision ever!
Ashley Cantrelle 7 months ago
| Prescott Valley, Arizona | Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona is a residential rehab for teen girls. Specifically, it’s for girls ages 12-17 who are struggling with drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and other behavioral health issues. The program uses something called the Sanctuary Model. It’s a model of treatment that is based on trauma | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I was sent here at age 16 from another treatment facility. My experience wasn't too bad at all. They supplied me with the necessary items upon my arrival and a color coded uniform so others understood I was new. Different colors came with different treatment. I made some decent friends and unfortunately lost touch with them. Honestly, this place isn't for kids who just simply have bad attitudes, this place is for kids who don't know when to stop acting out and only get worse over time. I've met some girls here who had made scarier choices than me. From my experience the staff only confronted or restrained those who continued giving them attitude or tried to fight them or other girls. I personally wouldn't consider it torture, but things could have drastically changed since I've been there. They had a good amount of activities to keep every one busy and allowed the girls to make a small amount of money by working in the kitchen or other small duties. The group homes they have weren't bad at all either unless, again, you acted out massively. This place taught me that life is what you make of it and that actions will have consequences. Not just for you, but others around you as well. Chenise Davis 6 months ago I don’t remember it being like any of these reviews.
I saw things I never would’ve seen if I had not been placed there. The town of Jerome, the copper mines, we saw the Grand Canyon at least 6 times when I was there. The staff Ms. Burgess taught me to crochet. When I started to learn anll the other girls were interested and did as well. All the other staff members were like hippies, not like anything I had experienced in Cincinnati Ohio at treatment centers. So, nice. I didn’t like the psychiatrist much but in all it was an adventure there. I now have two companies. Lydia’s Lawncare and Empowered Lady Llc here in Cincinnati Ohio. Things may have changed since I was there but I don’t have bad memories of this facility. Lydia Honnaker 8 months ago This place has been a great caring healing place for our daughter. This place does not do the 9-5 bit, they work with your schedule and offer unconventional hours to better serve clients.
