I spent 5 months here in the dead of winter. The staffing were marvelous and far ahead of any rehab center anywhere, thats my opinion. The entire staff always went above and beyond. Thanks to a Sapper for Director and Hall of Famer and great Psychologist I improved my life without measure. I should have thanked you long ago. You got the full process. My experience attending treatment at this facility is what saved my life. I was welcomed judgement free from day one and was treated with the upmost care for my entire stay. The staff only saw me for my potential instead of seeing me only for my past mistakes. I was given individualized care which challenged me to grow and take accountability for my past actions. Over my 45 day stay, I worked closely with all the staff and was provided with excellent support and education on my disease. They loved me until I was able to love my self. Thanks to the hardworking and supportive staff at Phoenix House I now have 4.5 years clean. I have been working as a Recovery Coach for the past 3 years and have just passed the exam to become a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. The likelihood of me being where I am at today would be shockingly low, if not zero, if not for my time spent at Phoenix House.

I came from a bigger city with lots of choices for mental health care. This is by far the best care I have ever received. You get a caseworker to help you with literally anything. The Doctor is willing to work with you and allows you to take a part in your care. The therapist that I have is a trauma expert. I am so thankful for this place.

My son just recently went to Koinonia in Rhinelander. For him, let's just say when he left he cried & was scared to leave there. This is saying a whole lot!! It was structured, a great counselor, & they kept them busy with lots of group sessions. He needed this. I suggest a Sober living housing after this, which my son refused cuz he wanted to work. The only problem I have with this Rehab is that it's only 30 days, u can't stay any longer. My son said he asked & it's 800$'s a day there after that even insurance won't cover. This just isn't right. Well, unless u are Native American & the tribe pays. But others don't have this type of money & so badly need way longer to recover. Sadly, I have my doubts for my son. He did great there but it should have been waayy longer for him. It breaks my heart when he was so very close.

Huge disappointment— I thought it was a scam by their lack of professionalism. I had my first (and only) meeting with Diane over the phone. She was half an hour late and did not introduce herself which I thought was strange. Also she never showed her face on the video call so that was very off putting for me. She didn’t ask me any questions about myself or tell me anything about her…instead she tried starting the conversation with, “so do you want to talk about your mom dying?” I was flabbergasted. This was so insensitive and unprofessional only adding to my skepticism of the whole place.
I asked if we could reschedule and her immediate response is “why, are you unsatisfied?” Obviously I was, but I was so uncomfortable I just wanted to end this conversation as soon as possible. But it felt like she was pressing me to stay on the call longer even with her lack of intellect. It all was just so incredibly strange and very disappointing considering this is supposed to be a place that helps people during hardships. I’ve tried reaching out to the business to tell them about my experience with Diane and possibly schedule with someone else but I’ve received no response back.

Tried to go for therapy for my tween. It was the most unwelcoming environment and the therapist (Diane) definitely should have retired a decade ago, she couldn't even hear what we were saying and she was incredibly rude. Left within 5 minutes.

They were very helpful. Most places have a long or inaccessible waiting list for mental healthcare. They were able to intake me within about 2 weeks compared to the 6 months to a year of private practices.
I followed through with my appointments and they really did help me out, informing me of resources available and practitioners that took notes for providing personalized care.
I had legitimately good experiences with all staff I interacted with while being a patient there.

This was my second time receiving treatment at Hazelden, and I truly felt a deeper sense of connection and growth this time (quality of service improved since last time ) This time, working with my counselor “nas” made a big difference in my experience. He showed great understanding, professionalism, and sensitivity while addressing my addiction challenges. His approach was thoughtful and respectful, and I always felt safe and heard during our sessions. Really loved the mental health part and mental health professionals!! I’ve learned so much about myself, and I’m proud to say I’m now two months sober.

Couldn't have chose a better place to go for help with my substance abuse disorder, not only that but I got to learn a lot about my culture. My friend is on police record of being battered and assaulted by another resident of the house. My friend was kicked out instead of the perpetrator who is still allowed to stay there.
Whomever is in charge of the facility should be ashamed that they cannot protect ANY of their residents at the house because they cannot uphold simple societal standards of safe group living.
I am truly sorry for the women unfortunate enough to be under their "care." Regardless of rules broken that lead up to the crime (transferring an inconsiderate resident's laundry after hours of taking up the machine with clothes just sitting in there), the violent criminal should not be rewarded for her crimes. No one is safe at the Grand Rapids Hope House.

I had previously written a 3 star review due to a negative experience at a general check-up appointment. I am increasing it to 5 stars due to an emergency situation that was responded to wonderfully.
I came into the emergency room after 36 hours of labor elsewhere when my baby became stuck. The team of nurses took care of me and my baby so well. Dr Paula went over all my options with me and when we decided on a c-section, she performed it right away. Her and the nurses went above and beyond to make me feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommend Dr Paula. I've had very negative experiences with doctors and hospitals in the past, but she's restored my faith and comfort!

I was hoping to start going here for my appointments since I moved to Appleton, but I will still be traveling to my former hospital in Oshkosh. The phone operators/admin here don't seem to know what they need to and I ended up getting scheduled with a different type of doctor than what I asked for and for a completely different type of appointment, even after clarifying. The nurse and I had a laugh when we realized what had happened on the day of said appointment.
It also took an extremely long time to get my insurance information taken over the phone. It took repeating the same information multiple times and an hour phone call until they could schedule me.
The nurses were great though! Very kind and transparent. I see many people had positive experiences which is great.
I could've just gotten some people having busy days which it totally okay! I personally feel more comfortable continuing to go to my former hospital where they seem to be more reliable.

Had an MRI on Sunday 10/26/25. Everyone was professional and caring!! This is NOT an easy test—-but the tech helped a lot ! I think her name was Katie!! Thanks for caring and being part of St. E’s!!!
