I entered Right Choice about a year ago, seeking treatment for compulsive gambling - initial contact was with a therapist connected via 1-800 GAMBLER, who was affiliated directly with the treatment center. Within our first two calls, she referred me to RC - intake was seamless and worry-free, and I was welcomed into a group session that same day, in fact right after my paperwork had been completed.
I was - and remain - immensely impressed with their quality of care and service. Although my experience was intensive out patient, my treatment protocols were extremely comprehensive. Almost immediately, I was assigned a personal counselor, had secured a therapist, psychiatric services, and was immersed in a safe and motivating group therapy environment. Additional sessions were always available, free of charge for the asking (I took full advantage of more than a few), input from other/ancillary counselors was also extremely helpful. I actually looked forward to ending my day at group, and counselors always led engaging conversations and exchanges. As each week passed, I could feel myself improving, the fog lifting, hope returning...
The approach to my treatment was highly professional and collaborative, as the staff collectively managed my case with clarity, respect, and transparency. I was most impressed by their emphasis on development of a plan of action upon leaving RC, and the critical importance of laying the groundwork early to ease the transition into the "real world" of recovery. I also respected the team's ability to challenge and push my emotional boundaries, and their emphasis on personal responsibility, accountability, and ownership. At the same time, I was highly encouraged to nurture my own self-respect, self-forgiveness, and sense of worth. Not an easy duality to manage - but they very successfully guided me though these very conflicted feelings.
I am beyond thankful for my experience at Right Choice - I might advocate for a name change to "Right Start". I cannot think of a better place to begin the journey into joyful recovery. As I received my one-year coin at my Saturday GA meeting this week, I paused to look back in gratitude that I had only come this far thanks to the love, care, and compassion I received from the entire staff at the time I most desperately needed it. Thank you!
