Laporte, IN | Swanson Center in LaPorte, Indiana, offers outpatient mental health and substance use treatment services for children, adolescents and adults. Their mental health professionals are licensed and accredited. They’re also certified and licensed by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions. They accept most PPO and HMO insurance plans, and | Treatments Programs Payment Options | So sad to be updating this review because this place turned so bad. I love the staff and loved it BUT about a month or 2 ago they got a new doctor and she's so bad! Messing with so many clients meds and lying to clients faces and so so much more! It's sad when she first started my councler even warned me how bad she is :( I don't recommend this place until they get a new good doctor!

My girlfriend and I battle opiate addiction and have went to the victory clinic in south bend (where we're from)to try getting off the opiates but left there more frustrated and discouraged than before. Now we go to Swanson and it's amazing. We are understood, heard, and not judged. People there believe in us and are willing to do anything to see us succeed
So far we love it.

I went to the swanson center afraid I was going to get a doctor who wasn't going to listen to me, just prescribe pills, and send me on my way. BUT no, that is not what I got. I got a nice lady named Gloria, who , like me, is a dog lover and encouraged me to bring my dog in next appointment. I am excited to go back with my dog, not only because I can bring my dog with me, but because I liked her energy and responsive care to my woes and sorrows. Made me feel comfortable and at ease.

Chesterton, IN | Parkdale is a premier substance abuse facility offering personalized treatment in Chesterton, Indiana. They cater to the unique addiction issues faced by professionals. They offer withdrawal management services and convenient outpatient programs for those who need more flexibility to continue regular activities while getting treatment. Although th | Treatments Programs Payment Options | After completing inpatient rehabilitation, I transitioned into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Parkdale Center and I can say with my whole heart that it was one of the most life-changing and soul-healing experiences I’ve ever had. Parkdale didn’t just help me continue my recovery, they helped me to continue to find myself again. They believed in me, held space for my pain, and gave me the tools and encouragement to continue to rise stronger than I ever thought possible.
From the leadership to the support staff, everyone at Parkdale exudes compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to healing. But what makes Parkdale truly exceptional are people like Rigo and Claudia. They treated me not like a number or a case, but like family. There was zero judgment, only humility, kindness, and an unwavering belief in my potential. Rigo felt like a steady big brother, firm when needed, but always full of heart. Claudia radiates warmth and made me feel safe, seen, and cared for in a way that felt almost sacred. These two, and so many others at Parkdale (like Dr. Chris, Denise, Ty, David) restored my faith in people and reminded me that recovery is possible when you’re surrounded by those who genuinely care.
Parkdale is the best at what they do because they combine clinical excellence with human connection. Their program isn’t just about sobriety, it’s about rebuilding your life with dignity, strength, and purpose. If someone I love ever needed help, Parkdale is the place I would trust.

My physician is wonderful! But I cannot reach the office staff. Either nobody answers or I leave a message and nobody calls back. I’m not sure how you can promote mental health if your patients can’t schedule their appts.! I see the reviews and I’m concerned. For the sake of your patients and quality care, please get your office staff trained and your center organized.

Very unprofessional. Been receiving "help" from Kenneth Young for nearly 5 years and I've only gotten more mentally and physically ill after they moved me into a very mentally abusive town on a section 8 voucher and fail to be professional about their work. I am always saying goodbye to my counselors faster than I feel I should be. I constantly have counselors go absent and be completely taken off my schedule. I felt peer pressure to take medicine against my will and when I did try to take it they constantly forgot the correct dosage of meds or they would completely forget my meds which is extremely dangerous. I gave up on the medicine due to their lack of responsibility and the fact that meds refuse to work on me since age 11. I feel like some of the counselors make me feel pressured to give them materialistic items by the way they talk to me when I get something. I feel like there is a lack of attention span and empathy from my counselors. I have had counselors argue with me over nothing, sending me into an explosive crisis. I feel like sometimes the counselors seem to subtly express romantic feelings for me and it makes me uncomfortable even tho I never say anything. After my experience, I've come to a conclusion that nobody in this world will ever be professional or empathetic enough to properly help me. They did help with housing even tho I'm about to lose it because they moved me in a dangerous town where everyone abuses me and then management discriminates against me and my neighbors lie about me and then they take away my lease for fun and I can't afford the security deposit to move to a new place, leaving me homeless for the rest of my life in a dangerous town. Other than that they are decent at getting me to food pantries and appointments if they don't cancel on me and make me wait longer. Their approach is extremely unprofessional and dangerous when it comes to therapy, medication and housing. Kenneth Young is extremely unreliable but it is all I have and it's depressing. Good luck.

Kouts, IN | Midwest Center for Youth and Families in Valparaiso is a residential facility that provides mental health and substance disorder treatment for adolescents. The evidence based therapies that are used at this facility include dialectical behavioral therapy and recreational therapy. Recovery Support For Military Dependents One program that stands out | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I went here when i was 13. I am 24 now. I met some great people who had their issues but deep down they helped me grow into who i am now, they taught me very good skills that i still use today like DEARMAN. They let us get school work done and have fun in gym class. They were wonderful with issues and adressed them appropriately. I am so happy to finally leave a good review after all these years. This wasnt the place i wanted to be when i was 13 cutting myself being suicidal, but they helped me grow into who i am today, i was only there for a month because of insurance reasons. But they had great ling term care. My only complaint is that they could upgrade the food and milk, the milk tended to be spoiled most days back then, but it may be completely different now, i wish the staff and everyone who knew me the best of luck

This program is extremely adaptable, it is up to the residents to help create the environment they need to grow in.
I was at SSA for nearly four months, and there I (as well as my family) have learned absolutely the most therapeutically there compared to anywhere else. Any other 1:1 therapist, any other group therapy, inpatient, IOP, rehab, anything. This program fully immerses you inside of a place of DBT and support. There are 100% difficult times here, as there are anywhere, and at the same time, there are constantly tools provided to assist with these times.
You hear horror stories of residentials locking adolescents in their rooms, starving them, refusing to engage or provide helpful tools to them, restraining unnecessarily, using them to clean/as tools etc- but this is NOT one of those places.
This place is SAFE. This means the necessities. AND THEN THEY HAVE MORE.
Like I said, this program is very adaptable. Every group of adolescents that comes in has a say in the adjustment of the growing experience here. This ranges from just voicing your opinion in general, to leveling up and becoming a member of what they call resident council. Resident council makes changes to how the floor is run with the staff and helps teach the skills.
This was something I commonly did. I made changes on the unit for my group, I lead informational groups and games all the time.
There are resident lead groups, BHW groups, therapy groups, nursing groups, pet and equine therapy- and more.
Here you are allowed to have fun, to engage and live and progress, but this means working the program. You can't hide things here, fake your way through, stay blunted. You will not have a good experience here if you can't work the program. And that will be part of it for a lot of people, having to go here to learn HOW TO open themselves up and be part of the program. It does take time to regulate to it, but being willing is important. At some point.
A lot of these other reviews are pulling the negatives from the positives. This is likely the safest place in a several state radius for any adolescent. There are caring staff here, someone your child WILL click with and find as their safe person, and it will be okay for them. It has been extremely helpful and educational for me, and my family.
Brendon, the shift coordinator for the South Shore unit, is extremely well educated and skillful. He's been working in mental health for 10+ years. He is trained very thoroughly in DBT- and more areas of therapy. Everyone that comes here will always remember him, there's no doubt about that. He leaves an educational mark on just about anyone. He will consistently lead BHW groups, teaching residents and even staff about useful DBT skills, takes residents to equine therapy, he leads the resident council activities, and more.
I frequently call back onto the unit floor and talk to him, as well as other staff members. They are consistently there for old and new residents.
Cloe Carda, a therapist here, is THE MOST wise, well-spoken, helpful, skillful, and caring person I have met. She has been solely the most supportive person there to me and many others. She is always willing to take on every situation she is faced with, and she is more than prepared to do so. I've never been more impressed with any mental health professional. I actually miss her each day, and I'm more than thankful I met her and the Midwest team.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to this rehab center and its staff. No, it’s not a luxury retreat or a spa-like setting—but neither is prison, or worse, the morgue. This place is about recovery, not comfort, and I believe they are doing exactly what they’re meant to do: helping people get their lives back.
The staff was kind, dedicated, and truly cared. My son's father recently completed treatment here, and while he shared that it was incredibly tough—physically, emotionally, and mentally—he also said it was nothing compared to the pain of being out on the streets, lost in his addiction. Recovery isn’t supposed to be easy. If it were, addiction wouldn’t be so hard to beat.
I’ve seen some reviews criticizing the center for not giving constant updates to family members. I get it—when someone we love is in pain, we want answers, we want involvement, we want to help. But part of the healing process means letting go of that need to control. We didn't have control when our loved ones were in active addiction, and recovery is no different. The program is designed to build independence, accountability, and internal strength. Constant calls, questions, and attempts to interfere, even with good intentions, can undermine that.
Trust the process. Let the professionals do their job. It’s not always comfortable—but neither is addiction. Discomfort is part of growth, and growth is what this place is all about.
If you're looking for somewhere that offers real recovery—not coddling, but healing—this is it. Let them work, and give your loved one the space to fight for their own life.

I’m so, so, so grateful for what Sacred Heart did for me. Shout out to staff Leslie, Trish, Jessica, Tom, Johnny, Margaret, Joe and Tom#2, Elizabeth, nurses Jane and Jim.. the therapists are amazing (all of them except Maria, she’s awful) the peer recovery coaches are amazing, love the nursing staff, y’all took good care of us. Sometimes there were communication issues but for the most part it was a nurturing, supportive environment. There were a few staff members who made my stay special. Facilitators Stephanie, Dr. Steph and Heather as well as Client Care Coordinator Constance were extremely helpful. They were a great resource and a wealth of information. Let me start by saying as a certified Emergency/Critical Care Technician with over 22 years experience working in level 1 Trauma Centers and teaching facilities to small rural critical access hospitals, this facility gave me some of the best patient care I have ever received in an emergency department. Being brand new to the city of Chicago and not knowing the area or anything about the city. Earlier this afternoon I started having severe RUQ Abdominal Pain which I initially thought and felt like what could be a kidney stone which I also have a history of. As the afternoon went on my pain and nausea worsened to the point that I had two episodes of bloody coffee ground emesis. With currently being on anticoagulants (blood thinners) for A-fib and PE’s (blood clots in my lungs), and a previous history of GI Bleeds I knew I needed to go to the ER. I proceeded to Jackson Park Hospital & Medical Center because it was the closest hospital to my friends house where I’m currently staying. Upon entering the Emergency Department I was greeted by a registration lady, once registered I waited maybe 10 minutes before a very kind and pleasant nurse who name I can’t remember she brought me back to the triage area got my vitals and medical history. During triage I was hypertensive and tachycardic. The triage nurse immediately proceeded to take me to ER bed 7, within 5 minutes Dr. Evan Gibson-O’Grady MD (ER Attending Physician) was at my bedside, Dr. Gibson-O’Grady proceeded to use the ultrasound machine to gain IV access for me himself, and drawing my labs himself. At this same time Cyril RN who was both my primary nurse and the charge nurse was getting me on the monitor and getting medications for pain and nausea to make me as comfortable as possible. Again in my experience tonight the entire Emergency Department staff did an exceptional job, and far exceeded my expectations!
Too often and more times then not people are super quick to complain and post negative. But the fact that this is as a smaller community hospital and only an eight bed emergency department with 3 RNs and 1 physician my experience was absolutely wonderful! The entire staff were great! But I have to especially recognize and say a most sincere THANK YOU to my primary ER nurse Cyril RN (who was also charge) and finally
Dr. Evan Gibson-O’Grady MD, FACEP who was actively involved in my care, but took time to listen and genuinely cared and tried to make me as comfortable as possible and coordinate was the best course of action considering my complex medical history and the fact that I’m a DNR and on Palliative Care. Dr. Evan Gibson-O’Grady MD is an absolute blessing and sincerely has the patients best interests at heart and goes above and beyond to advocate for his patients!
Again Thank You!

I take the time to state this because my previous experiences (that were over 20 years ago) with Jackson Park Hospital Emergency Services were horrible!!! I had certain people inaccurately communicate information on my behalf. The people inaccurately communicated information when I was a minor. The information was documented as information I communicated. I have previously experienced side effects from the medication. The side effects from the medication are not documented as side effects. I have also experienced side effects from over the counter medication. There is video surveillance footage of me communicating the side effects I experienced. The video surveillance footage is supposed to prove the reactions to the medication were not side effects. I do not exhibit certain mental health concerns without taking medication that causes a reaction. I informed the company about several things that were occurring. I was expected to give the same information I previously communicated. I chose to check if they documented the information I gave. I pretended like I did not know the answers to the questions they were asking me. The psychiatry appointment was a brief appointment. I have received several inaccurate diagnoses throughout the years. The documentation is inconsistent and inaccurate documentation. The documentation they accumulated throughout the years is unreliable. The documentation from four different locations contains several differences. The psychiatrist did prescribe me a medication. I experienced multiple side effects from the medication I was given.
No visual hallucinations
No auditory hallucinations
No paranoia
Not out of touch with reality
