I spent 5 months here in the dead of winter. The staffing were marvelous and far ahead of any rehab center anywhere, thats my opinion. The entire staff always went above and beyond. Thanks to a Sapper for Director and Hall of Famer and great Psychologist I improved my life without measure. I should have thanked you long ago. You got the full process. My experience attending treatment at this facility is what saved my life. I was welcomed judgement free from day one and was treated with the upmost care for my entire stay. The staff only saw me for my potential instead of seeing me only for my past mistakes. I was given individualized care which challenged me to grow and take accountability for my past actions. Over my 45 day stay, I worked closely with all the staff and was provided with excellent support and education on my disease. They loved me until I was able to love my self. Thanks to the hardworking and supportive staff at Phoenix House I now have 4.5 years clean. I have been working as a Recovery Coach for the past 3 years and have just passed the exam to become a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. The likelihood of me being where I am at today would be shockingly low, if not zero, if not for my time spent at Phoenix House.

On August 26 I came to the Bcmh emergency room having the worst pain from a known kidney stone that decided to move and block my kidney.., I was greeted by the Er nurse Sandy Peltola who started my IV and called the Er doctor Evan Loukusa … I got meds to make me comfortable and had a ct scan performed by the CT tech Michelle Maes ..,, I was treated so wonderfully by all of them… Dr Zach Meyer took over my cause and got the reports and got me transferred to another hospital for surgery.., Dr Meyer was so compassionate and seeing how much pain I was in that him and Sandy kept on top of my pain…I later found out it was really busy in the ER but I had no clue… if I called for help they were right there for me!!! Thank you BCMH for taking such good care of me and getting me transferred so quick when they thought I’d be in the er for 3 to 4 days,,,

I came from a bigger city with lots of choices for mental health care. This is by far the best care I have ever received. You get a caseworker to help you with literally anything. The Doctor is willing to work with you and allows you to take a part in your care. The therapist that I have is a trauma expert. I am so thankful for this place.

I've spent a lot of time there. Staff is awesome. So respectful. The doctors are outstanding. Especially my podiatrist and most importantly my GI doctor D. The doctors, nurses, and staff at UP Health System Marquette Hospital Emergency Department made incredible decisions, providing stellar Emergency Medical treatment. It’s stressful to go to a doctor and be told to report to the Emergency Department immediately. However, the friendly staff made me feel safe and assured that I’d receive the best care. My son just recently went to Koinonia in Rhinelander. For him, let's just say when he left he cried & was scared to leave there. This is saying a whole lot!! It was structured, a great counselor, & they kept them busy with lots of group sessions. He needed this. I suggest a Sober living housing after this, which my son refused cuz he wanted to work. The only problem I have with this Rehab is that it's only 30 days, u can't stay any longer. My son said he asked & it's 800$'s a day there after that even insurance won't cover. This just isn't right. Well, unless u are Native American & the tribe pays. But others don't have this type of money & so badly need way longer to recover. Sadly, I have my doubts for my son. He did great there but it should have been waayy longer for him. It breaks my heart when he was so very close.

Truly a great place and anyone who says otherwise simply did not truly try and trust the program. Thanks to the staff and the environment I learned so much skills when it came to dealing with others, negative emotions, cravings and overall life in general not to mention they have helped me become 107 days sober and I plan to continue this journey. this place helped me reach a new high in my life. all of the staff there were more than amazing towards us and always tried their hardest to help us be successful and happy. i was lucky to find them when i needed help the most. i’ll reach two years sober in 2 months and if i wouldn’t have went there, i strongly believe i wouldn’t be alive today. they will push you to be the best version of yourself you can be!! the only reason i give it a 4/5 is because the food was terrible besides when larissa would cook for us. garrett and rachel will always hold a special place in my heart.

I want this to be read as a 5-star review with a challenge for improvement. Tamarack Health is vital for Ashland—especially with Northland College now closed, this facility is one of the last anchors for growth in our region.
My Experience
I spent 48 hours here, saw three doctors, and walked away with three slightly different explanations of my condition. That inconsistency is concerning.
At one point, I was told I could eat, but my own research suggested otherwise. When I insisted I shouldn’t, a doctor eventually had to look it up online. The next person who used the computer revealed the Johns Hopkins page she had left open. For anyone healing a perforated colon—yes, you do not eat, not even drink water. That moment taught me: always do your own research.
I was also discharged without seeing a doctor. The last physician I spoke to said she wanted to consult the surgery team. Three hours later, a nurse simply told me, “If you can keep broth down, you’re good.” That was it—no chance to talk to a doctor about my new, life-changing condition.
What Worked
The nursing staff were all kind, attentive, and professional. The facility itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The people here clearly care.
What’s Missing
What’s missing is the sense of a team. Healthcare works best when patients feel their caregivers are communicating—not just walking in one at a time to read a chart. What if every shift started with a “huddle” where the team aligned on patient care, like athletes before a game? What if patients felt that same spirit of unity when someone walked into the room?
Even a simple improvement—a live group chat among care providers, a more fluid hand-off, or visible collaboration—could shift the entire experience. Patients don’t just need comfort; they need confidence that their caregivers are speaking with one voice.
My Hope
Tamarack Health can rise higher and be a leader in Ashland’s future. All it would take is breaking down the bureaucracy and building up the teamwork. I believe this facility, with its people and potential, could become a shining example of healthcare done right—not just for Ashland, but for rural communities everywhere.

Starting off with this review that all meals prepared at AMC are hand prepared and cooked by the Chef and his team of Cooks, All foods are homemade and not one meal is repeated making this hospitals food gourmet and lovable, Monday-Friday 11am-6pm The Hospital Chef is tirelessly preparing good food for families and visitors and patients of AMC On the weekends Patients get to have what they want by contacting the kitchen staff and ordering what is good, The menu is widespread with healthy lunches dinners and desserts. Whatever catches your eye, its sure to be good. This Volunteer has had several meals at AMC and am impressed with the inevitable meals prepared. I would continue to dine whilst volunteering at AMC no matter what. Each meal is Appropriately priced so are the Refreshments. Theres even fruit, sandwiches and wraps available in case you don’t want the main course. Even tho the kitchen dining room is closed after lunch you can still order what you want (patient).

The doctors are withdrawn into a fantasy of how to make appeals to courts and testify the best they can about all the reason's there is a problem. You're not very likely to be committed per se, but you'll most likely need to agree to conditions in order to be released from the hospital. When the first ordeal is over with, the care is much better if you're required to stay a bit longer in the hospital before they stabilize you. Also remember there has never been a 5-star inpatient unit. The U.S. is swamped with mental health needs and are short staffed to meet the demands. Good Job Aspirus.

I have the best Therapist in the world. The front desk agents are always kind and I haven't had a bad experience here. I firmly belive without their help getting through post partum I would not have made it. I am forever thankful.

They were very helpful. Most places have a long or inaccessible waiting list for mental healthcare. They were able to intake me within about 2 weeks compared to the 6 months to a year of private practices.
I followed through with my appointments and they really did help me out, informing me of resources available and practitioners that took notes for providing personalized care.
I had legitimately good experiences with all staff I interacted with while being a patient there.
